Located in the heart of Lower Puna called the Red Road, Land of Pele and live volcanoes. Our closest state park, McKenzie, is now as far as one can drive on the Red Road. Starting at the park, there is an Oceanside rough lava trail which traverses the lava ocean entries of our recent 2018 volcanic eruption. Along this trail you will see brand new black sand beaches, and a portion of the Red Road before arriving at Pohoiki, a beloved surf, picnic swim spot and boat launch, currently inaccessible by cars. This trail is rough and solid boots or shoes are a must.
