Kailua: meaning “two waters,” was named for the two major lagoons, the Kawainui Lagoon and the Kaelepulu Lagoon, fed by freshwater tributaries off of the Koolau Mountains.

Water is the essence of Kailua. Kailua’s beaches (Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach) have always ranked among the most beautiful and tranquil in the world. This community remains one of the most desirable residential neighborhoods in Hawai’i.

Kailua is becoming a haven for local artists and the rejuvenation of the Hawaiian culture including several famous hula halau (dance troops).

Kailua Town is known for the wide variety of water sport and beach activities it offers, from large family picnics, to windsurfing or kayaking. Kailua is a place to enjoy the beach, and stay for the art galleries, specialty stores and collection of unique eateries that make it Windward Oahu’s destination for fun, sun and the arts.

It is home to a diverse population of approximately 50,000 in the central urban core with surrounding residential areas and is home to approximately 1,500 thriving small businesses. It’s a unique Hawaiian beach town with its beautiful protected beaches – picturesque and uncrowded – that is separated by the Oahu’s metropolitan Honolulu hub by an excellent and improved highway system.

Kailua is truly a natural beauty with its beaches, bays, mountains and wetlands.

About Thomas

My wife & I are love to travel the world but call Hawaii home. We've often stayed in vacation rentals when we travel and find the experience wonderful and exhilarating and a great way to experience a new city, new people and new culture! We have been vacation renting our properties on Oahu and Florida for almost a decade and our aim is to provide our guests the comforts of home and share with them a little piece of our life in Hawaii.

Why Thomas chose Coconut Grove

Kailua is a vibrant, ever-changing town filled with new and old. The home is centrally located to take advantage of all that Kailua has to offer.

Kailua Town

We had a wonderful time staying here. We were walking distance to many great little shops and restaurants. A short drive to the beach. Staying in a neighborhood made us feel like locals!

This was the best rental my wife, two kids and I had ever stayed at. First off, there is a great yard in the back with beautiful grass perfect for lounging. Complete with a grill and a healthy tree producing some of the biggest avocados I've ever seen. There is no need for AC with the trade winds blowing through the well ventilated house. Downtown isn't more than a short walk away and don't get me started on how convenient the washer/dryer proved to be. The house was very roomy and very well furnished. We will be back!

A great place to stay in Kailua

  • 5 of 5

The home was very comfortable and we really enjoyed our time here. When we arrived, we were so surprised by how much room the home provides. The full kitchen was well equipped and the washer/dryer invaluable. We enjoyed evenings on the deck and used the BBQ almost nightly. It is located in a very friendly neighborhood and the yard is beautiful although it felt less private with the 2-story homes in back. The location is walking distance to downtown shopping and restaurants, and for those more ambitious walkers, Kailua Beach which is also 5 minutes by car. It was the perfect home base for our active group with short drives to beaches, hiking, kayaking and hang gliding locations. What a great value!

Best Vacation Ever!

  • 5 of 5

The owner reached out to me to write a review because not only have I stayed in this property but I have also stayed in his other properties and dealt with him extensively in the past. Ever since staying at his North Shore property on our first trip, I have made sure to reach out to him first to see if he has any properties available during our stay in Hawaii because I would prefer to stay in any of his properties over anywhere else. Dealing with him has been very easy as he is funny and knowledgeable about the neighborhood and Oahu as a whole. His properties are very clean, well equipped and nicely furnished (none of that kitschy decor you find in other rentals) and are a great deal considering his comparatively low nightly rates. He is very accommodating - if we need to check in earlier or check out later, we just simply asked and if the timing works it's fine by him, he didn't even charge us extra to check out later. We got to enjoy being a part of Kailua while staying here because it truly is in a residential neighborhood. Quick walks to mom & pop restaurants and shops were so convenient and gave us such a unique experience and made us feel like we were residents. Got to know a few of our neighbors who were more than willing to give us suggestions on what to do and where to go in their lovely Kailua town. I only wish we could have stayed longer. But, rest assured, we will be calling Thomas once again to see if this or any of his other properties are available so we can plan on staying with him on our next trip to Hawaii. We trust him and he has done right by us.

Perfect Kailua home for laid-back vacation

  • 5 of 5

This property exceeded our expectations. My husband, son, daughter-in-law, and I spent the week between Christmas Day and New Year's Day in this 2/1 home. The home is spacious and comfortable, and on a corner lot in a neighborhood. We preferred that to a resort.

Thomas ensured the home was well-equipped and spotless when we arrived. Five minute walks into town was all we needed to take advantage of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and local shopping. We were short drives from several nice hikes. Incredible scenery is everywhere. Kailua Beach and its surrounding park are picturesque and are only 5 minutes by car from the house. We enjoyed lounging on the back deck in the mornings and evenings.

This property is an extraordinary value, and the owner's care and attention to details are apparent everywhere.
