Akala Pua (Pink Hibiscus) is a lovely three bedroom, three full bathroom home located less than 100 yards from Poipu's Baby Beach and very near Lawai Beach in sunny Poipu, Kauai. Akala Pua is a lovely Hawaiian plantation style home with a whitewater ocean view that will take you back to old Hawaii. Maybe that is why our guests just love Akala Pua! The house design brings families together to talk and bond. The location gives them plenty of choices. And the decoration and furnishing makes it comfortable. But see for yourself -- visit the guestbook to see how much everyone loves their vacation in Akala Pua.

Driving to Poipu, people always wonder “Did I rent a good house?” Drive four houses past Akala Pua, your first thought will be “WOW! The ocean is really close!” Then you may wonder where to park your car because the parking area for Akala Pua is beautiful lawn growing through concrete blocks. So drive right on the lawn! Walk up the meandering walk to the front porch, remove your shoes and step into the entry of this Hawaiian plantation style home and you immediately begin to see the great decorating and furnishings. Original oil paintings and natural wood trim and doors scream out “Hawaii!” You start to feel the gentle breezes that flow through and cool this house because every room has cross ventilation. Perhaps your children “OOH” and “AAH” when they see their room, and it really hits you, “This is better than home!”

Walk up the meandering walk to the front porch and into the entry of this Hawaiian plantation style home and you immediately begin to see the great decorating and furnishings. Original Hawaiian oil paintings graces several walls. You will also start to feel the gentle breezes that flow through and cool this house because every room has cross ventilation.

From the entry, turn left and walk upstairs into the great room with its twelve foot high vaulted wood-beam ceilings and ceiling fans. On the left is the living area with a panoramic view on three sides, decorated with a large rattan sofa, a two person rattan loveseat, and a comfortable rattan easy chair with ottoman. The entertainment center has a flat screen television with a DVD player and a CD stereo system with Hawaiian CD's provided. On the right is the glass dining table for eight with rattan chairs and the kitchen. The kitchen is modern and spacious with granite countertops. There is a GE range with microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. From the kitchen sink you can see the whitewater ocean view past the dining table. The kitchen is completely stocked. In addition to all the pots, pans and cooking utensils you will need, there are matching sets of dishware, glassware, knives and silverware. Since you will need more than that to cook a meal, you will usually find aluminum foil, saran wrap, baggies, wax paper, coffee filters, paper napkins, paper towels, dish liquid and dishwasher soap, plus many other necessary kitchen supplies.

Outside the great room is a 100 square foot roofed lanai with a table and four chairs that is great for morning breakfast or evening meals or just watching the sunsets.

Back downstairs are the bedrooms, the laundry, a storage room, and the garage.

On the far right side of the entry is the first master bedroom suite decorated island style. This bedroom has a sliding door on one wall and windows another wall plus a ceiling fan for great ventilation. The California king-size bed is firm and an original oil painting hangs over it. There are bedside tables, a full dresser, and a 19" television. The private bathroom for this bedroom has dual lavatories, a five-foot shower, a toilet and windows to keep it from steaming up.

On the far left side of the entry is the second master bedroom suite nearly identical to the first one and also decorated island style. This bedroom has a sliding door on one wall and windows another wall plus a ceiling fan for great ventilation. The California king-size bed is firm and an original oil painting hangs over it. There are bedside tables, a full dresser, and a 19" television. The private bathroom for this bedroom has dual lavatories, a tub/shower with glass enclosure, a toilet and windows to keep it from steaming up.

In the middle is the third bedroom with two twin beds that can be made into an Eastern king bed for just a $25 fee. It also has three tropical bedside tables, and a dresser. There is a sliding door out to a 100 square foot covered lanai that makes an ideal place to sit and enjoy morning coffee. It also has two windows and a ceiling fan to keep it cool. This bedroom has its own bathroom across the hall with dual lavatories, a shower, toilet, and windows to keep it from steaming up.

Past the bedrooms is the separate laundry room with washer, dryer and sink. Next to that is the storage room that holds the beach chairs, sand toys, and coolers. Previous guests may have left boogie boards and snorkeling gear.

Outside Akala Pua is a 3000 square foot lawn with chaise lounges for sunbathing on those days when you don't want to make the 3 minute walk to the beach. The lawn is also home to a gas barbecue. Akala Pua shares this lawn with our two bedroom home, Ahe Lani.

Aloha from Jim and Valorie Wisda. We recently moved to Scottsdale, Arizona from Palos Verdes Estates, California where we raised a wonderful son and daughter. We have been coming to Poipu since 1970 and no matter how often we travel to other places or countries we visit, like this picture in Thailand, we always look forward to coming back to Poipu several times a year.

