About Kathy Guy

We live in Atlanta as do our three married daughters and 6 grandchildren. Golf, biking, tennis, swimming and the beach are a top priority for all of us, from oldest to youngest

Kathy Guy purchased this house in 2002

Why Kathy Guy chose West Beach

We have vacationed at Kiawah since moving to Atlanta from the Northeast and our girls were little so when we decided to buy a beach house, Kiawah was the place! We wanted our grandchildren to experience all the fun and wonder that is Kiawah....the freedom to bike the island, wander the beautiful beach, check out the dolphins, alligators, deer, turtles, and yes, bobcats! Catch fish, amass a fantastic shell collection, conquer the ocean, make sand castles, be a kid...

Wonderful spacious house close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful house - spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. It is located 5 minutes (walk) from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. We arrived shortly after Hurricane Irma - so for several days I had been in close contact with the owner who was kind, supportive and very helpful. I would gladly recommend it for groups of old friends (like ours) or for extended families with children.

Amazing house for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

This house was just perfect for our group of 8 gals. The rooms are so spacious and the layout is terrific. The location is so convenient and it is just a short walk to the beach. We rented bikes the whole time we were there and loved riding on the bike paths and the beach. The home is decorated beautifully and the kitchen was very well stocked. The pictures were very accurate and the property was very clean and well maintained. Kathy was fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful home to vacation in Kiawah.

Perfect for Family Togetherness

  • 5 of 5

We were returning to Kiawah after a hiatus of about 10 years with anticipation of reliving fond memories in a relaxed atmosphere. We were not disappointed! I was a little unsure as to how our crew of 3 families with a single adult, two children and a 1 year old who had never been together under one roof would get along, but much to my delight, the house provided the perfect blend of private spaces and a gathering area for us to be together. The kids, who had never been in a two story house loved the loft upstairs with mom and dad's retreat adjoining. We had a mini-crisis to start, with concern that the 1-year old who was used to his own space would not be able to sleep in the same room with mom and dad. But that was solved by putting the family in the Master bedroom that had a closet big enough to function as a nursery. We were prepared ahead of time with an allen wrench set for bicycle adjustments which we used to disassemble the crib upstairs and move it into junior's new digs in the master suite. Having private access to a bathroom (which all of the five sleeping spaces do) was super convenient. The combined dining/living area open to the kitchen always felt comfortable and accommodating, never crowded. The separate cooler for drinks was very handy. We had some heavy rainfall at night and the screened in porch adjoining the main living area was a very pleasant place to relax and enjoy the weather. When we were initially considering places to stay, we considered some fancier places. After staying here we realized that this home away from home was just right for us. Fancier digs would not have added anything the enjoyment we had together. The house is on a short dead-end street and although houses appear close together, it never impacted your sense of having your own private retreat. We were so glad to be so close to the beach (a short walk or bike ride down a paved trail). It gave us the freedom of just getting up to take a short dip in the ocean without having to feel like you had to hassle with packing things for an extended stay at a distance from home base. Hot water in the outside shower was nice for rinsing off the beach sand and salt water. Bike trails that will take you all over the island were a highlight for us. We never got to see the whole island even though we went on excursion hours in length. I recommend that you get a map of the island that shows the trails (there was one at the house for us). We will be back!

Perfect Family House! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

This Kiawah home was absolutely perfect for our family vacation. We loved just about everything during our one week stay.

The house is huge and perfect for multiple groups or a few families staying together. We had the kids upstairs, which had two twin beds and a queen and a shared bathroom. All three bedrooms downstairs have their own bathroom as well. It was great because we could put the kids down and hangout just the adults downstairs. One minor critique was I felt the master bedroom could probably use a new mattress. It seemed a little worn.

We cooked most our meals at the house and the kitchen was fully stocked. It had every bowl, tool, etc I needed which was great!

The location is GREAT! It is probably a 4-5 minute walk. My 22 month old was able to walk it just to give you an idea how close it is. (While he loved walking it, the wagon at the house was also used!)

The house also comes stocked with stuff for kids. We loved having a crib, beach toys and a wagon. It rained quite a bit during our stay and we were able to play some of the board games as well. One thing to note - the house has lots of beach chairs but they were not the best quality. It was fine for us because we had four adults but if you had more than four adults, not everyone would have a good beach chair. It probably would be worth renting some better chairs.

We loved the screened in porch. We used it for every meal and enjoy listening to the birds and even seeing some deer. There are herbs and flowers growing in the backyard, which are also very nice.

The house is super close to the island entrance so you can bike to all the main attractions. We biked to Freshfields, the Straw Market, Night Heron Park and the Sanctuary. The house is a stone throw away from the bike path.

Finally, Kathy was absolutely great to work with. She was so responsive and kind. Our flight changed and I asked if we could have an earlier check in. She chatted with the cleaning crew and since we went during off season, they were able to accommodate. So appreciated!! She even offered us an extra complimentary night because we were hit with so much rain during our stay. (We were so bummed we couldn't change our flight to take her up on her offer!)

All in all, Kiawah is one of my favorite places in the world and this house was a perfect place for our family to stay. I hope to be back next year!!!!
