Our place is kid friendly with many children toys inside and out, board games, puzzles and books for your little ones to enjoy. Even though we are child friendly we are not child proof!

About Shell Ostler

My husband and I met on a annual friends trip to Yosemite, dated for a year and on the following annual trip he proposed to me at North Dome. We were married a year later in Mariposa, where we moved to to start our life and family together. We've been in Mariposa for a few years now and love living here and sharing our wonderful property with our guests.

Shell Ostler purchased this house in 2010

What makes this house unique

Our cat friendly guardians Cooper (Husky) and Dino (Black Lab) keep the bears away but you may see many of the other wild animals we have wondering the property at times, deer, fox, coyote, wild turkey and others.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Shell welcomed us as soon as we arrived and gave us all the necessary information about the house. She was later accessible via phone. House was exactly like seen on the pictures. It was clean and had everything we could ask for including nice appliances. Neighborhood was very peaceful.

Kept the kids entertained!

  • 5 of 5

The property was very very clean, it had everything we needed and everything was very new and functional. The beddings were clean and comfortable. There were a lot of toys and board games to keep kids entertained. Downside is that the play structure is not that big, and there was spider webs all over, and some of the out door toys were not functional. One suggestion is to have a step stool available in the bathroom, so the little kids can reach the sink. Owner is very friendly and responsive, and provided many tips for our trip.

Beautiful quiet house

  • 5 of 5

We visited Yosemite, which was about an hour away.

The town of Mariposa is charming and there are a lot of dining options there as well as supermarket and farmers market.

Everything you need

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place to stay. It had everything that you need. My 2 children loved the trampoline, the gill worked great ( you didn't have to use a match to light it). The beds were very comfortable. And we were greeted by the hostess family pet each time we came back to the cabin, which was a very friendly black lab, in which our family loves dogs. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the peacocks, next door, would wake you up early in the morning, but he owner of this home has no control over this.

Great Place

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean and comforting. Although a little far from the Park but worth it for the price we paid for the place.

Perfect weekend getaway home!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the home during memorial weekend. The road to the house was twisty (about 7 miles), therefore, if you have anyone that suffers from motion sickness in the vehicle it may be best to have them take Dramamine. The owners was friendly and nice. Met their sweet dog, Dino. The house is fully equipped with washer, dryer, dishwasher, pots, pans, utensils, etc. Only basic seasoning available (salt, pepper, sugar), so if you need other seasoning pack your own. The property is located next door to a farm or ranch which means every morning you will hear the sound of chickens, sheeps, turkeys, etc. The property is located on a bit of a hill so there is quite a bit of hiking up or down (very minor) to get around the property. Overall, I give this stay 5 stars, it was comfortable, plenty of games/ toys for our kids, lots of entertainment for adults, appreciate the a/c and heater (since it was cold one night and then warm another night), and overall a great location to get around such as Yosemite, Madera, Bass Lake, Casinos, etc.

We are located almost half way between the South entrance and the West entrance. The West entrance is Hwy 140 through the town of Mariposa and takes approximately 45 minutes to get to the entrance. This is the quickest way to get to the valley floor. The South entrance is Hwy 41 through the town of Oakhurst and it takes approximately 1 hour to get to the entrance. This is the entrance I would recommend if you are going to the Mariposa Grove or to the Wawona area. Just beyond Oakhurst is the beautiful resort area of Bass Lake. With such places so close, all kinds of activities are yours for the choosing: fishing, water sports, snow sports, hiking, biking, golfing, rafting, historical tours, gold panning, rock climbing, zip lining, horseback riding, birding, and so much more.
