About Richard Shea

In Boston most of the time now. I used to live in the house. I book only two persons maximum per unit.

Richard Shea purchased this house in 2000

Why Richard Shea chose Kapoho

This is a clean, quiet, budget rental at price much lower than adjacent or nearby vacation rentals. Interior was repainted and redecorated in May 2016. Very few rentals in the area have as good a view or location. A great deal considering view and location. The house is a side by side duplex. Two guests will sleep in the pictured unit; if there are three or four guests, both units are rented to you and joined by a common door on the lanai. The units are entirely private, with separate staircases and entrances on on opposite sides of carport. Well insulated, no loud music or parties allowed. If you want to book both units, they can be joined by opening the locked door between the lanais (decks). Other unit is shown in VRBO listing 786384.

What makes this house unique

Snorkeling and swimming across the street in the Waiopae Tidepools, a marine sanctuary. Awesome ocean and tidepools view from the house.

Turtle peace on the Ocean

  • 5 of 5

We swam with the turtles , dolphins and fish while enjoying the sun rises and sets along with some wild winds and rain all magical and truly in the elements of Hawaii.

Richard thank you for your place it was peaceful well setup and throughly enjoyed.

This location offers the safest and largest selection of snorkelling on the island that I have seen to date. Aloha

Adore this view spot and location.

  • 5 of 5

This is just the best little perch tucked next to the Marine Reserve, which is a wondrous place to explore. The access and view are totally awesome. This is also our favorite part of the Big Island, and don't miss the drive south down the coast -- and at the very end are: Uncle Robert's Wednesday night farmer's market, which is really a wonderful huge party with food and drink, dancing, and aspects of traditional Hawaiian culture, and the Bike/Hike tours to the flowing lava!! A special spot

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood and with the best snorkelling spot that we found on the island. Great views of the ocean and tidepools. This is a special part of the island and after travelling right around the island, we are so happy to have spent our entire ten days holiday in this house. Lots of thoughtful bits and pieces in the house to make the holiday feel like a home away from home.

Thanks very much for the chance to stay at Kapaho!

Best trip to the big island so far

  • 5 of 5

We have been to the big island three times and have enjoyed them all, but so far this was the best. It's paradise at your door step. The Kapoho tide pools are literally across the street. Space is spacious, clean and very comfortable. 18 minutes to Pahoa and 25 minutes to Uncle Robert's.

Amazing position, and perfect size!

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed here twice now and both times it has been beautiful. The place is a generously spaced single bedroom and the balcony overlooking the ocean is amazing!

Kapoho Tidepools across the street
Car: necessary

The eastern tip of the Big Island is unique in Hawaii. Nearby active volcanic eruption has created coastal lava landscapes, lined with tropical forest. Undeveloped beautiful area with miles of hiking along the coast and drives through tropical forest.

The rental is located across street from Kapoho Tidepools Waiopae Marine Sanctuary. You are steps from the best snorkeling in East Hawaii. Great ocean views and sunrises, from the lanai or cross the street and sit by the tidepools. The front room of the unit also offer a wide ocean view through sliding glass doors.
