About Steven Feldman
I am a 3D designer for visual effects for film and television. I have worked on 2 Harry Potter films for IMAX and many commercials over the years. Between 2007- 2012 I was teaching 3D animation and design in both China and India. Now, the design projects are houses in San Miguel.
Why Steven Feldman chose Olimpo
Casa Blanca dreams and the Batcasa have recently been showcased on the TV show The Worlds Weirdest Homes. These houses are other worldly, full of fun and inspiration. I design 3D special effects for film and TV, and have brought the fantasy world of film into a house for you and your family to enjoy. I have done work on 2 Harry Potter films, and all the magic has been brought into this house. Enjoy.

The "Bat Casa" has to be lived in to really appreciate..
Thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay in this truly unique property, From the warm welcome by our host, Steven (who also lives in a separate-and private-part of the Casa), the coffee and cereal he brought for us, the all important familiarization tour of the home, and the recommendations he provided for dining and sightseeing, to the overwhelmingly different architecture we knew we were in for a treat.
If you are familiar with the Gaudi designed properties in Barcelona-including the ever-evolving Sagrada Familia then you have some idea of the Bat Casa. Imagine waking up in a museum every day-that's how it felt. I had chosen the 3rd floor bedroom and outside my window was a half-size replica of "Winged Victory". My grandson chose the bat-cave bedroom while my granddaughter chose the loft-type bedroom reached by stairs which mimicked vertebrae and entered through a round almost cave-like portal.
There is only one bathroom (that is what kept me from posting a 5 star rating). Fortunately the 3rd floor bedroom did have a urinal-in the shape of 2 large red lips-which saved me from post-midnight trips down the external stairs.
Everything was quirky but everything worked. We were easily able to cook, there was a large refrigerator/freezer and plenty of dishes, etc.
Bat Casa is located just off a fairly busy 4 lane bypass on the Western portion of San Miguel but as it got dark there was very little traffic noise. Easy to flag taxis down on the 4 lane (not a limited access road) and you could get anywhere in town for a flat 50 pesos-about $2.50, depending on the exchange rate which fluctuated significantly every day-thanks to US politics.
Nice views from the Casa of the lake and the surrounding multi-colored homes. The weather in the summer is very pleasant, 50-60 degrees at night and 75-85 during the day. You may need to take a day or so to get used to the altitude. It's an almost perfect base for visiting one of the most unique villages in Mexico.
Thank you Steven for a most memorable stay.
Very quirky property! My Kids absolutley loved it!
We loved staying at The Bat Casa! My teenagers loved every minute of it. Steve is a great host and was great for communication both before and during our stay! It is a quirky house so there was only one separate bedroom the other other two bedrooms were caves just in case someone is expecting a lot of privacy. Kitchen was useful and Steve supplied coffee, cereal and yogurt upon arrival. Little stores were just a 1-2 min walk . It is a bit of a walk into town but taxi was only about $40-$50 pesos to get back.
February and March in San Miguel de Allende
To say this house is different would be an understatement. The listing fairly describes the property so there were no surprises regarding the accommodations.
Fantastic views. The mountains, lake and surrounding area present a pleasant panorama when enjoying wine and cheese on the covered terrace.
Easy access to public transportation The bus stop and taxis are a short walk from the house.
Having access to the ATV was a huge benefit. Short trips to the grocery store, tennis courts, etc. were a snap.
The house is full of sunlight, and we were always warm.
We made many friends in San Miguel and they all wanted a tour of the Bat Casa. It was the topic of many conversations.
The neighborhood is quite safe, and the neighbor was very nice.
We were without water for about 4 days. This was not the fault of the owner since it was due to construction. However, the owner should have had a water storage system in place to cover such situations. This is Mexico and interruption of water is not uncommon.
We were without hot water for two days. The propane tank ran dry and was not filled by the owner before he left town.
Since we ate all of our meals outside the house this was not a problem for us but the kitchen could have been better supplied with pots, pans, dishes, etc.
San Miguel is a fantastic city to visit. The weather was almost perfect, the restaurants are great, there is a lot to do both in the city and within 200 miles of the city. The intercity bus service is excellent; and if you don't speak Spanish, like us, you will not have any problems. The house does take some getting used to, but if you are looking for something different then this is definitely the house for you.
An improved backup system for the water is now in place.
The hot water system was newly installed during the time of this clients stay . I had to leave the country 2 times on family emergencies, So it made it made it difficult to monitor the water system fix the system shortcomings during this time.
Epic, Artful, Whimsical home in a beautiful town that is a must if you have a sense of humor!
We stayed at Batcasa for Day of the Dead 2016. We took our two sons and they completely freaked out! They loved being at the casa as much as the festival! It is amazingly functional, too! Steven was a great host as well. He went above and beyond to give us an amazing experience. Steven offered us use of the ATV, but a 24 hour parking facility on Pila Seca in the city centro was so convenient and affordable that it wasn't needed. 250 pesos for the day and you come and go as much as you want. The house is in a very safe neighborhood, close to the nearby main road into town and has amazing views of the lake and mountains. Steve has Netflix on the TV and the WiFi works great. We will be back!!!! Thank you again Steve!
Tiffanie and her family were wonderful guest to have at the house. They took care of the house, and enjoyed it to the fullest. You want this family to stay at your home. A full 5 stars for this family.
A truly artistic casa in San Miguel
Steve is a wonderful, generous host and the imaginative mind behind this Artista Casa. It was a wonderful experience to stay in such unique accommodations. Visionary architecture aside, there is a full kitchen, lots of hot water for showers after a long day exploring San Miguel (walkable from the casa or on one of Steve's ATVs), comfortable beds, terrific rooftop patio with gorgeous views of the town and beautiful sunsets and wifi. Steve supplied the kitchen with yogurt, cereal and delicious coffee to get us started and was available to answer questions about San Miguel. Not to be missed!
I have been blessed with such wonderful people staying at the house. It is always great to meet the next person passing thru San Miguel.
Better than we could have imagined
To begin, Steven is a great host- very helpful, warm, and inviting. The house is something else, definitely even cooler than the pics can show, very artistic, and with all the comforts you want in a home. The beds were very comfortable, I think they are new too, slept like babies every night during our stay. Very safe neighborhood, with all the amenities within a 10 min ATV ride- tops! Having access to the atv was the icing on the cake, we used it to explore areas you would never get to by taxi, and at the same time were able to drive it downtown for a nice dinner every night too!
You must have a valid drivers license and passport in order to drive the ATV. And a liability waiver and contract must be signed.
