About the property

Bedrooms 2, Bathroom 1, Sleeps 4

“Come-Stay” at the Grey Gull . Relax in our charming serene cottage. Enjoy majestic views of the Maine water front on which sit not one, but two, cottages of similar construction and unique styles. Behind the Grey Gull, there is additional lodging upstairs in the garage apartment that offers amazing views of the water in a tree house like setting. The Grey Gull is a modified Cape located in Gouldsboro in the Acadia region. It offers seclusion, sweeping views, stunning sunrises and everything you need to enjoy your seaside vacation. When you turn into the beach rose lined gravel drive, the water greets you and is only 30 feet from the properties. Built in 1950, this cottage sleeps four comfortably. The garage apartment provides space for two people. The Gull is separated from the Blue Loon cottage by a fun scalloped fence.

The Gull’s simple furnishings give it a clean feel, top to bottom.

The kitchen is both fun and functional. There is a charming breakfast nook overlooking the water, a farmhouse sink and dishwasher. The living room looks out to sweeping long views of the water. The sofa is comfy in front of the gas stone hearth fireplace. A great spot to pick up the binoculars and do a little bird watching.

On ground level there is also a napping room with a day bed for a afternoon snooze. Upstairs are two loft bedrooms each with double beds . The screened front porch brings the ocean air in and is a beautiful spot to watch lobster boats check traps, wildlife and watch the sea weed boats go out to gather sea weed.

In an adjacent lot beside the Grey Gull is the Blue Loon. This charming cottage also sleeps four but is more contemporary than the shabby-chic charm of the Gull. Wicker furniture accents the living room, as does a gas wood stove. Pristine water views can be enjoyed from the comfy furnishings. In the kitchen, you will find a retro table and chairs, stainless steel sink and granite counter tops. There is a full-sized bedroom on the lower level. Upstairs there is a lovely little reading room and a separate bedroom with a double bed. The screened front porch offers grand views of the water and wildlife and a very nice spot to enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful spot!

Both cottages are private, but also close to sightseeing and located less than one mile from a county-maintained boat launch. An explorer can launch one of our kayaks or a canoe into water at the cottages or at the county maintained boat launch less than a mile from the cottages. The pink granite shoreline at low tide is a great way to check out the sea life just beneath the rocks and sea weed. Or, enjoy a stroll to the bait shack and relax with your book at the picnic table that is on the long wharf overlooking the water.

Take a leisurely walk down the road and enjoy the fragrance of spruce and cedar. Activities in the Schoodic Peninsula villages of Prospect Harbor, Corea and Winter Harbor are a mere 15 minutes away as is stunningly beautiful Schoodic Loop Drive Park. Bar Harbor is less than an hour’s drive, but nearby Ellsworth(about 22 miles) offers shopping in some big box stores. Don’t miss John Edwards Market on Main Street to find organic groceries and a great wine selection …Summer events take place at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. Grindstone Neck public golf course (also in Winter Harbor), pubs, dining and Bartlett Maine Estate Winery and Catherine Hill Winery are nearby.

The town of Milbridge is about 14 miles north on US 1. Milbridge has a nice grocery store , a pharmacy, banks, dentist, doctors, and several nice restaurants…There is a great Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings in the Camden National bank parking lot.

We are pleased to offer our guests 10% off on all purchases at our specialty gift and accessories store, Riverlily. We are close by in the sweet little town of Cherryfield. (find us on Facebook or theriverlily)

Whether at the cottages, or out and about, here you will feel worlds away from the hustle bustle of a busy life… So, “Come-Stay!”

About Jeff Or Pj Trowell

We bought this beautiful property about 10 years ago and have been working on it ever since...Lots of care and planning went into "saving" these little cottages...They were in pretty bad shape when we purchased them. We spent weeks (when we could) working on them. We built the garage apartment first so we could have a nice clean place to kick back after working on the cottages all day.

