About Joyce Klees

I fell in love with the north shore when I moved here in my twenties. The landscape, definitely harsh at times, with it's seasonal drama and beauty continues to grip me and hold me in awe. I love to travel, but I continue to call this place home.

Presently my work is as an RN at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic in Grand Marais. Hopefully you will not need to visit here, but if you do you will realize why we feel so lucky to have this Community Health Clinic as our health care facility. I am also known for my landscape work and ceramic art. A work of note is the Angry Trout Bathroom. Enjoy a yummy meal and then take a side trip to the bathroom to check out my work.

I also have an adventurous side and have put in many miles on the trails and waterways of this area as well as elsewhere.

Joyce Klees purchased this house in 2012

Very clean!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place. It is one of the cleanest I have stayed in. Very private. Great deck. We enjoyed our stay very much. We had a problem with one of the utilities while we stayed and the owner came out right away to check on it and then had it fixed as soon as she could. We certainly understand that things can happen. It is all in how you handle the situation and she handled it very well and was accommodating. Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful home.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful time. Very relaxing setting with all the amenities. The interior decoration promotes a sense of peace and harmony that is great to come home to after a busy day picking stones by the lake. My three kids were the first inside the house and their initial reaction was "Dad, this house is awesome!" Pretty good feeling to hear that from a nine year old. Two of my kids (9yo twins) are autistic and we were extremely comfortable staying in the house and on the property. Everyone is sad to leave, but we will definetly return for future vacations.

Best Stay in Grand Marais

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at our cabin ( really a house) just outside Grand Marais. The accommodations were spaciousness and spotless. Everything we needed was provided, even wildlife ( deer,a fawn, wild turkeys, and a horse); our grandson was in seventh heaven. We have stayed in three different places and this was the best!

Owner's Response: Kathy, so glad you and your family had a "fantastic stay". It made me smile to think of your grandson being so thrilled with his time at my place and with his grandparents. What a nice treat to see the doe and fawn! Thank you, Joyce

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Over the years we have stayed at various places in the Grand Marais area and this is our favorite. This was our second year to stay here and we hope to repeat in the future. The location is close enough to the town for our classes at North House, but just far enough away that you feel like you're in the wilderness. The sounds of frogs and whippoorwills lulled us to sleep each evening. The house is immaculate and perfectly sized for the needs of our family of 3.

Owner's Response: James, Stacy, & Sabrina, I love that you enjoy my place, that the location works so well for you, and that you want to stay again. You are welcome back, for sure! I so enjoy the Spring sounds coming from the pond and the meadow and glad that you did too. It is also great that you have become part of the North House community. What an excellent way to spend time on the North Shore. Best to you all, Joyce

North Woods Property home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

When we opened the front door I remember saying "this is perfect, what a beautiful place!" The open floor plan on the main floor left lots of room to move around and Joyce made up an extra sleeping area up stairs for my son to have privacy. Plenty of room for six. The abundance of windows on the main floor let in lots of light and allowed us to bird watch, which was a treat as there were always birds at the feeders on the deck. We brought our own food to cook of course and the cupboards were stalked with everything we needed to cook with more pots and pans etc. Then we needed. We loved looking at all the art and the little library had some interesting books...I enjoyed the shoe book 😉򒐠Such a relaxing private space with all the amenities of home about 15 minutes to get to the ski hill and ten to Grand Marais which was exactly where we wanted to be! Definately reccomend staying here if you are in the area...We would certainly book again. Although we never actually met Joyce we would have liked to, so we could thank her for a most perfect get away!

Owner's Response: Shelley, I am so glad that you and your family had such a great family vacation and that you enjoyed my place. It made me smile knowing that you right away felt like this was the perfect place for your time together and that you enjoyed the little things that it had to offer: the original art, the library, including the shoe book : ), the birds, and the light that makes the house so cozy. I do hope you can come back sometime. Thank you for your rave review and for leaving my place so clean. It was a joy to have you stay!

Peaceful Vacation Home Base

  • 5 of 5

This home is a great place to stay while exploring Grand Marais and the surrounding area. While being off the beaten path, it was easy to find and the house itself is very cute and comfortable. The large windows let in plenty of light and the view was beautiful. We love the North Shore and appreciated having such a lovely place to come back to after long days of running around.
