Amazing!!1 Want to go back again and again!!
We had three families together staying at Datura Villa over the Christmas holiday, and we cannot say enough great things about it. All three families had children (varying ages) but they were never bored, and the adults were never run to death trying to keep them occupied. The property itself is unbelievable, and just being able to enjoy the pool every day was worth it!!
The staff at the Villa was gracious, and became part of the family! We invited them to eat Christmas dinner with us, and they bent over backwards for whatever we needed. I had read a suggestion that if you needed/wanted something at the Villa, simply ask. They said the people there are not mind readers, but I will tell you they will do any and everything to accommodate you. All three lovely ladies in the kitchen are spectacular and amazing cooks along with great people. Henry helps with anything you need, and Rumbar his Chocolate Lab brought us a little piece of home since he looked just like our dog. Chisholm and Steve are great with transportation, and very informative as you move along your travels about the sights of Montego Bay.
I will throw out a couple of suggestions for the property and future residents, though not harsh criticism, as Randel and I have spoke in regards to this. Understand you are in the Caribbean, so it is hot, and if you don't like may not be the best place for you, that being said, the a/c in the transportation van does not blow very cold at all. Now I was fine with it, but some of the women had issues. There are explainable reasons behind it, and not a huge deal. If you like a hard bed, which I do, you are in luck because the mattresses are new I believe and are rather firm. Again, not a big deal. Last, and really not a concern to visitors, but the kitchen staff deserves an a/c unit. As hard as those women work, it is really unbearable in the hot kitchen with only a fan. Again, this is me knit picking things, but as a business owner, improvements can always be made.
I would recommend and encourage anyone looking at this to book as quickly as you can!!! The country and scenery is amazing, but the people at Datura Villa make it unforgettable!!!! Ask for the Banana Cake for every dessert, I promise you will message me and thank me!!!
Leave the resort or never leave - either way yopu will have a wonderful time.
My wife and I stayed for one week with three other couples 2/18 to 2/25/2018. A huge house, we never felt crowded. The view cannot be properly expressed by the web site, simply breathtaking. The best thing about our stay was the staff. Precious, the main cook met with us our first morning and planned all meals and times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This in it self made for such a relaxing vacation. Doc Henry (the "gardener") was special. He attended to all are needs, answered questions and help arrange day trips. We hired Chisolm for the week to take us to the beach, Negril, Rick's Café, and lazy river raft ride.
Pros: You can do excursions or never leave the resort and have a wonderful time. The views. The food was outstanding and set at the table timely every day. Bedrooms/ bath rooms cleaned daily (clean sheets and towels) with 4 of 5 bedrooms with their own private bath. A bathroom by the pool made getting rid of beer and cocktails an easy step away.
Cons: We all agreed we were not expecting all the traffic noise from the highway almost 2 miles away. We understand they are in the process of making all trucks have muffled jack breaks. There was no Ice "chest" just a igloo water jug to fill with beer and ice would only hold 6-8 beers and had to refill. The "apartment" size guest fridge took awhile to cool our beverages, but could put in the kitchen freezer for short time to get ice cold. Beds were comfortable, but could upgrade the pillows. Chisolm was informative, but soft spoken so people in the back of the van could not hear him all the time. He also has failing eye sight and had his son Steve drive if we had a long trip planned or there was night driving involved. I was surprised the pool water was a bit chilly, but after couple of beers who cares. The hot tub was perfect temperature.
Another note about security: The villa has two locked gates (and are kept locked) on it's drive way leading up to house. Doc Henry tours the grounds after dark and locks all of the doors after everyone is asleep. He also took on some hikes thru areas he said it would be best to only go with him along and the locals respect his position. On excursions Chisolm is always with the van and waits in the parking lot until your return trip.
From the Southwest to the West Indies
We (our group of 6) had a fabulous time at Datura Villa! We did not want for anything. The view was breathtaking; the accommodations comfortable and spacious; the food amazing; the staff personable, friendly, and extremely helpful!
We will definitely return! If you are questioning staying at this home, don't! You will love it!
The best vacation ever!!!
There is nothing difficult about a vacation at Datura Villa except for leaving!! Oh my goodness!!! We had the BEST vacation ever last week.
