The Boat & Lighthouse, landmarks in the City of Sarasota since 1932, were built by boatbuilder Oliver Blackburn for captain Arthur Rowe.
Mr. Rowe was captain of John Ringling's yacht (Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota) and later captain of William Selby's yacht (Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota).
The Boat & Lighthouse got historical designation in 1984 from the City of Sarasota.
Totally renovated with modern amenities, appliances and WiFi, the Boathouse (build in the shape of a boat), is a comfortable 2BR / 2B home. Each level of the house has a BR and B. The two levels are separated by a 9 step spiral staircase. The upper level is also directly accessible by an outside staircase . The stern has a screened porch, the bow an unscreened porch, both accessible from the upstairs bedroom. The property is well maintained and the house is kept very clean.
Surrounded by beautiful oak trees and a private back yard with native plants the Boat & Lighthouse are part of the Gillespie Park Downtown neighborhood.
You can walk to Main Street with its restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and movie theater. You only have to cross the street to get to the Historic Downtown Village: colorful renovated historic houses converted to art galleries, a restaurant and unique shops.
Grocery shops are close by and the Beach is only 10 minutes away by car.
The Boat & Lighthouse represent a part of Sarasota's history we're very proud of and would like to share.

About the owner: Diana and Elwin grew up in Suriname/South America, lived for many years in Amsterdam/The Netherlands. We've lived in many cities in different countries but have been calling Sarasota home for 21 years. We love the beautiful natural setting of Downtown on the bay and Sarasota's pristine beaches. We both love Nature and created our own Nature Sanctuary in our back yard. We love our Gillespie Park neighborhood with lovely old cottages, a lot of them being restored now. We are interested in different cultures and meeting people with diverse backgrounds. Elwin enjoys exercising and walking, loves to work in the yard and keeps up with everything changing and new in our neighborhood and the City of Sarasota. Diana likes to keep up with the latest movies, enjoys reading and contributes to maintenance of the Boathouse. When inspiration hits we also like to take decorating the interior of our home to a higher level.
