Different experience

The cottage looked like a nice rustic Maine cottage which brought back good memories. My family has rented several cottages on Belgrade Lakes in the past. Yet for over $200 a night this camp left us with a lot of sleepless nights as the beds definitely needed to be updated...Truly back aching, even the teenagers complained. Sadly and Unfortunately the towels smelled like a wet dog, extremely rough like they were hung out to dry not laundered in a washing machine and dryer for sure!! Thankfully I had brought beach towels. The dresser drawers were filthy; sawdust and dead bugs abound! Needless to say I had to keep my clothing in my suitcase for nine days! The real bummer was the Train which travels by the camp three times nightly, so if you fall asleep, be ready to be woken up at 2:45 AM 5:45 AM 12 12:30 PM and more by the train horns as well as the loud train tracks for more than 30 minutes.

We have a beautiful boat we brought, which must be docked at the public boat landing which was not too far but unfortunately the dock at the cottage was missing a barrel so my 6 foot guys had to be careful where they stood because water pours over and they lost their footing a bit, glad my family is athletic! The dock also needs a bumper as our gorgeous boat would've been scraped all to hell if my husband didn't put an old tube between the dock and our boat every night-very time consuming! We were supposed to be on vacation, not working. It made my yoga in the dock an extra cardio at times. For the price, this cottage definitely needs some improvements. Funny, the realtor expected everybody who entered the cottage to sign a contract...for what, kind of crazy! We did make the best of this as the lake is clean and not overpopulated on a positive note! I was grateful to be able to be on the water.

This lake house was exactly what we were looking for. A quiet area and easy fishing for a week. The house is exactly as described and was perfect for two couples. We had an issue with the dock that was resolved by property manager and the owners were very nice and sent their apologies as well. Overall a very nice rental.

A nice place to get away from it all... With you dog!

  • 4 of 5

Pros: allows dogs! / bigger than it looks! / clean, open, and spacious floor plan for kitchen/dining & living rooms / 2 good size bedrooms w/ 1 full bed each (queen size would better support sleeping 2/bed) / nice, wide, walk up stairs to loft housing 4 twin beds (but only two twin sheet sets supplied / ample screened/glassed in porch ( but diminished air flow due to Windows blocking ½ the breeze) / water front deck and dock / simple fire pit for nightly flames...

Cons: no internet access! 😩 / Daily occurrence of ants on porch (there seems to be attempts made to deal with the problem) / poor/broken shower head needing replacement

Considerations for renters (not an issue/problem with my experience/needs): steep decline to waterfront / comfortably sleeps 6 with room for 9 if sleeping 2/full bed and the large comfy couch! 😉

Things to do: sleep in late due to the beautiful trees surrounding you (or you'd better set your alarm!) / take a boat ride into Winthrop, stroll the streets, and get some delicious ice cream! / Readfield Market is a short car ride for your needs / listen to the serenading of the crazy loons / get out and explore the lake - look for the osprey and eagle nests / or do nothing at all. 😉

Peaceful Maranacook Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Quiet, clean and private. These are really the three items that we seek when on vacation and you get all this and more at this cabin on Maranacook. Very sturdy and peaceful deck at the waters edge is a lovely bonus.
