Lighthouse Inspired Lakefront Beach House, Overlooking Long Island Sound

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,100 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 14 nights

About the property

Watch the sun set into LI Sound from any one of five decks.

This four bedroom, two bath, mint condition beach house is the perfect location for a summer retreat for your family. Located on a quiet country lane with water views out of every window! Located on top of a small, wooded, sand dune which allows for beautiful 360 degree views out of every window. In front you have an unobstructed view of LI Sound, where the sun will set into the water each evening, providing a memorable mural of natures artwork. This home has been built specifically to capture these sunsets!

The rear of the house is almost as spectacular, located directly on Great Pond, a 100 acre preserved, fresh water lake, which offers the best fresh water fishing on Long Island.

Locally well know, Kenney's Beach on LI Sound is located 150 yards away, and is manned all summer with a full time life guard. This beach is a hidden gem that is never crowded. And as if that were not enough, just a half mile to the east is another hidden gem-McCabe's Beach, also manned with a full time life guard.

A convienant outdoor shower is located at the rear of the house, perfect for after the beach. The house is also equiped with a gas grill just off the kitchen.

The Kenney's beach community is perfect for walking or biking on miles of beachfront and woodland country lanes. Safe for families and children.

Kenney's beach neighborhood is also the home of 'Elbow East' restaurant and bar. Famous for its marinated steaks and seafood. A real local treasure, perfect for lunch, dinner, cocktail, or snack at modest prices. It is located only a few hundred yards away-no car necessary, you can walk or bike.

Two miles to the west of Kenney's Beach is Goldsmith Inlet Park, also located on LI Sound with a beautiful beach and an inlet (think river) that flows inland. You and the kids can ride an inner tube with the incoming tide and float down the river for about a quarter of a mile!

The North Fork has become well know for its vineyards and wineries. One of the finest local wineries is Sparkling Point, which is located at the end of Kenney's Road just a mile from the house. They specialize in the production of award winning sparkling wines. They are open every day for tastings and frequently have outdoor entertainment.

But Sparking Point is only one of 20+ wineries and tasting rooms that are located within a 10 mile radius of the house. Almost every night of the week one of the vineyards will have live music outdoors. Bring a picnic, sit outdoors at the picnic tables, listen to the live music, let the children run in the grass (all of the wineries are very child friendly) and watch the sun go down over the vineyard while sampling the local wine.

The most popular town on the North Fork for shopping, entertainment, and dining is Greenport. This busy summer destination has a waterfront park, boat rides, a merry-go-round, many restaurants, shops, antique stores and art galleries. A perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening out. Don't miss the 'Music in the Park' concerts in both Southold and Greenport. Greenport's is held on Monday evenings all summer in Mitchell Park, right on the waterfront in the heart of town. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic basket and listen to the excellent live music. This event draws large crowds of families. You will enjoy watching the children running around with new found friends and the adults dancing on the stage to the pop music.

Southold's concerts are also family friendly events on Thursday evening in the center of town on the Main Road. The crowds are a little smaller and older, but it is a wonderful way to spend a evening outdoors for a picnic and entertainment. Both the 'music in the park' venues are free.

About Jack Larsen

I am a semi-retired executive. I grew up on the North Fork of Long Island and moved back to Southold when my children went away to college 12 years ago. It was a great decision to return. I find that to really appreciate the best of the North Fork, one needs to spend time here, especially during the 'season', when the 'bounty of the North Fork' is at its greatest!

Jack Larsen purchased this house in 2002

Why Jack Larsen chose Southold

I designed my own new home and supervised its construction. My primary objective in creating this home was to capture the natural beauty of the area, particularly the magnificent sunsets on LI Sound. I was raised in my family home just two miles to the west of my current location. Every night we watched sunsets over LI Sound. That view and memories was what I was trying to capture when I build my new home. This home has exceeded all of my expectations.

Terrific two weeks on the North Fork

  • 5 of 5

Could not have had a more wonderful 2 weeks. The house was so comfortable and well appointed. BBQing on the deck or walking to the beach or visiting local wineries or restaurants. The location is perfect.

Great Combination of Relaxation and Fun

  • 5 of 5

One of the highlights for my family every year is the week we spend in this great house. It offers such a vast variety of options. The actual house is beautiful and comfortable. Sunsets on the deck are a must and the kitchen/bbq allow for great home cooked meals. The lake in the back is great for kayaking and the beach is just a two minute walk away. Cant't wait to go back this year

Perfect Summer Rental!

  • 5 of 5

This will be my 5th consecutive year spending a week at this house. The house is clean, bright, and tranquil. From one porch you can sit and watch the deer walk around the pond and from the other you can watch the sun set over the Sound. A one block walk to the beach. Perfect for a quiet get away or a large family reunion (we've done both). Our kids love our visits to the beach house from running around the yard to walking along the beach and just hanging out on one of the numerous decks.

Beautiful and comfortable! Lots to do!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place for a family getaway! Having the beach so close is wonderful. Quiet, comfortable, roomy, with gorgeous views. Don't miss the sunset on the upper deck, perfect with a cocktail at the end of the day. I went with my nieces and nephews, and it's perfect for kids - toys and games, great yard for hide and seek, the adorable loft space, and plenty of room. Endless possible activities, from kayaking on the lake, to going to the beach, to visiting Greenport (kids will love the carousel!), excellent restaurants nearby, and a big TV and comfy couch for a rainy day in. Great family getaway.

The PERFECT Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here several times, and everything about the house is great---the size/layout/amenities/location to the beach/availability of the fresh-water pond right off the back yard for canoeing/kayaking/bird & nature watching/etc. I can't think of anything that would improve the nature/quality of this rental!

A perfect summer house !

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house for 2 weeks in August. It was just perfect for my husband and I and our 3 kids. Very clean and well decorated, we felt right at home. Plenty of room for all of us, and the beds were all very comfortable. We also LOVED the upper deck and the bbq for lunches and sunset dinners ! The kids loved riding their bikes around the area and the beautiful beach is literally a 2 minute walk from the house. We couldn't have asked for a better summer vacation home !

The North Fork of Long Island (Southold is located in the geographic center of the North Fork) has become very well know for at least three major activities:1) beaches (including boating and fishing), 2) wine tasting in one of our 50 wineries (Sparking Point Winery is located just a mile from my home), 3) the old whaling port of Greenport, that hums with excitement, shopping, restaurants, recreation, concerts, and nightlife every day of the season.
