Reviewer Comments:

We had a wonderful week in this property. We take an annual family vacation each year and the majority of the group thought this was our best vacation. I would recommend this property and the management company. For those that want to stay close to the house, there was plenty to do with the lake and the resort membership that comes with the house. For those that wanted to explore the area that was so much to do – Chimney Rock, Sliding Rock, hiking, rafting, and zip-lining. Some of the reviews I read indicate that the house was hot or not a well-stocked kitchen. We could make everything work in the kitchen and I would not complain but it doesn’t have the most up—to-date items. As for temperature, we took along a fan and needed to use it a few times in the kitchen when we had a lot of cooking happening. The fan cooled it quickly. But we never felt it was hot in other rooms of the house. I had some confusion on bed configurations prior to going. The rental company site stated one and the VRBO site stated another. This is what we found: upstairs has a king bedroom, the 2 connecting rooms are a queen and a double. All three rooms have a small love seat. One the main level the office sofa makes a double bed but was uncomfortable as all pull out seem to be so if you plan to use it, there is cushions in the media room closet that can be used to make it more comfortable. The media room also has a queen pull out sofa. Lower level has two rooms that are queen and one with twin beds that can be made up for a king. The twin bed room also has sofa that a child could use for sleeping. Cell phone service was non-existent for most of our party. Anyone with Verizon or AT&T could not use cell service at the house but generally at the dock it would work. Most turned off cellular and used Facetime to make telephone calls via Wi-Fi. The linens provided were plentiful. It was so nice to have more than we needed.

Exceptional Modern Home...With Some "Bugs"

  • 4 of 5

We rented this home for a small family wedding, about 20 family members. The home is so spacious, and the architecture was incredible! The furnishings were minimal and did not fit with the modern look of the home. There was also not enough outdoor furniture on the balconies, and what was there was incredibly dirty and unusable. The home could use a serious furniture update to complement the architecture! However, there was plenty of room for our family to stay, and the views were incredible! It is mentioned in the description, but be prepared to hike to the dock. LONG way down! No parking is available by the dock so you do have to walk to it. You can rent the boat and take it out on the water, which I highly recommend. Beautiful lake and views! The kitchen is huge and able to accommodate a serious cook. We hired a private chef, and she was able to cook a dinner for 20 people easily! There is nothing stocked other than some old pyrex and pots/pans, so be prepared to shop for everything from food to spices to roasting pans.

Some issues did arise during our stay. There was a broken picture frame hanging on the wall near the entrance when we arrived. Also, the interior of the home was dirty and infested with stink bugs. We called the management company, and they said there is nothing they could do as "it's stink bug season and every home on the lake is infested." We had family staying just down the street, and their home was stink bug-free. They did give us a free night there for the stink bug issue, but a better pest control company might fix the problem. Hated finding stink bugs in our suitcases when we arrived home. There were many spider webs and both alive and dead bugs throughout the exterior and interior of the home. We also had a sink leaking water upstairs, which was fixed promptly. The management company was very nice and responsive, fixing most issues in a very timely manner. Just wish the home had more upkeep. It is a large and expensive home, and the upkeep might just be too much for the owners and the management company.

Overall, I would recommend this property for family reunions or get-togethers, as long as the management company fixes the bug issue! Was a huge disappointment to host our family there for a special weekend, only to have them find bugs crawling in their rooms. The property needs upkeep and a decor facelift, and then it would be PERFECT! The management company is what increased the star-rating for us. Very nice people!!

We stayed at Souveniers for 7 nights in September with 6 adults and 4 children ages 1-4. This is a great house for a large group or family: the common areas are spacious and there are also areas of the house where you can spread out to enjoy some quiet. The house has a lovely view of the lake. The outdoor areas are great - the only thing we would suggest adding is more outdoor seating. We used the outdoor kitchen several times. The decor is modern and clean and the beds were comfortable. The property seemed well maintained; the only complaint being that some of the bathrooms had a mildewy smell. The property manager was responsive when we had a little trouble with the air conditioner mid-stay. The indoor kitchen was large and fairly well stocked, although finding items within the drawers and cabinets was a bit of a challenge. We enjoyed visiting the beach and the pool within the resort and also enjoyed a couple of hikes nearby. We would return to this property again and would recommend it for a large family or group traveling together.

Reviewer Comments:

This was an excellent property for our annual Family Reunion. We've stayed at many places which are listed as 6 bedroom, but when we arrive it seems as though at least 1 or 2 of the bedrooms are duds and we have to draw straws to determine who stays where. In this house every single bedroom was lovely with knock out views of the lake and a nice, modern en suite bathroom. The kitchen and dining room made for memorable group meals, even when additional guests joined us. Seating twenty around the big table was not a stretch. In addition, it was great having both a beautiful living room and a separate TV/game room that were both really great hang-outs. We enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor kitchen very much, but wished there were a few more camp chairs for group conversations on nice evenings. In sum, I would definitely recommend this property. In addition to the main house, the house has a covered dock right on the lake (after descending a pretty daunting set of stairs)where we spent most of our days--happily floating around on the nice water craft that the owners provided and on our rented pontoon boat. The owner/manager provided very good customer service and was quite responsive when we had an issue with the alarm system and one of the refrigerators. We didn't go out much because the house was so nice, but we did enjoy the Apple Valley Golf Course, Esmeralda Restaurant and Chimney Rock.

Map

Located in one of the most scenic places in America! If you want nothing but to sit and unwind from your hectic schedule to enjoy the sights and sounds of the area, this is the place for you. If you like adventure; we have great trails nearby (within 10 minutes) you can hike the NC State Park trails, rock climb, kayak the rapids of the Rocky Broad River, or mountain bike. If water is more your thing you won't tire of boating, swimming, paddle boarding, water skiing or fishing. If you like golf, we have two of the most beautiful courses around; one with wide fairways, the other, more narrow, but both fun and challenging for all skill levels. If you like to keep your work-out on a fast track while on vacation, then visit the fitness center, hike the trails, swim in one of the two pools. If you are a foodie; oh my, we have some terrific restaurants, cafes and bistros. Be sure and check our CAROLINA MOON COFFEE CAFE and UNIQUE FINDS in Lake Lure where you can have a great cup of coffee. Be sure and sit on the back deck where you can enjoy the views of the mountains and river as it empties into Lake Lure. Medina's Bistro in Chimney Rock is fabulous. La Strada's in Lake Lure has great pizza and Italian food. There are Mexican restaurants, Country Cooking and you can get really good BBQ at the Lake Lure Smokehouse. If you want to celebrate a special occasion, we recommend you call THE POINT OF VIEW or LARKINS and ask for a window table! If you like to browse quaint little shops and search for antiques, it doesn't get any better. Hendersonville and Asheville have some amazing antique shops and you can be there in about 45 minutes. Make it a day trip and visit the famous Biltmore House, Gardens and Winery or the Carl Sandburg house. Did you know that Asheville has been called 'Brew City USA” Local breweries and cafes are everywhere just west of us? If you enjoy wine, there are several local vineyards in our area. One of our favorites is BURNT SHIRT They have award winning wines and you don’t want to miss it. If you would like to spend some time growing in spirit, then take the time to visit the lakeside chapel or any number of good churches in our area and you will be welcomed with open arms! If you love it like we know you will, then visit Pinnacle Sothebys International Realty and let them help you find your own little piece of heaven.
