Why Jeanne McGee chose Gulf Coast

We wanted to be able to provide folks with access to great fishing off the ICW, but also be able to enjoy the pleasures of the beach. This retreat can be your haven from everyday worries.

What makes this studio unique

Unique to Sargent, this property allows you to enjoy the pleasures of a weekend getaway, or a week of relaxation in a cozy atmosphere. We wanted to provide our visitors with the opportunity to have several activities around the property--pier, kayak, hot tub, outdoor kitchen and plenty of benches. This is not a property for a huge crowd, but a comfortable, uncomplicated retreat for the discriminating.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just finished a full weeks' stay at Our Blue Have (our second time to stay there) and found the place perfect for our needs on this trip. As before, the place was very clean and had everything we needed. While the studio is not very large, it really did not matter since we spent most of our time outside. It is also made to feel much larger by the screened in porch. The convenient location on the intracoastal and proximity to the beach are why we chose this place. For us, the best feature was the dock. It is partially covered, but still plenty of room for casting. We caught fish every night with the help of the underwater lights and the overhead spotlights. We caught flounder, reds, speckled trout, gulf trout, and sand trout (along with a few catfish). October is a great month in Sargent with very moderate temps and this place is perfectly suited for that time of year. The owners keep the place in great condition and nothing looks or feels neglected or run-down. We will definitely come again and don't hesitate to recommend this to others.

Fun vacation for a family

  • 5 of 5

Fun place for outdoor activities. We were forced to be off-line because there was no wi-fi and spotty phone reception (T-Mobile), which to me is the reason for a vacation. Our children (2 preteens, 1 toddler) were grumpy at first but learned to adjust. It was nice to see the family not distracted by computer, ipad, or phone.

THE GOOD: This is a cozy, clean, and modern place. Almost everything we need was provided. The owner was nice to keep in touch with us when needed. The outside grill and eating area were great for meals. The covered fishing pier was the main attraction for our family. We spent most of our time on the pier crabbing and fishing. The pier is spacious, clean, has cleaning table, sink, and water hoses at the right place -- nice touch! We brought our own open panel crab traps and caught tons of crabs. We saw a lot of fish swimming and feeding under the lights, but did not catch any on the first few nights with dead shrimp. We finally caught some trouts and red fish on the last night after figuring out what they want (tip: pay attention to what they are feeding on, and use bait closely resemble to what they are feasting.) The beach was easy to get to and OK to walk around. The sand and water were kind of muddy but we knew this is typical in this area.

THE BAD: This place is a little tight for a family of 5. Watch your feet when the murphy bed is down. There is not much walking room to the kitchen and the bed corner is sharp. We have scars to prove it. The mattress for the pull out couch is not comfortable to sleep on. You can feel the metal frame when laying down.

NO COMMENT: It was too hot to use the hot tub. The kayak was heavy and tough to get out so we did not bother with it.

OVER ALL: We will come back. Would recommend this place to friends/relatives.

Cute and Comfy little place on the intercoastal

  • 5 of 5

My sister and her son stayed there over July 4th. Great little place if you don't mind sleeping all in the same room. The indoor and outdoor kitchen were nice and nicely equipped. Large screen TV which my nephew and kids enjoyed when not out on the water. The outdoor shower was a nice touch and the apartment is quite roomy and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the dock and utilizing our jetski as they have a lift. The intercoastal on that side of the swing bridge is quiet and uncrowded. The water in front of the dock is quite shallow with lots of oyster beds so wear water shoes. My nephew tried fishing but got caught up on a pole sticking out of the water, probably marking the waterline. Overall, would definitely rent the place again. Was fortunate to meet the owner when we went to check in and she is lovely and accommodating. We grilled burgers on the outdoor grill and ate in their outdoor bar area. My sister enjoyed the jacuzzi tub. Great time!!

Nice set up

  • 5 of 5

Clean facilities with everything you would need (except there was no shower soap). We took the kayak out in the ICW and that was fun. We also caught a ton of crabs and had a great crab boil that night (bring your own pot). The only downside was that with it being a holiday weekend and neighbors feet away on either side, it was more crowded than I preferred. I'm sure it usually is much more quiet. The owner was available during the stay for questions/concerns. I'd recommend to other wanting a relaxing coastal vacation with fishing and beach activities.

Perfect little getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The accommodations were very nice, and it shows that the owner puts time and energy to keep it nice and up-to-date. My wife was very pleased with the décor and availability of everything you would need (linens, utensils, appliances, etc.). The kids enjoyed being able to walk to the beach and also the fact that the hot tub was right out the door on the patio area. I went for fishing, and even though I did not catch a big one, or a tagged redfish, the water was fun to be around, and the surf was fun to fish in. **There still may have been too much freshwater from the storms in April-May for the ICW to have good fish. Also, there may be debris from the storms being pushed down the ICW, as I tried fishing the bottom, and got hung up every single time, and every place I threw my line. If you want to do a crab boil, there were plenty of them around.**
