El Castillo is a historical town that was funded as a bastion to defend Granada from pirates coming from Caribbean sea. During the Gold fever period El Castillo served as a stop point for boats transporting thousands to California. Indio Maiz Biological Reserve is the second largest reserve in Nicaragua, containing a rich biodiversity and species as pumas, jaguars, howler and spider monkeys, armadillos or manatees. Casa del Canal belongs to a 110 Acre private reserve located between El Castillo and Indio Maiz Biological Reserve and with great views above the San Juan river.
Casa del Canal features its own boat, kayak and dock accessing the river. The house has 4 private Bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 terraces one on each level. Separate kitchen. Wide front river area. Tropical forest extension of Indio Maiz Biological Reserve is within walking distance.
Relax on the terrace, canoe towards the Bartola river, walk through the primary forest behind the Casa and watch howler and spider monkeys. We offer free transportation from the Casa del Canal to Indio Maiz Biological Reserve!
We are relatively new in VRBO! we are proud and happy Casa del Canal was featured on the list of awe-inspiring places to stay in Central America by "The Shooting Star" travel blog!
I have been based in Nicaragua for almost 5 years and up and down connected to the river San Juan, El Castillo and Indio Maiz Biological Reserve. I love El Castillo and its people and hope that our guests will enjoy the calmness and fabulous history of the San Juan.
