Come and experience a part of Massachusetts that our family has been enjoying for generations!
Now in the third generation; our 'Salters' home has been and remains near and dear to us. It has been a gathering place for our large expanding family. Grandchildren, nieces and nephews flock each summer to get their fill of cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family. Some renters have dubbed this special place 'the happy house'; we hope you feel the same.
Because this is a summer community, we ask that no weddings, rehearsal dinners, large reunions or the like be held here at our house.

We have been holding yearly reunions for the past 21 years and this one was by far one of the best. The age range was from 4 to 78 and this wonderful family home and Salters Point suited all of our needs. We rarely left except to visit the Whaling Museum in New Bedford. A favorite for everyone was the wraparound porch and the yard was perfect for all kinds of games. The beach, too, allowed for the little ones to be close to shore, use their floats and for the more adventurous to jump off the dock. The beds were comfortable, kitchen definitely workable and the house and its history, most enjoyable.
This home was an excellent home away from home during a weekend Wedding excursion for our extended family of 15. Sunrise and sunset views are breathtaking. Everything needed for preparing family/group meals, except the food, of course. It was very spacious with ample breakout areas for those with different interests. The fireplaces provided the heat needed for chilly nights, and... for those who are direction-challenged, GPS takes you right to the door!
This home was perfect for our extended family of 15! It fit all of us comfortably and the location was excellent. The view is breathtaking and we lucked out with some great weather. It has a lot of "beach cottage" charm and is very fitting with the area. We hope to return to this Happy Home in the years to come!
I stayed with my extended family with ages ranging from 5-75 and everyone had a great time. The front porch is magnetic and you won't want to leave. The beach is great for little kids, the diving from the platform and dock is great for big kids and adults. The neighbors were very friendly and helpful with advice about the neighborhood and region. We had a great time.
If you are looking to get away from it all and simply shut down for a week, this is the place. No need to go anywhere. The views are spectacular from everywhere. Reading on the front porch with the ocean breezes keeping you cool or simply strolling in the neighborhood and taking in the sights, Salter's Point is the epitome of relaxation. Great for kids and adults alike. Kids can go to beach, play tennis or fish off the dock with no worries about them getting in to traffic or trouble. If you want to explore further, the quaint New England towns of Westport, tiverton, Little Compton, etc are all nearby.
Owners are very attentive and willing to do what they have to in order for your stay to be enjoyable.
Photos on Home Away are very accurate of the property. It is an old beach house, but full of character and charm. The photos however do not do the views justice at all. Unobstructed views of Buzzards Bay, the Elizabeth Islands and Falmouth are spectacular. This is truly a unique and very New England summer experience.
Within the gated community of Salters Point are 2 beautiful sandy beaches (Pier Beach and South Beach), 2 clay and 1 hard tennis court, a 7 hole casual golf course, swimming and tennis lessons, community center, organized children and adult activities and playground equipment. The New Bedford Whaling Museum is world renowned, but don’t pass up walking/hiking/exploring the DNRT trails nearby. There is a wonderful library in town which provides museum passes to local spots as well as Boston and Providence. Whale watching, fishing cruises, nurseries, vineyards, breweries, ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard and so much more are all available nearby.
