Spectacular Views In Mountain Home Retreat 30 Min From Breckenridge!

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,020 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

This home has everything you need for a wonderful escape from everyday life. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom in this cozy top level house. There is a basement, but it is not yet finished (perfect for tossing skis and boots without worrying about the wood floors).

One bedroom has a bunk bed that sleeps 3 (full/twin bunk) and the master bedroom has a full size bed. This home is immaculately clean and we provide all the fundamentals needed to cook and enjoy. Modern appliances, TV with DVDs (no cable) and satellite internet. Internet is via satellite and is fast enough for browsing internet, checking email and messaging. It does not support video streaming, or FaceTime.

The large balcony overlooks two colorado 14'ers and the heavily treed lot (apps 1.5 acre lot). You will enjoy complete privacy.

Just in case someone is sensitive to altitude, the home is equipped an oxygen condenser (in the off chance you need a little more O2).

The drive to Breckenridge is about 25 miles. There are restaurants in FairPlay (about a 10 minute drive). Note, the location on the map is not precise, so we would provide the exact directions. We have enjoyed this home for a few years now (first owners) and are confident you will too.

You must have a 4-wheel (or all wheel) drive vehicle in the winter and spring months. The summer we recommend at least an all-wheel drive. The cabin is remote and can be tricky to find in the dark. Recommend getting there in the daylight. The stars are amazing at night when the sky are clear.

This cabin has central heating but no air conditioner. The temperatures drop to around 40 degrees at night in the summer and that keeps the cabin nice and cool.

About The Stones

We are super adventurous and love to cook. As you will see, we keep the place immaculate and have purchased some very nice things over the last several years. We know you will appreciate the atmosphere this home brings.

The Stones purchased this house in 2010

Why The Stones chose Valley of the Sun

This place is about 25 miles from Breckenridge. The drive is not too bad but you will want a 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle in the winter. The reason this place is special is because of the location in a historic town with tons of culture.

On your drive in to Breckenridge, you will pass through Alma where you can stop for a bagel and cup of coffee. Don't miss out on Al-Mart which is a great experience.

Going over Hoiser pass allows you to have some of the most spectacular views ever!

In the summer, we love to take the kids gold panning and hiking. The surrounding area is rich with wild life such as moose and elk.

Fly fishing and fresh water fishing is just a short hike down the road or a short drive to the reservoir which is super pristine. Catch some fish and bring it back to cook!

The house is two stories with a walk in basement. The basement is not finished so its a perfect place to leave boots and gear.

What makes this house unique

This home is small and cozy. There are snow shoes, gold pans, and fishing rods for you to use. There are excellent restaurants (one of our favorites - Millonzis) just down in FairPlay.

The house is absolutely, beautiful. The road getting to the house is very rough. Advise 4- wheel vehicle. We had Subaru Forester it was OK. Definitely some rough spots. We went to get away from things and this is a perfect place to do so. Deck has gorgeous views and we got to watch a family of foxes that showed up morning and night. Breckinridge is not far for shopping and lovely restaurants. There is no television, but plenty of movies to watch after busy days, we fished and hiked much of the week we were there. Phone service is great, email is slow. Would go again, wonderful place to get away.

Quiet, secluded cabin

Denise was very helpful with any requests. Far enough away from things, but yet close enough to Breck for day trips. Amazing property!!

Great Views, Privacy, and Comfort!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked a very last minute trip out to Colorado. I reached out to Denise and received a reply within minutes. Ha! She was so very helpful and available to answer any of our questions. The house is about 30-40 minutes from Breck at around 11,250 ft of altitude. The views were magnificent. The house spectacular and meticulously clean. The layout was perfect, beds comfy, cozy fireplace, and many amenities that made our stay so enjoyable. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Thank you so much Denise and family for sharing your beautiful home. Until next time Colorado!

Gorgeous View, Great Memories

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 rang in 2017 at this beautiful cabin. Our 4 year old son saw snow for the first time and our 7 year old daughter was able to build her first snowman. We used the sled in the private back yard and had snowball fights and made snow angels...these are all big deals for us Texans! We couldn't have had as much fun in a town setting, that's for sure.

We hardly left except to go out shopping one day in Breck (the drive is gorgeous!) and for dinner at Millonzis in Fairplay for NYE.

There are lots of board games available, a warm fire, a great kitchen and lots of DVDs to choose from if you'd like to get some screen time while you stay out of the cold...or you can rent one from Alma's infamous Al-Mart if you go to get some extra snacks or other necessities!

Denise was always available via text when we had questions before and during our trip, which was very helpful. I want to mention that the cabin was spotless too. These are top notch accommodations!

All in all this was the perfect way to spend some time away from it all. We couldn't have picked a better setting than the Stone Cabin and we hope to make a follow-up trip!

A fantastic experience!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was in great condition. It felt like a newly constructed cabin, extremely clean with brand new furniture and appliances. All of the rooms were very comfortable and spacey. The decorations were very classy and with the fire place, the whole cabin had a warm and cozy feeling. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed for those days we decided to dine in. It is essential to have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle, especially in winter. The directions to cabin was great and we had no problems finding it. One caution to future winter guests - when driving on snow covered roads you should try to stay on the center of the road and avoid going into snow covered ditches on the side of the roads that are hidden under the snow. We had a memorable experience getting stuck in snow on our first day but with the help from friendly locals we managed to deal with it quickly. Drive from the cabin to Breckenridge was enjoyable with great views (30-45 minutes drive based on road conditions). Overall, we highly recommend this property.
