The cottage had everything we needed, and the 2 kayaks were a wonderful bonus!
A previous reviewer mentioned tree stumps by the dock - we didn't have any problems with it - greatly improved our kayak parking skills and we enjoyed the ducks & herons that came to sunbathe on it :)
The cabin is in a great location - close enough to supplies if needed, but secluded enough to relax - highly recommended!
Ive been to the river at the least, 5 times a year for the last 4 years and stayed in multiple places, so when my boyfriend and I wanted to leave San Francisco for a calm birthday weekend, I had a list of requirements.
I spent days looking for the right house to rent.
I wanted the house to look like a cabin and be right on the river, with a private dock, and hot-tub.
I wanted an extra room incase my two friends decided to visit...
The days and days i spent looking for the perfect place, paid off.
From the moment i walked in, the view blew me away, all the windows, the glass cabinets in the kitchen.
there were beautiful windows opening to the deck i could open while I made our meals.
the extra room had a private entrance the only reason i wouldn't have stayed in the room was, i would have to step outside during the night and into the main house to use the bathroom. otherwise the extra room had a fun yet private treehouse feel.
the bathroom was beautiful!
There are countless things I could say about this place.
I loved it! I won't be searching for another house on the river again, Ive found the perfect place!
We rented the Cabernet Cabin for a week in June. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin and had a wonderful vacation. A few things that we wish we would have known prior to booking though. I'll break it down.
My biggest disappointment. The dock. It is blocked by 2 large trees, on their sides and wedged into the ground right in front of the doc. No jumping off to swim, and kayaks need to be carefully maneuvered to take out. Inner tubes were difficult because I had to push myself over the trees and often got stuck on them. I called to ask if they could be removed. A handyman came out and said "oh those trees have been there for years". I feel
as though this really should be disclosed when renting a waterfront property, as it really inhibits the ability to use the doc easily.
Pretty clean, but not 'let your toddler crawl on the floor' clean. Just fine with us, we had a teen and a dog.
Cleaning crew leaves toilet paper and paper towels, but not enough for a weeks worth of three people.
The bed in the master room deeply sags in the center. Drink enough wine and you should sleep like a baby.
Jacuzzi was slimy from previous guest, but the maintenance man came and drained it, cleaned it, and refilled.
Biggest compliments. Location! 3 minute drive to town, across the river from stumpton brewery, and a great neighborhood to walk the dog!
Plenty of pots, pans, plates for meals, with a fantastic dishwasher for easy clean up!
Laundry room with detergent which really came in handy!
Beautiful deck with BBQ that we used almost every night.
Complimentary bottle of wine which we indulged the first night.
Kayaks were great, would have been nice to have had one double kayak, but no biggie.
We came for two nights to get away from the city. The cabin was perfect...clean, comfortable, and smartly laid out for a vacation home. No complaints. Can't wait to return.
When I rented the place, I was worried it was too "fancy." I got that opinion from the pictures. In fact, the Cabernet Cottage is delightfully rustic. True, my wife appreciated the amenities, like a dish washer, that were not available in our usual camping situation, but a lot of the cabin is crude wood and... a cabin.
Our Boxweiller truly appreciated it was dog friendly. We left her a few times with the dog sitter service recommended by the rental service, Elizabeth did a superior job with the dog, leaving me to wonder if the dog will run away from home, back to the Russian River, to find her.
We were there during "dock season." As such, my family fully availed themselves of the dock and kayaks. We also brought a raft capable of handling an 80 pound dog. The Stumptown Brewery was a short row from the cabin and accommodated dogs.
One thing that is not obvious from the pictures. There is a private stairway to the second bedroom. It has a small deck that goes into the laundry room... and bathroom. My kids thoroughly enjoyed that!
Overall, if I had to pick one thing selling this property, it would be the deep bathtub. Or maybe the spectacular view. Or the coziness.
Would I rent again? You bet!