Why Jeff Or Pj Trowell chose Acadia

this property is very special. It is away from all hustle and bustle. The views from the cottage are just so amazing...a great place to unwind.

What makes this cottage unique

You can't get closer to the water! Beautiful sunrises! Lobster boats and seaweed boats cruise right out in your "front yard"!!!

Outstanding Cottage by the Sea - our most favorite spot ever in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

Dear PJ and Jeff,

A simple thank you doesn't seem adequate to express our appreciation for welcoming Mom and me to the Grey Gull this week! Being our third visit to Maine, we are always very particular to choose just the right property to spend our yearly mother and daughter trip, and your quaint peaceful and tranquil cottage by the sea exceeded all our expectations. You both ensured every detail of our stay was generously attended to, you went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to have an enjoyable and comfortable trip. We can't help but feel blessed to have enjoyed your little slice of paradise, and we will always treasure this trip with fond and loving memories - thank you again for your kind hospitality, your generous hearts and every way, both great and small, you made Grey Gull our home away from home this week. We return home abundantly full with happy and grateful hearts!

For anyone seeking heaven by the sea - visit Grey Gull - you'll have the time of your life - you have our wholehearted recommendation!

Thanks again, PJ and Jeff!

PERFECT GETAWAY - Cozy Cottage on the Bay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week at Grey Gull cottage this month and had a wonderful experience. Everything written in the other reviews is spot on. Jeff and PJ were wonderful hosts - even providing fresh vegetables from the garden and some homemade blueberry jam.

The cottage is right next to the bay with water views from every room. We really enjoyed the quiet of Gouldsboro - away from the crowds in Bar Harbor - but close enough to visit. We did go to Bar Harbor and the main section of Acadia NP on Mount Dessert Island a few times - but also really enjoyed the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia NP and ventured north a bit as well (and took a really nice hike at Roque Bluffs State Park).

The cottage was perfect with every detail thought through. The kitchen had everything that you need and there was even a washer and dryer available. We hope to come back to the Maine coast and will stay at Grey Gull again if we do.

Thanks Jeff & PJ for creating this wonderful retreat and for sharing it with us.

Outstanding

  • 5 of 5

I sincerely recommend staying here - had we of had more time we would have stayed a month.

Owners are fantastic, and I don't think we could have found a better ocean view from our kitchen had we searched for a year. Will definitely stay here again, only a question of when I can get some more time off of work.

Clean, Comfortable, Away from the Crowds Location

  • 5 of 5

My family of four (including 18 & 13 yr. old daughters) had plenty of room to relax after a long day of exploration. Clean and comfortable. Plenty of cookware/utensils to make easy meals in the evening…because Mom is on vacation too!! Cottage equipped with great little propane grill, which we used. No A/C in cottage…stand-alone units in upstairs bedrooms. We used them once or twice to cool down the upstairs before bed but did not need to keep them running. Other than that, the windows were kept open and nature provided the very comfortable temps. Used the fireplace for two evenings due to cool/cloudy/misty weather…a much welcomed change for these Southerners now roasting in a balmy 100 degrees!! Access to nice washer/dryer. Cottage is approx. 10 min. to small grocery store with coffee shop in Milbridge or approx. 25 min. to Ellsworth for big box stores. Approx. 40 min to Bar Harbor/Acadia depending on traffic. We stayed the week of July 4th...Acadia was very crowded...use the bus system, parking is in short supply. If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet, away-from-it-all location…you found it!! Played on the rocky shoreline in the backyard, searched for sea glass, took walks in the evening. We kayak quite a bit at home so were glad to use the very nice Wilderness System kayaks/PFD to explore the bay outside the cottage. There is also a canoe available. Can’t say enough about our hosts Jeff and PJ. They live on the property and are a text away if you need anything or have a question. Our family loves the outdoors and this location did not disappoint. Even saw two bald eagles right outside the cottage...what a bonus. Thank you Jeff and PJ for sharing this gem!!!
