Unimpressed with this badly maintained property

We were completely unimpressed and disappointed with this home, which is in bad repair and was not clean on arrival. It was just before Christmas when these issues became apparent, and I was not up for any further hassle, so we decided to not complain but just stick with it and do some basic cleaning of my own. For example there was a strange smell inside the kitchen units. When I investigated I discovered dead cockroaches and mouse droppings in various cupboards. Also same in the front bedroom wardrobe. I was especially unhappy over this as there was a very hefty “cleaning charge” added to my bill which I paid before arrival. There is a warning in the contract about the need to clean the barbeque. But we found it dirty from previous use, and my first task was to give it a basic clean-up before we tried to use it.

Apart from being quite dated (which itself is not an issue), the home is in my view in general bad repair. For example, we bought a load of meat for a Christmas Eve barbeque, only to find the igniter does not work – on Christmas Eve, after all shops were closed, and so no chance to buy any matches. After we eventually resolved this issue, it then became apparent that one of the main burners does not work, so we could only use part of the cooking plates (there were 5 adults to cook for). The only patio light is right on the waterfront – away from the Barbeque (chained to fence so unmovable) , so it’s impossible to see what you are trying to cook. (There obviously was a light on the house wall near the barbeque at some point, but it’s broken off and the hole badly filled). The insect screens across the patio doors are meant to slide, but they just don’t – try to slide them and they fall out on top of you, which is a potential safety hazard. The dishwasher does not clean dishes well, and was smelly.

Like I said, I decided I was not up for complaining, but when we were leaving, as I was checking the check-out procedures, I noticed a feedback form. I filled in this form, with all of the above comments, and I also copied and emailed it to Island Breeze , together with photographic evidence of the dirty cupboards. However, after over a week, I have received no feedback or comment from Island Breeze (the managers) at all, so I am just writing this review instead.

Also beware that the adjoining property is neglected and derelict and presents a very unsightly view looking left off the patio (of course this is not the fault of the owners/managers).
