Great location, comfortable and clean home, accessible to many of the area attractions.

Nicely designed home just outside Burnsville, a neat little town we really liked a lot. We easily reached Grandfather Mountain and Boone, Linville Gorge, Cherokee and Ashville. Loved the area. Great local fishing and a quiet property. Wished we could stay longer.

House Needs Some Attention

  • 2 of 5

This review needs to be The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Good:

*The home is spacious and the kitchen has a nice big peninsula.

*The beds are good.

*The baths are nice.

*Having a downstairs bathroom was handy; saved climbing stairs.

The Bad:

*The AC is window units. The one downstairs works fairly well. The

upstairs units do not provide cold air. They are very tiny units. The

one in the second bedroom seemed broken. The problem was that

there was only one window in that bedroom, and the unit was in it,

so there was no way to get air circulation. Our family member left

early because she was exhausted from no sleep. We were there in

mid-July and the temperatures were warm. When notified, the rental

agent did not offer to have someone look at it.

*All of the kitchen cabinets are full. We had to put two weeks of groceries

on the countertops. The owners had one large cabinet for

themselves. They need to clear it our for their guests.

*The TV situation was difficult for us. There is no TV in the second

bedroom -disappointed our family member. TV in the master

bedroom is not connected to the satellite dish. We were only able

to get local channels. We had a great deal of difficulty getting the

downstairs TV to operate. It took two days to get a response from the

rental agent.

*The stairway to the river below is still not repaired, despite the fact that

this has been mentioned in previous reviews. It is also mentioned as a

feature in the ads. It makes accessing the river a lot more difficult.

*The bedside light in the second bedroom was inadequate. The shade

was broken and there was too little light. We ended up taking a floor

lamp up from downstairs.

*There was only one bedside table in the king master bedroom. So there

was no place for one person to put eyeglasses, book or reading device,

Yeti cup, etc. There was also no light on that side of bed. If that person

wants to stay up and read a book, the overhead light has to be left on

which can keep the other person awake.

*There are no end tables in the living area to put a glass or a book on.

The Ugly:

*The porch furniture was filthy. We tried to clean it enough to use it.

Rental agent blamed the rain, but it had not been really cleaned

in a long time. Ants completely covered the cushioned furniture.

*The second bedroom had lots of moths when light are turned on.

Owner's Response: The Chicken Coop is a beautiful clean cabin located just five miles from Burnsville NC. I waited to respond to the review after visiting the cabin. After walking through the cabin and noticing a few things and taking notes I came to the conclusion that you cannot please everyone. Things addressed. New lamp in guest bedroom. All deck furniture pressure washed and ready to go. needless to say the deck is not covered. Maintenance has been informed to clean off deck furniture with each new arrival. However if a storm blows through before guest arrive it is possible that leaves may end up on the deck furniture. The A/C units work fine. No problem there. The TV's are new and work fine. (operator makes a difference) Our response time is always within a few hours or less. The kitchen is lovely with plenty of room for guest items. No sign of ants as the cabin is treated quarterly. The steps going below the cabin have had a cautious sign for years now because the tress cover the steps causing them to be a bit slippery. A VERY NICE CABIN AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT! The fire-pit is perfect for evening conversation and the trees line the deck for perfect privacy. THE INTERNET IS 100% PERFECT TO WORK OR STREAM MOVIES. The beds are so comfortable and the cabin is very clean.

Cute & comfy! Everything we needed was there!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Chicken Coop. We enjoyed the peaceful location and the sound of the river below. Visiting shops & restaurants in Burnsville was fun, everyone was so friendly. Sadly the steps down to the river were broken & dangerous so we walked down the steep driveway to get to the river. Still had a great time though!

Private yet close to town. Nice view of the river

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stay at this cabin in mid June and enjoyed the private deck and the awesome little fire-pit view of the Cane river.. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. Close to many attractions. I would definitely recommended to family and friends.
