Words will escape you when you drive through the entrance of this breathtaking property. This beautiful 20 acre estate is unlike anything you will find in the sierra foothills or even the state of California. Custom home built in a New England style begs enjoyment and relaxation. Enjoy sitting on the covered porch overlooking a pristine landscaped pond and listen to fits of laughter as your friends and family jump from the dock and splash around in the crisp water. Relax in the garden with a good book or get some exercise on a hike or a bike ride and catch a glimpse of the Bear River. Stop and nuzzle velvety noses along the way (this is a horse property) or pick a few blackberries and bake a pie in a beautiful cook's kitchen. Get the competitive juices flowing with a game of croquet on the manicured back lawn or head to the horseshoe pit. Unwind by the fire or hot tub and feel as if you were transported to a spa. Take an ultra refreshing outdoor shower and you won’t be disappointed!
Feeling Adventurous? Try wine tasting at Mount Vernon Winery or visit historic Old Town Auburn Nevada City or Lake Tahoe. Breathtaking hikes and top notch skiing is a mere hour drive on Interstate 80. Fabulous golf courses abound in every direction. Pets welcome here but it should be noted that they may never want to leave. First time on the market so come and have a look for yourself and start making your plans!
No matter how far up in the corporate ladder you get, you are still reporting to someone! I retired from 'corporate restructuring ' in 1996 at the age of 52. I wanted, for once, to do build something I could say 'I did it my way.' It has taken 16 years of complete joy to build this serene and private ranch. I felt it was time to share it and my horses, dogs and mini donkeys with others that seek this private and quiet vacation. Horses enrich my life and I hope they do yours when you are here. I promise a unique experience. You won't want to leave!
Megan DeWeerdt purchased this estate in 1999
Because it is not a property, but a ranch all to yourself.
From wherever you look it is yours.
We couldn't have been happier. Love the house , the setting the animals ,etc. loved the privacy aspect also. Very gracious owners as well. Plenty for children to do as well as for adults. We would love to come back
This Auburn house is such a gem, from the completely picturesque setting, to the warm, welcoming hosts, to the completely outfitted lake. We've come back twice now and are looking forward to another visit.
Our son was getting married and we were looking for a place to host a rehearsal dinner and to house some of our family and a lot of the wedding party. We found this home on-line and my reaction the entire weekend was pure delight! The place is even better than it looks on-line. It is well stocked with anything you'll need if you're cooking, playing, or relaxing. All the rooms are charming, there are 'retreat' spaces all over the property. The animals are a sweet bonus, the pond was SOOOO much fun. The owners/hosts were extremely accommodating, super responsive and really nice people! We are still talking about the place!! It definitely exceeded our expectations for a very important weekend!
This place is so beautiful and versatile. It works so well for whatever your vacation needs may be. The swimming water is always clean and refreshing. The kitchen is great if you want to cook a big meal while socializing. The animals are beautiful and friendly. The owners/hosts are accommodating and easy to work with. If you are looking for a place to relax for a week or a weekend, look no further.
This home is so well equipped, there were 11 of us staying in this well appointed home. The grounds are so beautiful, and there are so many different play areas the pond was a big hit with my 5 grandchildren. Megan was so dog friendly, my dogs also had a wonderful time..The only draw back for my family was that there wasn't televisions in the bedrooms. We had a wonderful time in this spacious, beautiful home. Sandy
Oh my gosh, this property and house are amazing! The house is a beautiful, comfortable "home". We walked in and were wowed by the spacious, well-appointed rooms and floor to ceiling bookshelves (filled with fabulous reading material...heaven!). In the kitchen there were all-clad pots and pans, sharp knives, and beautiful dishes. To add to the "this is your home" feeling, we noted that there was good, original art in every room, even the many bathrooms. Our hosts even stocked the refrigerator (we had two actually) with carrots, so that we could feed the horses and burros that are kept on the property. We had sit-down dinners at the antique dining table in the dining room or ate on the porch that is filled with comfy adirondack chairs. We had our coffee in the morning on the porch overlooking our own personal pond/lake. Of course we were supplied with ample towels, water toys, umbrellas, chairs, etc. The children and adults fished, floated, and went down the zip line. Some in our group hiked to a nearby river and panned for gold (this is the original Calif gold rush area). In the early evening, we floated quietly on paddle boards in the middle of the lake and quietly watched dragonflies land on our up stretched fingers...this place was magical!
This is a special and private retreat yet very close to all kinds of recreation that the Lake Tahoe area has to offer. Plenty of fun to be had in Nevada City, Grass Valley and locally in Auburn. Swimming, horseback riding, mountain biking....it's all here to enjoy
