3 bedroom, 2 bathroom on the River
About Rebecca Kickham
I am one of three grandchildren who currently run Nanny's Cabin. We have enjoyed it for over 30 years and have a lot of great information to share of things to do and places to see in the area.
Rebecca Kickham purchased this Cabin in 1983
Why Rebecca Kickham chose Newland
Location. Location. Location. Our Grandmother, Nanny, fell in love with the property and designed her dream cabin. The property is great with two trails from the back door to a river that runs behind the cabin. It is the last cabin on a dead end road which ends on a lake. The view across the lake to the clubhouse and pavillion are amazing. Land Harbor is a resort community with numerous things to do including: hiking trails, clubhouse, beach, pool, pavillion with fire pits and grills, canoe/small boat ramp, golf course, children's pond, and much more. This cabin is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and close to many area attractions, including: Linville falls, Grandfather mountain, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, Beech Mountain Ski Resort, Blowing Rock, Boone, Hawksnest Ski Resort, Linville Cavern, Tweetsie railroad, and many more.
What makes this Cabin unique
It has a unique Swiss cabin appeal surrounded by woods. The antique pot belly stove brings a great feel to the inside.

Cozy & Comfortable
The cabin offered everything that my husband and I needed. It was more than enough room, but we knew that when we rented it. It had a second floor that we never used. On the main floor we slept in one room and used the other room for suitcases/clothes. If there had been more people, we would have been comfortable in the one room.
The kitchen had everything we needed. We bought essentials at the grocery store nearby. (Stocked frig with food and bought paper products). The main floor bathroom was clean and supplied with plenty of towels for the week. We never used the basement bathroom, but appeared to be almost identical to the other one.
We loved having the fireplace. We used it daily as this time of year is cool. It was anywhere from low 20’s to mid 40’s. We have been visiting this area for many years and the hiking is exceptional. Linville Land Harbor is close to many hiking trails, but also other activities. There are several ski resorts that also offer snow tubing. The community also has its own trails. The cabin is next to the lake and stream. You can hear the noise of the dam at the cabin. We would definitely rent this cabin again. Great location and comfortable. Next time we come, we hope to bring some family with us.
Thank you for your review! Loved reading this. We'd love to have you back anytime
We are in love with this place. Everything is so close , the cabin so warm. In the kids cave you have to let the door open and the heater in high so it warm up and then you are all set. Honestly the perfect place. For sure we are coming back. Thank youuuuu!!
Love this review! Thank you so much! We'd love for you to return!
Great property and great location close to everything
The property is in a great location and centrally located. It needs a little bit of TLC as some of the appliances are out-dated and not working properly. HOWEVER, the owner, Rebecca, is very attentive, hands-on, and will immediately assist (whether it is by contacting a person or ordering a quick Amazon shipment to replace a non-working appliance). It is the owner's availability and attention to detail that make the stay extra special.
Cute house with all that you need
We enjoyed our time in this cozy cabin in the wintertime (family of four). Good location. 5 min drive north to ski places, 15 min south to Linville Falls and other good hiking places. 15 min west to Newland with good grocery store. We appreciated the excellent internet, non-kitschy decoration, comfy couch and beds., wood burning stove and heaters to keep the place toasty warm.
Nice location, nice cottage
Close to Grand Father Mountain and Linville Falls and caverns. Nice scenic drive to Boone.
The cottage is at the end of a road, so there is almost no traffic. It is near a nice dam, so you get a calming sound of water flowing over it into the stream that runs behind the cabin.
We had one "minor" issue with the 2 heavy days of rain, thanks to rain bands from hurricane Michael. Rebecca addressed the issue and had someone there to deal with it quickly. She stayed in touch and made sure everything was handled to our satisfaction. We were very satisfied with how she and her team reacted and with their plans to ensure no one else has this problem.
I recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice quiet escape to the mountains.
Thank you so much!! Such a great review
An adorable cabin nestled in the woods. A home away from home! Owners were super nice and quick to respond!
