Built in 1930, this magnificent brick country house, set on a lake in historic Tuxedo Park is 4000 square feet large with five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. On the main floor, besides the fully equipped modern kitchen, there is an elegant dining room facing the lake with high ceilings and large bay windows, an original wood paneled living room with a Louis XVI fireplace and a family room with a large screen TV and a wet bar.
This was by far the worst VRBO that I have every rented!: 1)When contacting the Owner a few days prior to arrival I was informed that I would be charged extra because I had guests in all 6 rooms. I asked why I would rent a 6 bedroom house if I was not intent on using all space advertised in listing. 2) The air conditioning did not work on the main floor, so we had to open the doors to allow enough air into the house to be able to sit and visit comfortably. 3) the rooms had musty odor and one of the bath tubs had massive rust stain in the bathtub and no shower curtain. Another room had what looked like blood stains on the bed sheets and all rooms had clothing in the closets that made you think you were really imposing in some ones house. 4) The kitchen lighting did not work except for a few small bulbs under the cabinets and we were informed that the contents left in the refrigerator were off limits, no dish cloths were provided. 5) the outside had a pleasant area to sit and visit but the patio furniture was falling apart with a chair arm falling off & a table with slats missing.6) doors and windows were old and difficult to open and needed a significant renovation 7) the Lake that we were to look out over was none existent. On a positive note the location of this house was in a wonderful scenic location and when going for a stroll the area was peaceful and beautiful. Over all this property was very expensive to rent and we did not receive the value for the price paid and there was no offer of reimbursing some of the money paid for the deficiencies that were identified.
We had a wonderful time at this fine home in Tuxedo Park. Our family trip included my husband and I, my Mom and Dad (90 years!) and my son, (24 years). It's a very European styled home, with French influenced decor, antiques and treasures. It is reminiscent of our visits to various Manoirs and country estates throughout France.
The layout is such that you can all gather together, or find a little privacy by yourself. We spent most of our time on the beautiful large patio overlooking the lake, enjoying the views, grilling and dining al
fresco, or just having a cocktail and trying to identify the birds and other wildlife in the virtual sanctuary that is their backyard.
The kitchen is well equipped and there is a built in grill on the back patio. The master bedroom is very comfortable, but shares a bathroom with an adjacent bedroom; not a problem for most families. There are plenty of other bedrooms, and bathrooms, making the house ideal for a family gathering, or a holiday with friends. The hosts are meticulous, and the house is very clean. I'm sure we would like to go back for another holiday in the future. Our hosts were kind enough to allow us to bring our well-behaved 7-lb. Maltese dog with us, for which we are very grateful.
Staying at this property for two weeks, I was blown away by how with such ease my family and I were able to feel truly at home. My teenage children loved waking up in the morning to the sound of the birds and enjoyed the view of the lake from their respective rooms. Among many things, my wife and I enjoyed pleasant walks around the lakes. The kitchen was a great spot for communal breakfasts, and my son and I enjoyed watching football in spacious tv room. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice, family oriented-home for a couple days.
We stayed with a couple of our friends late October at this beautiful house facing the Wee Wah Lake. The home was tastefully appointed, filled with light and very comfortable. While the weather was cool and rainy, we enjoyed the warmth and beauty of the house. The home is beautifully decorated with family treasures. The large kitchen fully equipped easily served us. The wood panel living room was very impressive and reminded me how the founders of Tuxedo Park were living at the end of the XIX century. It was a very peaceful and fun stay, and we all hope to come back soon.
