About the property

This is a perfect 'home base' from which to explore the Island of Hawaii.

We've updated this one-bedroom, two-bath condominium with new carpet and furniture throughout, including a beautifully-restored wicker bedroom set with a new king-sized mattress of advanced foam technology, guaranteed to keep you comfortable and cool all night long. We have added a new washer/dryer, dishwasher and microwave, all new smaller appliances, and the kitchen is outfitted with the utensils, dishes, flatware and glassware needed to prepare home-cooked meals. All you need to add are the makings. Dine at the kitchen/living room bar, or do like most do and eat at the 6-place table on the large lanai. Your unit also includes widescreen, flat panel HD television, cable, DVD player, wifi internet service and free phone service to all states and Canada.

After using the new washer and dryer, an ironing board and iron have been provided. There also is a hair dryer. The condo has its own parking space below in the basement garage. Kona Pacific has provided full-sized supermarket type grocery carts to be shared by guests and residents. They are located in the parking garage adjacent to each elevator door. This convenient service comes in handy for carrying luggage, groceries and beach paraphernalia.

We are especially proud of the large lanai. It spans the entire width of the condominium with access from the living room and the bedroom. This is the first choice for dining, or just kicking back and relaxing. The view is of natural tropical trees and plants and the myriad species of birds. A watchful eye might even spot a mongoose scurrying along the lava rock wall below.

About JIM OR BARBARA HOLLON

We are the Hollons -- Barb and Jim -- and our home is in Arizona. Although both of us are of retirement age, we're not ready to kick back and 'take it easy'. Both of us spend many hours a week pursuing artistic interests -- Jim is an artist, working mostly with oil paints. Barbara creates both fine and costume jewelry, most of it made of silver and semi-precious stones. Jim has been painting for years and focuses mainly on painting animals, landscapes and desert flora.

We have developed a keen interest in the islands. Since our first visit to The Big Island, we've thought about how we could be a part of it. It is an amazing place, a microcosm of ethnic diversity and all that goes with that, a splendid range of fruit, vegetable, dairy, meat production, and of fishing and seafood products. There are the fascinating variations in the climates of places just miles apart -- sometimes a snowcapped mountain -- a not-so-distant backdrop to people bathing and relaxing in the balmy sun by the pool or on the beach.

The idea of buying a condo struck us during our first stay at Kona Pacific. During that visit and one later, we searched the island for the perfect place. Kona Pacific was the standard by which we judged all prospects. Of the many we considered, none measured up to Kona Pacific.

What makes this condo unique

First, there is the location. Kona Pacific is close to Kailua Bay and Ali'i Drive with its inviting shops, restaurants, beaches and historical structures -- all within easy walking distance. Then there was the striking appeal of Kona Pacific Condominiums -- the beautifully maintained buildings and the tropical beauty of the pampered landscaped surrounding them. The unit we chose, has the conveniences of a home. We have taken steps to insure that our unit is up to the standards of Kona Pacific and is a great a place to relax. There is a breakfast bar inside, a six-place dining table on the lanai. (Frankly, we, as do most guests, prefer to have all of our meals on the lanai.) The condo also has five ceiling fans, including two on the lanai. The two air conditioning units are seldom used.

Cute as a button! Comfortable, stylish with everything you need.

I really loved "making house" in this condo! I was there by myself but it's also perfect for two people. The location is super convenient with an easy walk to restaurants and shops and close to the highway for longer trips. It's very comfortable as well as being beautifully appointed. It has everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and easy; linens including beach towels, washer/dryer, blow dryer, ironing board, fully loaded kitchen including a rice cooker! It's very quiet, I never heard any of the neighbors. The entire condo complex is very clean and quiet. Make sure you get a small car as the parking spot is tight but manageable. Barbara and Lani were both very nice and responsive. I will definitely stay here on my next trip to Kona!

Convenient to town, comfortable bed, great hosts. Would rent again!

The property is very conventient for everything this side of the island has to offer. We enjoyed accessibility to many attractions and restaurants and loved that we could walk nearly everywhere. We chose to visit beaches further away, but I'm sure there are some very close to the condo.

The bed is so comfortable. I think that's our best critique of the property itself. Some of the features of the condo are a bit dated, but they are all in great working condition. This home is well taken care of and offers everything you need for your vacation.

Lastly, Barbara and Lani were so responsive. We had an unfortunate situation with our rental car that left us in need of extended check out. Both of them were so lovely to deal with and we could not be more thankful for their kindness. We would definitely rent again.

Beautifully maintained, perfectly presented and right where the action is!

This condo was the perfect location for our 10 day visit to the Big Island. Easy to get to, close to shops and restaurants, and beautifully maintained - it was the perfect escape.

The hosts (Jim and Barbara) were endlessly patient – always happy to answer our persistent questions and concerns – they made organizing the holiday a breeze.

The condo itself is immaculate and having our own full kitchen meant we could drop past the KTA if we didn’t feel like going out. The starter kit provided by the hosts gave us a couple of days to work out what we needed in so far as cleaning products and the handy supply of left over sunscreen e.t.c. was a welcome surprise.

The bed was a dream and the lounge and lanai the perfect spots of kick back and relax. We even got to see some beautiful finches, geckos and mongooses exploring the lot opposite.

The complex was peacefully calm and we never heard from any of the neighbors – so this is definitely not a party house (perfect for us).

While I had some reservations about the nearby road noise, this wasn’t an issue – remember “highways” on the Big Island aren’t anything to worry about. In fact, we spent much of our time on the lanai and it never bothered us.

The best advice the hosts provide is to make sure you book a compact or small car. We did, but when we arrived they had “thoughtfully” upgraded us to a mid-size. With no smaller options available we had to take it. And I can assure you, the condo’s spot is a VERY tight fit for bigger cars. For anyone else stuck with a bigger car I’ve left a scratch repair kit in the cupboard!

Overall, this was the perfect spot to explore the island and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Kona. Also, check out Jim’s artwork on the walls. Trying to pronounce Humuhumunukunukuapuaa was a challenge!

Perfect 10 day vacation!

Wonderful stay at the Hollon's condo. The location is perfect for walking along the main area of Kailua-Kona. Very easy access to restraunts and shopping. Loved the open shower in the master bathroom. Would definitely recommend On the Rocks for happy hour, Lava Java, Humpy's and Ocean Side cafe.

I think the only thing I would have changed during this vacation was to stay 7 days at this condo and then rented a different place in Hilo for 3 or 4 days. The Big Island has a lot to offer and we did a lot of driving to see everything.

Great Value

Very large condo with a nice big deck that had a peek a boo view of the ocean. Cooler was a bonus do we could pack picnic lunch on the go. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Needed more household items such as laundry/dish soap, better knives and cutting board for kitchen and trash bags. If it wasn't for that, 5 stars!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review. As to the "household items", vacation renters always receive a small starter kit as stated in the information you received from me. This small kit includes hand soap, dishwasher soap, laundry soap and kitchen hand dishwashing soap and trash bags. These are provided for your convenience to get you by until you've had a chance to do your own shopping. Most of the knives have serrated edges and shouldn't be sharpened. There is a knife sharpener in the drawer to sharpen the paring knives. We only use glass cutting boards for sanitary reasons. Again thank you for the nice comments. We hope you'll come again. Beautiful stay in Kona !!

The property is very clean,well maintained and in a great location.An easy walk to restaurants and shopping.And just a block to the ocean. My wife and I loved staying here and would love to come back again !!
