A spacious three floor custom log home with radiant floor heat through out. Decorated with local art and artifacts collected through out the state of Alaska. On the top floor, enjoy a large master suite with a king size bed, extra-large Jacuzzi tub and steam/hydro jet massage shower. Enjoy spectacular views of the Alaska Range from up here or watching the northern lights from bed during the winter months or just closing the blackout blinds to get some sleep during the times of the midnight sun. For the working vacationer, take advantage of the third floor office space fully equipped with a spacious cherry wood desk, high-speed internet and printer access. Occasionally glancing up from your work to take in the wilderness, wildlife and solitude around you.
The bottom floor offers two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the second has two twin beds, both share a full size bathroom with its own Jacuzzi tub/shower. These two rooms walk out to a full size family room complete with a home theater system and from here you can walk out to a wraparound covered patio that's connected to a well-manicured lawn that you can go bare foot. The laundry room is also located on this floor.
The main floor offers an open floor plan that includes a gourmet kitchen fully-equipped with new appliances, a spacious coffee / wine bar and a dining area for up to 8. The kitchen is equipped with everything you may need to prepare a hardy breakfast or gourmet meals to a Thanksgiving style sit down dinner. Large walk in pantry with full size refrigerator and full size freezer/ice maker. This living area has a spacious sectional and two cozy chairs for seating of 6 comfortably around a soap stone wood stove on cool days or nights. A separate seating area for two is also located on this floor for reading or getting away to watch a game or favorite show on a 26" TV that also swivels for viewing while in the kitchen preparing a favorite meal. A spacious coffee/wine bar with separate sink, beverage refrigerator and a 1/2 bath is also on this floor.
While on this floor, you can walk out the front door to a covered 250 sqft deck that is perfect to relax in one of the rocking chairs on a rainy day and take in the smells of the local gardens. Or maybe sit and drink a cup of coffee as the sun has been shinning for hours on this side of the house this morning and stop to listen to the sounds of the mountains waking up.
The other 500sqft of deck is accessible off this floor from the back and side doors. You can BBQ on the gas grill, eat meals and/or lounge outside on the deck furniture while taking in the views of the Alaska Range, Cook inlet or just the wildlife wandering through the property from this open deck. 200sqft of this deck is also covered.
Our property is private and tucked away, not located on a through street. Skiing, hiking, fishing, rock climbing and biking are all within a 20 minute drive or less. Close enough to downtown Anchorage to enjoy fine dining and shows and still appreciate the solitude and scenery of the Chugach Mts.
We absolutely love Alaska! I was born in NW Alaska in the village of Kotzebue, am an Inupiaq and have lived my entire life here. My husband came to Alaska in the early 80's with USAF and instantly fell in love with Alaska (and with me). He has called it home for over 30 years. There is so much to see and do and it's perfect for those that love the outdoors. We built our garage/apt and moved in during the fall of 1998. We finished drying in the main house that year and spent the rest of that winter and spring finishing the inside of our dream home. We moved in May of 1999.
Dee Murphy purchased this house in 1998
I've always wanted a log home and it did not take much to persuade my husband that this was our dream property to build our dream home. The 2 acre property is private, with a large manicured back yard, two rock flower gardens with a sitting area with a chimneya. A separate, larger fire pit for the winter months and plenty of natural landscape to enjoy the wildlife that passes through the property. Enjoy grilling on the back deck and take in the spectacular views and sounds of the Chugach Mts.
Enjoy exceptional views of Cook Inlet, The Alaska Range and Chugach Mountains from three decks surrounding the house, as well as great opportunities to encounter wildlife such as moose, brown and black bear, lynx and on rare occasions wolfs. This is also a great central location for any activity you choose. Just 20 minutes to fishing, skiing or rock climbing and a very short scenic drive south where you can see beluga whales and Dall Sheep on occasion. Great trails nearby for walking, hiking or biking as well as cross country skiing in the winter. Cook a meal in a kitchen equipped for all your culinary needs or soak in one of the two Jacuzzi tubs (single & double) or maybe just take a steam or a hydro massage. An indoor soap stone wood stove guaranteed to take the chill out of any Alaskan night or just relax in the garden with a fire going, a glass of wine and take in the views and sounds of the wild.
