Why Kathy Steffan chose New Braunfels

We chose this property because of the two rivers - the Comal and Guadalupe, Landa Park with the streams running through it, delightful restaurants, the I 35 corridor, Texas Hill Country, Wurstfest, Brauntex Theater, Luckenback, Fredericksburg, Austin music scene, San Marcos, San Antonio Alamo and River Walk, Kerrville Folk Festival, and Schlitterbahn. There is so much to do in New Braunfels.

What makes this house unique

We love the Victorian style of the home along with the high ceilings, leaded glass windows, and transom windows. It is an easy walk to Schlitterbahn. The home is in a quiet residential block with great neighbors. We especially like the Texas hospitality.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this gingerbread house. With three rooms and two baths, it was perfect for the six of us. Schlitterbahn was an easy, short walk to get to and the kids loved all the little knick knacks in this sweet home. Kathy is a great host. She even called to make sure we made it in safe from our long drive. We will stay here again. :)

Owner's Response: It is always heartening to receive such a wonderful review from our guests. Since this home is our Winter Texan home, we prize it greatly and want others to enjoy it the way we do. Being able to walk to the best Natural Water Park in the world, the Schlitterbahn, was one reason we decided this property worked so well for us. We are in our sixties, have children and grandchildren, and we wanted our family to enjoy all the wonderful activities available in New Braunfels. Kathy Steffan, is the most wonderful, caring gal who puts our home in front of the public. We are most grateful for her sincerity and professional management of The Austin Haus.

Comfortable cottage with a good location

  • 5 of 5

My wife, son and I stayed at the Austin Haus for three nights. Everything was as advertised. We really liked the location because it was close to downtown NB as well as Gruene. It was on a quiet street as was a very relaxing stay. The next time we stay in NB we will certainly see if this property is available. Thanks for everything, Kathy.

Wonderful Quaint Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Austin Street Haus! Everything was perfect. It was immaculate and very homey. I loved all the décor. So much charm and personality. I didn't want to leave. Kathy was a great host and even recommended someone to do my hair (and it was perfect). We definitely will be back next time we visit New Braunfels! Also, the deer were amazing to watch!!

Loved it and will absolutely stay again!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Austin Street Haus. We booked this home for our family vacation in New Braunfels for its close proximity to Schlitterbahn; it was nice to be just minutes from the park in the mornings and evenings, and to be able to go back to the house each day for lunch. The house is well cared for and very clean. We will definitely book Austin Street Haus again for future New Braunfels vacations.

Owner's Response: It is always so nice when my guests appreciate the efforts that are made to provide a beautiful and clean home. I'm so glad that these guests were able to take advantage of the home's close proximity to Schlitterbahn. The waterpark is so much more enjoyable when you can come and go to rest and eat. I will look forward to having this family back for their next vacation.

There are so many things to see and do in New Braunfels and the surrounding area. From your front door, you are at the entrance of Schlitterbahn waterpark or at the entrance of the Tube Chute of the Comal River after a short 4 block walk. The walk downtown is about .5 miles. While downtown be sure to visit Henne Hardware, the oldest hardware store in Texas and Naegelin's Bakery, the oldest bakery in Texas. There are also a number of unique shops, the historical Sophienburg and children's museums, taverns, and restaurants downtown. Take the children to Landa Park to ride the miniature train through the park, for a picnic, to hike through Panther Canyon, to visit the Founder's Oak that dates back to the 1700s, to swim in the springfed swimming pool, and to hear a summer evening concert at the dance slab. Visit Gruene Hall, the oldest dancehall in Texas, to listen to live music and see where legends like George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and Willie Nelson got started. While in Gruene, visit the General Store and other unique shops, music venues, and restaurants. Take the scenic drive up River Road to Canyon Lake for horseback riding, hiking, and water sports. Plan to spend a day at the San Marcos outlet stores. Natural Bridge Caverns is a short drive away for a day of spelunking. San Antonio is a short drive away to visit the Alamo, River Walk, and Seaworld. Austin is another short drive away to visit the Capitol building, 6th Street and the surrounding area to learn why it is known as the 'Live Music Capitol of the World.' New Braunfels sponsors 'Wurstfest' each year along with many other festivals. You are in the ideal location to enjoy local activities as well as those in the nearby hill country area.
