About Kevin and Doreen Sinnett

Doreen and I are both native Annapolitans, growing up sailing, fishing, and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, MD. Married for 37 years, Doreen graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. Doreen, while juggling the schedules of our three active daughters, completed a successful career as a Registered Nurse. I was a career Naval Aviator, piloting the P-3 Orion patrol aircraft.

While serving at Naval Air Station Brunswick, ME, we fell in love with the beautiful Rangeley Lakes Region and in 1983 purchased an old camp on the west shore of Rangeley Lake in Oquossoc. In 2006, at the age of 50, we fulfilled our dream and retired to the lake.

I am a Registered Maine Guide (hunting, fishing, recreational), the Vice President of the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman’s Association, and a Director on the Rangeley Lakes Region Historical Society. We are active parishioners of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish, where Doreen volunteers as a Eucharistic Minister.

Kevin and Doreen Sinnett purchased this studio in 1983

Why Kevin and Doreen Sinnett chose Rangeley Lake

If you enjoy fresh-water fishing, boating and kayaking, hiking, bird-watching, or simply sitting in one of our lake-side Adirondacks watching a beautiful sunset, you will LOVE our little version of paradise.

Suite with a View

  • 4 of 5

We were very comfortable in Loon's Nest. The open area living/dining area was spacious and had what we needed to make easy meals. The bedroom was large, the bed comfortable and the closet roomy. The view of the lake was fantastic!!!! We only wish the weather had been a little warmer so we could have had a fire by the lake.

The only drawback was the dehumidifier, which was loud when running. We were able to turn it off at night at this time of year. If the weather had been warmer, it would have been nice to have the door open, but you can't do that with the humidifier needing to run constantly. Kevin and Doreen were very helpful with dining suggestions and places to see. When and if we get back to the Rangeley area, we would like to return to Loon's Nest.

Loon's Nest Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The rooms were immaculate, and the hosts were exceptionally accomadating. We enjoyed the canoeing , and on my evening kayaking tour I spotted a mother loon with her baby. The local country store made great regular and gluten-free pizza. I would highly recommend this home to my friends.

Beautiful setting, fantastic hosts

  • 4 of 5

We chose to stay in something more comfortable, after having camped in Rangeley last year. It was a good choice.

The suite is very comfortable and well-equipped. The view is fantastic, and Kevin and Doreen are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend doing Kevin's lake cruise, which is included free if you stay for 7 nights.

There were a couple of things which we didn't like. There is a dehumidifier which needs to run continuously, but we did turn it off at night. Because of this, you can't open the windows or leave the slider open. Also, the outdoor grill needs to be replaced or refurbished, since some of the burner igniters do not function, and I had to light them manually.

But these were minor irritants in the overall context of our stay, and we will definitely be back.

A wonderful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

The Loons Nest is a very comfortable place for a couple to stay. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They are a fountain of information about the area and want to make certain you enjoy your stay. They helped us with our every need. We enjoyed all the sightseeing, the Rangeley Sporting Heritage Museum and especially the sunset cruise of the lake available at the lakeside dock right in the front yard. We would recommend without reservation any of the facilities available at the Sinnett's.