This was our first trip to Alaska and it turned out to be the perfect vacation. Dee and Sean's home was well equipped with all the essentials - paper products, spices, soaps, shampoos, washer/dryer, coffee, tea, etc. Upon our arrival, Dee and Sean had provided a bottle of wine, fresh salmon dip, smoked salmon, and some delicious scones and coffee for the morning. We stayed 2 weeks and the essentials were a huge bonus! The house sits on a beautiful well maintained property with gorgeous rock gardens overlooking the Turnagain Arm just outside of Anchorage in Potters Creek Subsivision. On a clear day you can see the snowy Alaska Range Mountains and Sleeping Lady. The sunset colors were amazing from the back deck, and we saw a few northern lights after dark even though it was early September. Great location for all our day trips, hiking, and just a few miles into Anchorage to explore restaurants, shops, and sightseeing. The owners, Dee and Sean, were very helpful recommending their favorite hiking trails, parks, restaurants, etc. Our weather was perfect and it only rained the last day of our trip which allowed us to explore downtown Anchorage and relax before our long trip home. Definitely would recommend this beautiful property....A+++++. Sheila and Gary Kahle, Jasper, GA
My family and I have stayed at this property several times while traveling in Alaska. This is the place where we come to rest our souls and breathe in the majesty of Alaska. Unwinding and hitting the reset button comes easy here with the gracious hospitality of our hosts, the beautiful gardens, the comforts of the house, and the stunning view. Sitting on the deck in the early morning hours among the flowers, wildlife, and mountains is one of my favorite places in the world to be. Dee and Sean have done an exceptional job decorating the house with Alaskan artifacts while providing all the comforts of home. Their knowledge of local attractions, exceptional dining, and where to go for the best outdoor adventures help us to know what not to miss while visiting Alaska. As other reviewers mentioned this property sits in perfect location to venture out on day trips, either north or south, and still return nightly to enjoy the evening views, a warm shower and comfortable bed! This place is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway, families who want to experience Alaska together, executives who want to work remotely, or retirees looking for adventure. My girls age, 8 & 10 loved it and are already asking when they can return! Thank you Sean and Dee for sharing your piece of paradise with us! We will be back!
Without first-hand knowledge when securing lodging online, it's not often that expectations are not only met but actually are exceeded. This was the case when we selected Dee & Sean's Main House for a family retreat in July. To our delight, the home's accommodations, amenities, and natural habitat of floral and fauna were accurately described. Our hosts' attention to detail and conscientiousness in maintaining the property to insure guests' expectations are met was apparent.
Moreover, the property's location offers a getaway from all things urban (including a breath-taking water view) yet it's a short drive into the city of Anchorage to pick up supplies and/or indulge in day trips.
Thank you to our consummate hosts Dee & Sean for a memorable vacation.
We just had a spectacular "girls only" getaway at Dee and Sean's gorgeous property and our stay could not have been better! Not only is the house itself unique and beautiful, but the views of Cook Inlet and the beautiful gardens surrounding the property can't be beat!
Alaska was our destination to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. We decided not to the do cruise like "everyone does" but stay at one place and do our own exploring. Our family enjoyed the spectacular log cabin home and all the extra touches that Dee and Sean provided. The location was wonderful for all the day trips we took to explore the area and they provided lots of information on what to do in the area along with the best places to eat. Make sure you take a glacier day cruise though! The house itself had magnificent Alaska theme throughout with the view of Cook Inlet amazing. Perfect home for our family of 5 to relax each evening after our busy days. Our 8 year old loved the foosball table with daily tournaments. I would highly recommend staying at this beautiful home and enjoying all the amazing things they offer on the property for a relaxing time in Alaska!
My cousin and her husband rented the house for a month and I visited them for a week with my parents and sister. We had the best time!!! As other reviewers have stated, the house is ideally situated so that after our lovely day-long excursions (e.g., Seward, Talkeetna, etc.), it was heavenly coming back “home” to such comfort. Sean and Dee are meticulously detailed and make the stay at their well-maintained home absolutely perfect. Many wonderful memories were made during our summer visit and what a gorgeous view from the deck (which we enjoyed past midnight)! Thank you Sean and Dee for your kindness and thoughtfulness and please give Coebuck a pat for his good guarding of the homes ;) Best wishes on becoming grandparents in the fall!
