Why Rick & Kathi Anderson chose Smoky Mountains

The Appalachian mountains have been home to our ancestors since the early 1700's. Stars aligned for us, the mountains called, and we arrived! There is no better place on earth to live than here, in the mountains of North Carolina. This area has everything you could possibly want: Folk school, artists, fishing, kayaking, white water rafting, golfing, hiking of the A.T., antique stores, concerts, festivals, wineries, waterfalls & fine dining. You just can't beat the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains!!

What makes this cottage unique

'Mountain Jewel' is a private home but it's not remote. It lies in the heart of the Appalachians in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is a darling home in the woods, with an abundance of wildlife (deer, turkey, Pileated woodpeckers....all enjoyed from our kitchen window!). The home is very peaceful & our property is quiet. Bring the kids, bring yourself, come & rejuvenate!

HAS EVERYTHING IN A SMALL PACKAGE!!

  • 5 of 5

WHEN I BOOKED THIS CABIN, I WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS. NOW I HAVE BOOKED IT AGAIN FOR 2 MORE TIMES. IT IS SMALL, BUT HAS EVERYTHING I NEEDED. I WAS ATTENDING CLASSES AT JOHN C CAMPBELL FOLK SCHOOL, AND IT WAS AN EASY DRIVE TO AND FROM THE SCHOOL. THE OUTSIDE PORCH ALSO PROVIDED A PERFECT PLACE TO WORK ON PROJECTS, AND ENJOY THE SOUNDS, AND FRESH AIR. CAN'T WAIT TO STAY THERE AGAIN IN THE SPRING.

Owner's Response: Close proximity to JCCFS was the number one reason for our purchase of this home. It is indeed a mighty lil' package of a house & the bonus is the fresh air, outdoor living space & quiet. Rick & Kathi

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful and so clean and organized. We enjoyed the tranquility of the woods, yet, you are close enough to Murphy, 10 minutes, when you need to run into town. My dog even had a doggie door on the screened porch to get in and out of to use the bathroom. These are great owners to work with. They respond quickly and make sure you are going to be comfortable at their home.

Owner's Response: Tranquility, cleanliness & doggie doors...what more could one ask for ?! So happy the home was perfect for you. It's unfortunate we didn't get the snowfall you had hoped for. We hope to have you back in the future. Rick & Kathi

Cozy Cabin Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here. So many things to do and see and so many wonderful restaurants nearby too. Easy commute to Hiawassee, Blairsville, Blue Ridge and Murphy. We were able to contact the owner easily before arrival and after. It is a very quiet homelike cabin with everything you could need. Our fur babies enjoyed the fenced in yard that they could be turned out into with no worries of straying to far away. The road access getting to this place was great as well. Some places you rent in the mountains you find out to late that you really need four wheel drive to get to it. That was not the case here. Just far enough off the main road to be quiet and relaxing. Loved it!

Owner's Response: We have tried diligently to stock the house with many items to make the stay easier on our guests. Our driveway is long but level and we clean it every Fall to keep it cleared of leaves and limbs. The fenced in yard is wonderful for the fur babies. We too have a fur baby that loves the yard and we have no worries when he's in it. We're thrilled you had a wonderful stay and we hope to have you back again in the future. Rick & Kathi

We stayed at Mountain Jewel over the Thanksgiving Holiday's. Our stay was perfect. The house was very clean and accommodating. We found 2 hikes within 25 miles that were excellent. The house had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We will definitely consider coming back. Thanks!
