About the property

Architect Designed, Open Floorplan Home On Residential East Side of Lake George

Only THREE weeks remain available this summer.

Summer Rentals

The 2018 high season for our home is June 16 - September 8. The weekly rental rate for those weeks is $6,750. Rentals are from Saturday to Saturday only.

Please note that the 2019 weekly rate will be $7,000.

Our Home's Story

Inspired by the original 1910 home that stood on this property, French Mountain Cove is a family retreat with the charm and architecture of an older cabin, but the comfort of a new home. Distanced from the crowds, but close to the best activities, our home has always been a home base for an active vacation or the ultimate destination for a relaxing one. Not a “rental property,” this is our family home shared with parents, siblings and guests. It is only listed for rent during the few weeks each summer that we are unable to use it.

This quiet home in a protected cove was rebuilt in 2013 to serve as the gathering spot for our extended family. The original 1910 camp has been in our family since 1944 and was the site of many memorable summer vacations. The new four-season building sits on the exact footprint of the original home, and now affords us the opportunity to gather as a family year-round.

Located on the eastern shore, our home sits on a quiet and peaceful spot, but is a quick drive or boat ride to the active visitor spots of Lake George Village and Bolton Landing. With plenty of space on multiple levels, it is a home built for our family and suited to extended families (grandparents, adult children and grandchildren) spending time together for a week in the summer. Built for family vacations, the home cannot accommodate more than 6 adults.

The home’s main level has been designed with an open floor plan to allow for an amazing panoramic view from anywhere on the main level. The dining area is anchored with an Amish reclaimed barnwood table with seating for eight. The center seating area has an antique bamboo seating group purchased in the 1940’s and sets the tone of casual elegance throughout this floor; it is perfect for coffee in the morning, afternoon reading, or cocktails in the evening while watching the sunset. The northern third of the main floor holds more casual furniture, a wall mounted television and a gas fireplace – all great for relaxing at the end of the day.

The lake level of this home is an extension of the property’s fantastic 18’x50’ lakeside flagstone patio. The 610 sf room contains comfortable furniture and a large entertainment television and a summer kitchen just off the grill area. The lake level allows for guests to be at the water’s edge all day without ever leaving the conveniences of the house.

The top floor of the home has four bedrooms and two fully-outfitted ¾ baths. The master bedroom and sleeping porch each have a queen bed, a third bedroom has a twin bed with trundle and the fourth bedroom has bunk twin beds with an additional trundle. The separate guest cabin boasts a small porch of its own, and has a full bed, full bath, and small bar sink/apartment refrigerator.

Rental Information

Our home is only available for a few select rental weeks each summer. It is a family home, so other than those few weeks the house is occupied.

Summer 2018

The 2018 high rental season for this property is June 16 – September 8. During this period, the home is only available for rent from Saturday (check in at 3pm) to Saturday (check out at 10am). Please note that there is always a seven night minimum stay requirement for renting French Mountain Cove. We cannot rent for long weekends or short holiday stays.

About Colleen Kriz

Growing up in Albany, NY, this property was our vacation home. Summers here started on the last day of school in June and ended right before we headed back to classes in September. The property is used by family throughout the year and is only available for a few weeks each summer when we have commitments out of town.

Colleen Kriz purchased this house in 1944

What makes this house unique

Completed in 2013, this four-season home has been completely re-built by the same family that has owned the property since 1944. Designed by a local architect to honor the original 1910 home, this house combines craftsman architectural and design details with modern conveniences. The four bedroom home, boathouse and guest cabin sit directly on 160 feet of lakefront on the quiet, residential East side of Lake George.

Each unique part of this new home was designed around how three generations of our family have lived here for the past 70 years. From the relaxing, residential atmosphere of the Eastern Side of Lake George to the stunning sunsets it affords, this property has always offered us a place to go to enjoy the company of friends and family.

Beautiful Home on Lake George

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nice. It was clean, but there was a huge ant problem while we were there. We did notify owners and an exterminator was sent the next day. The house is in a great location, away from the tourist areas but very easy to get to all local activities. There is no walk in access to the lake, making it difficult for our older guests to get in the water. Overall, it was a very relaxing, fun week in a great location.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a fun and relaxing week vacationing in our home! Thank you for letting us know about the ants, our exterminators are happy to help us out and we knew they would come right away. When we are not there, we are so happy to know there are families such as yours that care for our home as their own and want to help us keep on top of everything.

Wedding Weekend

  • 5 of 5

For my wedding weekend we decided to rent a lake house on LG to host the rehearsal dinner and give a "home base" to the wedding party. This house was awesome; recently redone and kept immaculately clean, and NOTHING beats a view of the sunset from the east side of lake George. It had it all. The owners were very kind, accommodating and easy to work with. Most of the out-of-towners wanted the contact info to be able to rent and book their own vacation. Thanks for an unforgettable weekend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words, and for the exceptional care you showed our property! We are so very proud of the hard work we put into rebuilding the house, and it was a joy to be able to share it with you for this wonderful occasion. We know we are a little biased, but we agree, there is nothing like the sunset from the East side of the Lake!

Amazing house, amazing setting!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a week-end stay and are already anxious to return. The house is perfectly located on the south-east shore, close enough to tourist activity such as Lake George Village and any shopping needs. It is also far enough away from those areas to enjoy a peaceful & quiet getaway.

We had without a doubt the nicest week-end that we could have. The weather worked in our favor, but by far the house and it’s amenities made our stay that much more fun. We swam off the dock, we fished, we cooked out, just to name a few activities. Having the boat in view of all while we were tubing made things that much more entertaining as well. And then the sunsets, we cannot believe what a beautiful setting it is. The patio is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The kitchen is well equipped, plenty of refrigeration with the summer kitchen located at the patio level. The kitchen is also very functional and a good size. The house is very well maintained, clean & comfortable. The bedrooms are just right, not too spacious but comfortable for sleeping. The bathrooms are nicely sized and very functional. The outdoor cabin is very nice, almost like having an additional hotel room on the property. The owners are very helpful, any questions we had during the renting process they responded to in a very timely manner. We are planning on returning next year for a full week, perhaps this can become a tradition for us!

Owner's Response: It was truly a pleasure to have you and your family as guests in our home. I was thrilled with the weather forecast for your long weekend, and I am so glad to know you spent so much time outside! The summer kitchen downstairs was the final part of the construction, and we are especially proud of how convenient it makes entertaining and relaxing by the lake. I am thrilled that you took full advantage of it. My family has had a home on this property since 1944, and it holds a very special place in our hearts. The complete rebuild was a dramatic one, and we couldn’t have asked for better first guests as we begin renting it out. We are thankful that you took such wonderful care of our home, and we can’t wait to see you again next year!
