About Escapia

Hello! Thanks for looking at the Mountaincrest Retreat, my pride and joy! After leaving my 8 year career as a mechanical engineer in the medical products industry in the spring of 2011, I took on the monumental task of renovating my home in the hopes of creating Flagstaff's best vacation property. It turned out to be a huge success, and a few years later I purchased the Mountaincrest Retreat to help me share Flagstaff with even more people. I love that I'm able to share my properties with so many people and help my guests have the perfect vacation. I can't think of a better job to have!

When I'm not booking stays or meeting my guests as they arrive, I spend as much of my time as I can outdoors! I grew up on the coast of Maine where I learned to appreciate nature's beauty, and nowhere is better than Flagstaff to experience it. I love to mountain bike, hike, camp, and most of all ski/snowboard! There isn't a season I don't love here in Flagstaff, and I always look forward to the change in weather as that means that I get to change activities along with it! Escapia purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Escapia chose Canyon Country & Northeast

Flagstaff is a wonderful town with so many things to see and do, it is a natural playground for any outdoor enthusiast. There is also so much history here, with all of the Rt 66 attractions, and ancient native american sites. I think Flagstaff has the best scenery, friendliest atmosphere, and healthiest lifestyle of anyplace I've lived...what more could you ask for?

What makes this cabin unique

I absolutely love staying at the Mountaincrest Retreat for so many reasons. I love the peace and quiet that the neighborhood offers, and think there is nothing better than sitting on the couch with a fire burning in the fireplace watching the snow come down outside.

I love being so close to everything, yet having the serenity that the house offers. It is wonderful spending an evening in Flagstaff's bustling downtown and within minutes coming home to complete peace and quiet.

Waking up in the morning and riding my bike to the Campbell Mesa trail head without ever having to get in a car is my favorite way to start the day. The trails are beautiful, and there is so much wildlife to see. The views overlooking Walnut Canyon are incredible, with elk, deer, and birds along the way.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved this rental. We couldn't believe how spacious it was. I fell in love with the kitchen as soon as I walked in the front door. I'm glad we picked this location for our last minute honeymoon getaway. We hope to visit again with family!

This house was perfect for our needs. Each bedroom has plenty of space and nice accommodations for adults. The room with the bunk beds was perfect for the kids to hang out and enjoy their space. We were never on top of each other. There is a very nice patio with plenty of seating for all.

Larger families this is the place!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate and well appointed home. Large family room with gas fireplace and plenty of seating. Enough bedrooms for all. Master suite fantastic with gas fireplace, sitting area walk in shower super closet. Kitchen has everything for family meals. Kids room !!!!!!

With steeps steps not for those mobility issues. Flagstaff a great central location. Our first experience with home rental instead of hotel. Would certainly do it again.

Beautiful, well-appointed and spacious home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a long weekend: there were four adult couples, and the house had enough bedrooms with King size beds to sleep all of us in comfort, and with room to spare.

Everything inside was very clean, the linens and towels were crisp, the dishes sparkling.

It is located in a quiet residential community, and we could sleep peacefully, enjoying the crisp fresh mountain air. The house was also well stocked with paper goods and even coffee and snacks.

The owner was very friendly, responding to all our inquiries right away. This was an excellent vacation experience: luxurious and relaxing.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

  • 5 of 5

The Good: Spacious, well appointed, extremely clean and with attention to detail. The only thing missing was sugar for our coffee, which we promptly sent the husbands to the very close shopping center. As you walk in, you'll see a big dining table and big comfy couches where the whole family can gather, even though mine preferred the beautiful kitchen with the wonderful view of the back terrace. While having our coffee, 4 deer came through the back yard and regaled the kids with a wonderful entertainment. All the beds were impeccably made and we had to rush before all the children ate the chocolate that was left on the pillows. Plenty of very comfortable bathrooms with plenty of towels for everyone. Everyone had access to wi-fi but the place was so good that we barely used electronics in favor of bonding with the family.

The Bad

As with any vacation home rental, remember to bring enough soap and your own toiletries. They provided some shampoo and shower gel but always remember that this is after all, not a hotel.

When you walk in through the garage, you will encounter the longest stairs you've seen. They seem that way because you've been on the road with the whole family and are carrying several bags. In high altitude, you'll soon realize how out of shape you really are!

The Ugly:

Unless you drive an SUV, don't expect to be able to leave your car in the driveway, that is, if you don't want to damage the undercarriage of your car. That said, the street is so quiet that we left 2 of the cars in the curb (one with a window opened!!!) and they were perfectly fine the next day.

We were 3 families coming over to see our son perform in a play at NAU. We all had plenty of space to be alone, or together. Everyone, from the 3 year old to the 65 year old (and even the 4 teenagers in the group) asked me why didn't we planned this trip so we could at least stay one more day. We will definitively stay again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your stay and for such a detailed review!! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and this beautifully appointed home. The driveway can sure be steep but is easy to manage when it's not snowy. I hope that the bathrooms and toiletries were well stocked for your stay. We provide all of the shampoo, body wash, hand soap, toiletries and linens that most guests need and I think that we are much better stocked than a hotel! Of course if anything wasn't well stocked our full time guest services staff are always available to make things right. We are thrilled that you had a great time in this beautiful home and I hope you'll consider us for your next stay in Northern Arizona!!
