About the property

3 bdrm, 2 1/2 bath, sleeps 7, hot tub, all new furnishings, on the bus route

Walk to the lift (one block) or simply stand at the top of the driveway with your skis to catch the free shuttle to the base area. Be on the first chair on a powder day! Flying in? No need to rent a car. Just take the bus from the airport to the house, then the free shuttle to the base area or out to dinner in town.

From the hand carved front door to the stained glass interior doors, this property is truly a work of art. The log ridge beam weighs over 5,000 pounds, and the joints were hand cut with a chainsaw, 30 feet off the ground! The open floor plan of the living, dining and kitchen areas are designed around a river rock fireplace. The great room is a two story, open space with a giant picture window that frames Mt. Crested Butte. It has a wood burning fireplace, and deck facing Mt. Crested Butte.

The gourmet kitchen features unfitted cabinets, a huge butcher block island with a prep sink, pot rack, and bar stool seating, all handmade. There are granite counter tops, a gas cook top with six burners surrounded by river rock, a farm sink, and a dining room table that seats 6, with two folding chairs available for additional seating. A small deck right off the kitchen has a convenient BBQ grill.

Newly added to the property is a deck and hot tub that seats 6 with a view of Mt. Crested Butte.

There is a half bath on the main floor, and a laundry room with brand new LG large capacity washer and dryer.

The master bedroom is very private on the top floor. There is a skylight with a view of Mt Crested Butte and the stars. Brand new queen bed, down comforter, and linens, and an intimate seating area for relaxing and reading, or watching TV. The master bath has a shower and separate claw foot tub, also with a skylight over the tub. The unfitted vanity cabinet has a granite top and a lighted makeup mirror.

The downstairs bedroom is fitted with a queen mattress, down comforter and new bedding. There is a dresser and large mirror, television, and side table, all newly purchased.

The bunk room has a new twin over double bed, new mattresses, down comforters and bedding. There is a dresser and TV in this room as well.

The downstairs bath has a tub and granite shower, unfitted vanity cabinet with granite top.

The interior was repainted in June, 2014, with all new furniture, bedding and linens. The kitchen equipment is also brand new, with service for 16.

This is a dedicated vacation rental (the owners don't move out so you can use their home for a few days). It is lightly decorated so you have room to spread out.

The main areas all have slate floors. The bedrooms are carpeted, and there is infloor heat throughout the house.

There is access to the garage for ski or bike storage and maintenance, and a brand new blacktop driveway.

Great Place, Great Area

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Mountain House in Crested Butte. We had never been to this area before and found summertime in Crested Butte incredible. The house itself fit the setting perfectly. The owner, Gilbert, is a truly talented finish carpenter and made all of the cabinets and doors by hand. With three different levels, there was enough privacy for all. The house was clean and well furnished. The hot tub was great after a long day of hiking and mountain biking. The location is very convenient. We had only one issue with a utility problem and the owner immediately resolved it. In summary, we hope to explore Crested Butte again and if we do, we will try to stay here.

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

It was a good thing my wife and I decided on staying at the Mt. House for our honeymoon. We were ill for our entire week stay but the place was was so warm and inviting. We will definitely consider taking another shot at staying at the Mt. House when we come back to CB.

Stunning

  • 5 of 5

Very Well done! Beautiful property with stunning views of the mountains, just as the pictures showed that Gilbert sent before we arrived. The mountain house was laid out very well. Warm and cozy. Everything was super clean and organized. I am an avid cook and I loved the kitchen. It was stocked with everything we needed, and we brought some of our own cooking tools (sous vide cooker), as well as spices. The bedrooms were cute and the bedding incredibly comfortable. The bathrooms were luxurious, especially the master suite bathroom. The living area with fireplace was the perfect place to hang out after spending the day on the Mountain. The ski resort was a very short drive down the hill, definitely walkable. Downtown Crested Butte is a must see - simply charming. Great shopping, and many restaurants to chose from. I would love to experience Mt Crested Butte in the spring/summer.

Amazing property, beautifully furnished!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in numerous VRBO homes and we currently rank this home at the top of our list. The furnishings are so well thought thru-- kitchen had everything down to the pizza cutter !! The private hot tub was a wonderful perk and from the hot tub and the family room we could watch the torch parade and fireworks on New Years Eve. Buses stopped at the entrance to our drive and the walk to the slopes is not bad when walking downhill. We always caught a bus on the uphill trek. The owner built this home himself including all the cabinets and the dining table. The garage is heated and stacked with cut wood. Gilbert was a phone call away and such a pleasure. We hope to return!!

Close to Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Last year we stayed in a terrific property in Breckenridge and thought we'd seen the best there was. That was, until we stayed at Gilbert Frayer's place at Mt. Crested Butte!! Gilbert's mountain house is extraordinary in every way. The high-end finishing touches on this house make it a true luxurious get away and create a sense of relaxation hard to recreate anywhere else. From the wood fireplace to the tremendously clean hot tub, there are few aspects of this retreat in the mountains that haven't been accounted for. The completely outfitted kitchen makes eat-in meals a cinch and the outstanding TV-entertainment offer family movie nights while warming by the fire. Wherever you are in the house, there is a window to scenery which seems to add to the entire experience. Frankly, the hardest part about staying at this house is deciding to go skiing. Fortunately, the shuttle stops at the end of the driveway, so it's not too difficult once you get up the energy to leave the confines of this phenomenal property. Finally, working with Gilbert could not have been easier, and he was accommodating in every way. We're counting the days until we can stay here, again!
