About the owner: David and Val have been providing Cowichan friendly hospitality for 30 years. Our progression from city to country living in moves from Vancouver to Victoria and into the Cowichan Valley has brought over time a knowledge of the bounty rural Island living offers. Opportunity to forage on our spring and fall hikes, to attempt to manage our runaway gardens, to enjoy locally grown foods, from teas to meats, cheeses, and wines. The 2017 spring and summer season likely to be the year to have a last visit as in the fall we close the Gatehouse
Why the Owner Chose Duncan, BC, Canada:
This historic property is only an hour from Victoria's attractions and Nanaimo Harbour sights, but also a world away. The gently winding road brings us to 'the Riverbottom' where Victoria gentry came to hunt and flyfish at the turn of the last century. It is no wonder that the river has become a park corridor with 20 kilometres (12 miles) of linear trail, two 30 plus kilometres of bike corridors. The Cowichan Valley offers wineries and an abundance of farm supplied cheeses, meats, tea, veggies, to tease your palate. 'Sahtlam' is derived from the geographic area and is generally understood to mean 'the leafy place'. In fall we enjoy the gold that mingles into the evergreen backdrop of the hillside across the river. And then of course there is swimming at our riverfront beach in summer...
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Location, location, location... become immersed in the wilderness and find your portals to the river experiences from the serenity and peace of the Gatehouse Cabin...outfitted for your comfort.