Our families had such a lovely time from the moment we arrived til the sad moment when we had to say goodbye. From start to finish this vacation was top-notch. Randel, the managing partner, was easy to work with and helped with all of our pre-trip arrangements. He answered every email and question promptly and thoroughly. When we arrived, we met our driver and local contact, Chisholm, who was also wonderful. Polite, professional, knowledgeable, easy-going, AND an experienced and safe driver! (we did the mayfield falls trip and we were soooo grateful he was doing the driving!!!) Our kids loved him.
The house staff/cooks, Shereen, Opie and Precious were absolutely amazing...so sweet, kind, professional, thoughtful and such good cooks!!!!! They really treated our families like their own and we were so appreciative. Our children loved them too...lots of hugs and pictures on Saturday night. Henry, the groundskeeper, was great and also easy-going...very kind-natured and helpful.
The villa was beautiful...the view was exceptional and breath-taking.
We took a beach trip every morning....either to Doctor's Cave, Negril or Seawinds Club. All were amazing however Seawinds and Negril were our favorites. We also went to the Mayfield Falls and took an awesome waterfall tour. The drive there was through some pretty narrow and rough terrain but it was definitely worth the trip. We had a great tour with Garfield as our guide.
Chisholm was very helpful in arranging these day trips for us.
We ate almost all of our meals at the villa because the food and setting were so nice we had no interest in going to any restaurants. We worked on our menu with Shereen after our first morning there and selected a delicious menu for the week. Our group included 4 adults and 6 children (ages 5 - 11 years old) and this trip worked perfectly for everyone. Plenty of time for activity, rest, workouts (in the gym) relaxation and fun.
This really was an extraordinary trip and experience. There might be an upswing in bookings with how many people I've told about Datura Villa since we've been home. :-)
All of us would love to return again sometime!
Family in Paradise
A truly beautiful Villa on 9 private acres. Expansive vistas and views from the 400' elevation location of the Villa. An excellent staff, superb Villa prepared dishes and daily dessert creations. Everything is well planned to make for seamless relaxation. The salt water pool and spa was a luxurious benefit. Do yourself, family and/or friends a favor, visit and stay at Datura Villa. Randel, the managing partner will guide you through one of the most memorable trips you'll ever take. Respectfully submiied. Dave D.
We spent the week after Christmas 2015 at Datura. It was our second visit to
Datura and it won't be our last. The villa staff makes the stay more than
just a vacation. You feel like you are among friends and that adds to your
Shereen's cooking is amazing. For those of you who like to "eat local,"
they've been doing this in Jamaica forever. We had crab, red snapper, conch
fritters and warm-water lobster, the lobsters being delivered fresh (and
still alive) to the villa. Shereen's homemade soups are perfection and we
loved all of the fresh fruits and vegetables. I'm not particularly a
dessert person, but I devoured each and every delight from Shereen; her
lemon cake is sublime.
Carole and Opie also spoiled us and kept us laughing the whole week. They
didn't mind the boys following them into the kitchen asking for another
beach towel/banana shakes or leaving dominoes and water glasses everywhere.
Henry showed us around the property and shared with us his vast Jamaican
horticultural knowledge. He organized a bonfire on NYE for the boys and
gladly chased off wasps. His laugh is very melodic!
What would we do without Chisholm? It was so good to spot his smiling face
at Sangster and know that our vacation was underway. He gladly took us back
to some favorite spots (Negril, the Yacht Club and Round Hill), and
introduced us to a new place: Lethe. Lethe ("LEE-tee") is about 20 minutes
"up the hill" in the heart of the Jamaican "jungle" and the site of a
zip-lining course. I was skeptical, but it was fun and the boys LOVED it.
The property itself is equally as fantastic as the staff. Bring binoculars,
as the one pair there isn't enough when there are six eager pairs of eyes
scanning Mo Bay from the house's spacious terrace. The rooms are
comfortable and Jamaican. You won't wake up in a generic hotel room; the
mahogany plantation shutters, hardwood floors and plaster walls add to the
atmosphere. If swimming and sunbathing isn't your thing, then rest assured
that there is enough space (and shade) to spread out and read or listen to
music. We read almost 10 books between the six of us! The hammock is