Why Buzz Wisda chose South Shore

We bought the lot a few years after hurricane Iniki while the cost of lots was still low because it offered us the opportunity to help vacationers experience a really wonderful house in a good location at an affordable rent. This house is just two houses back from the ocean, and the rent is less than half of those houses less than 100 yards away! This is really one of the best values in Poipu. It is a great house in a very good location at a fair and affordable rent.

What makes this house unique

Whitewater ocean view. Lushly landscaped yard. Privacy.

Best of all, the open living area promotes family gatherings with places to sit and 'talk story', but with plenty of room for everyone to have adequate space.

Great location, great backyard, clean and comfortalbe house!

We recently stayed for a week with three small children. The house was clean, comfortable and the backyard was perfect for our kids to play in while we relaxed. There is so much within walking distance to the house too. You can walk to the farmers market on Wednesdays, restaurants, small market, shops and (where we spent a lot of time) Baby Beach.

Even though there was a couple renting the house behind us at the same time, the backyard still felt private to us.

I am already looking forward to coming back and hopefully with another family so we can rent the two houses together!

Fantastic home. Short walk to the beach. Equiped with everything needed for a fantastic vacation!

This was the perfect home for our family vacation. The owners were wonderful to work with and very accommodating. The house had everything we needed for a superb and comfortable stay to include beach towels, all the kitchen amenities, spacious bedrooms, comfortable beds, huge upstairs with plenty of room for a family of 6. We loved the fact that there were three bathrooms so no one needed to share. It was super clean and bug free. We did have a few gecko visitors but enjoyed their company (especially our daughter as she has one for a pet). The lanai was the place we had coffee every morning, listening to the ocean and watching the birds. The backyard was an excellent place to kick the ball around while waiting for our food to get done on the grill. There was plenty of space to park three cars. The beach was a 4 minute walk from the house of which we visited almost every day, Spouting Horn and the botanical gardens were a short drive up the street. This was our children's first visit to the island and having a special place to stay made their experience all the better. They commented on how they could call this place their home. We will definitely would stay here again and recommend this home to our friends and family.

Very lovely home!

There were 6 adults in my family spending the week in your beautiful home and we all agreed we would come back to stay there in a heartbeat! We especially loved the layout, having an open concept in living room, eating area and kitchen with a lanai that had a peekaboo view of the water. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, very pretty décor. We all appreciated the close proximity of the very nice shopping area and the beaches and the fact we could walk back and forth between them all. It was also especially nice having beach towels, chairs and mats and didn't have to worry about bringing all of that from the mainland or buying and only using for a short time. Washer and dryer were also wonderful to have! Your home was everything you said it was and our first experience with VRBO was a wonderful one. And added benefit to our stay, was the sweet family that rented the other home on your property, we got along great! We'll see you soon again I hope!

Can we live here please!!?

This was an amazing vacation experience. The house was beautiful and so well appointed. We did not need anything!! The kitchen has everything we needed right down to salt and pepper.

We like to grind our coffee beans which we were able to do with either of the two grinders. There were plenty of beach towels, hot water, and the beds were very comfy. Two of the pillows were a little too hard for our liking but we just switched them out for softer ones with the shams on them. Even though the view wasn't a full ocean view, we still were able to see beautiful skies and lush greenery and we even were surprised by the flocks of parrots/parakeets who flew in each evening. We had a little trouble watching videos on the vcr but we just switched to watching the tv. The location was perfect. We could walk to the beach to snorkel or to the shopping center to shop. Overall, we would highly recommend this property and will book it again if it's available.

Kauai house

It was a beautiful 3 bedroom & 3 bath home. It was great for our family of five. We called about the leaking sink & window cover that was sticky- they couldn't have been nicer. They were immediately fixed. The kitchen was well stocked & nicely appointed.

It was wonderful being close to Baby Beach & Lawai Beach. We loved having the bogey boards & chairs for our use.

I washed the nice thick beach towels before we left so the cleaners wouldn't have so much laundry to do.

We had a great time.

Very clean with a great layout for three couples

One of the first rentals we've ever had that we didn't feel the need to wash down with bleach before we could get comfortable. On top of that it was beautifully finished with a great floor plan. Having the open main floor was great for socializing and the large kitchen suited our needs.

The location was great. Close to lots of good beaches. We would definitely stay here again.

The best activity on the island is a boat tour of the Napali Coast, and this is available through a number of boat companies. There are also helicopter charters for touring the island. Waimea Canyon can be accessed by car and takes about 1/2 day.
