1 Mile from West Park Entrance. Open floor concept living at its best!
Welcome to 'Our Climbers Cabin'!
Come in and open the 8' barn doors, grab a seat, relax and watch the sunset!
The cabin was built on 2.5 acres, approx 1 mile from the Western Gate to Joshua Tree National Park. It was built with a ton of good vibes and help from friends. It's a simple place, open concept with a large kitchen dinning area, a large bathroom and huge loft sleeping room. The kitchen offers a double sink, tons of counter space, hot pad, bar area, refrigerator and picnic table for wonderful group meals (feel free to move it outside as well). The cabin offer both heating and AC with a EUR style wall mount unit which is more than enough to keep the cabin very comfortable. There is Internet and Wifi as well as cell service at the property.
The upstairs offers a large loft for additional sleeping that can hold 6 folks without an issue. There is a queen Futon bed along with 6 sleeping pads for your use and a single futon bed down stairs. You will need to bring your own outdoor chairs, sleeping bags, pads, pillows and personal towels.
Depending on your preference and weather you can cook in, BBQ outside or restaurants are a couple miles away.
Pets: We love pets and have our own. Please remember that we share this wonderful area with other animals. Please show respect to the local wildlife and keep your dogs close at hand. Must be house broken
There is a large parking area and a small tack house with power that can also be used as a storage area for gear.

About Shawn Sampson
10 friends and climbing buddies tired of sleeping on the ground or in our cars for weeks on end decided to pool every penny we had back then and buy this property. That was over 21 years ago and we all still love our little slice of heaven. Now our families get to enjoy it as well. You will enjoy the vibe the minute you walk in! Cheers, The Partners
Shawn Sampson purchased this Cabin in 1997
Why Shawn Sampson chose Joshua Tree
Even back then, the Park was getting harder and harder to get a camping spot in, so we decided to build our own. Best part back then and still today, is a hot shower at the end of the day playing in the park!
What makes this Cabin unique
On any given day there is something to do and see just out the door. Great hikes around the local mountains, a walk down the road checking out local artists or just hanging out watching the day go by. It really is that easy to relax... must be the water (which by the way is great right out of the tap!)

Terrible experience. Shockingly dirty and unsafe.
We brought family from out of town and decided not to camp. So, the “rustic” aspect of this property seemed perfect. I didn’t have super high expectations. Just moderately clean and a little easier than tent camping. We arrived Friday later in the day. When we opened the door, we noticed how dirty the floor was. It appeared to not been swept or mopped in a long time. There was food debris and trash on the ground. The kitchen sink and toilet were clean. The area surrounding the toilet was disgusting. The listing does not show pictures of the “loft.” The loft is a nightmare. There were tons of huge flying bugs (there are no screens on the windows.) I expect a few bugs as this is in a wild area. However, there were hundreds!! There was a horrifyingly dirty, old, stained futon and several old , dirty mats. There was no smoke alarm in the attic and one incorrectly installed alarm on the ground floor. This property is in a fire zone. Dangerous!! I called the owner and was told a family had stayed before us and trashed the place. Not sure how that was our problem? Shouldn’t the property be cleaned between guests? The build up of dirt looked like long-term neglect. I told him we were driving into town to buy air mattresses and a pump as the mats and futons were all horrendously filthy. He said he would reimburse us for these items. We did not have any options and had to sleep there. My children wanted to sleep in our van. We all squeezed onto the ground floor. The next morning (Saturday), I missed a family hike and attempted to clean up. I was hoping to save our trip. There was dog hair everywhere! Even inside the refrigerator and on the toaster!! I sent more pictures to the owner. I heard nothing. When I attempted to clean the kitchen I found mouse droppings and ants. I cleaned for almost two hours. Finding the mouse droppings, no smoke alarms and the general filth made it unsafe to stay. The electrical work is shoddy and there is literally duct tape being used as trim at the ceiling. I text the owner saying we were ending our vacation early and leaving. I heard nothing. We drove home. Sad and disappointed that our desert getaway was ruined. Upset that our predicament was being ignored. I sent even more pictures. I heard nothing back from the owner. The next day (Sunday), I called vrbo with our complaint. I received a partial refund and a short apology. No refund for the air mattresses or pump.
This review is rather off the mark- It is not a safety hazard nor is it unsafe and yes there are smoke detectors in the cabin :/
Please make sure to read the info on the cabin. This is not a "little cute cabin". It is a rustic cabin which has great reviews from folks that understand what it is and is not...
The cabin was dirty (really trashed and mistreated which really was disheartening) from the group that left that morning (yes I gave them a very poor review!). It was cleaned as much as it could be in such a short window. After I saw the photos and talked to Elizabeth the night they came in I agreed and I told her we would refund her. The next day she found lodging and sent me a text that they where leaving. When I returned to get her text, 2 days later (was off the grid) I gave her a complete refund and a positive review for her willingness to understand the situation which when I spoke with her was ok. Im guessing she decide it was not enough...
Awesome location - Great Stay!
The Climbing Partners Cabin is just awesome. We often camp at Joshua Tree but expected the sites to be full over Spring Break so this place was the perfect solution! It gave us the best of both worlds of traveling - a tent or cot under the stars or a comfy futon or sleeping pad indoors. Having a bathroom with shower (great water pressure!), full kitchen and WiFi also made our "camping" much easier for the family members who aren't in to roughing it.
We filled the place with two families of four plus three dogs and we had plenty of room. There was room for more even as half of us slept outside but I believe the max is 8 heads. The kids had a great time riding their bikes up and down the private road (be careful of cacti!) and it's also a great spot for flying kites - especially in the morning. Though there are a few houses nearby we didn't see or hear any neighbors throughout our stay. It was virtual seclusion with no nearby lights or noises to disturb the serene environment. The nights were particularly enjoyable with an abundance of stars as the moon didn't peak the horizon until nearly 3am.
The owners don't sugar-coat their description of the property so certainly read their description if you are planning to rent. If you are looking for a glam place this is not it. It is a rustic-ish and wonderful experience but it is not a Palm Springs villa where you will party like a stupid reality TV "star".
My suggestion if you enjoy cooking: bring a couple pans and knives. The kitchen is fully stocked, of course, but I wished I had brought my camp kitchen kit with me. This isn't something that I found unique to the cabin - most rentals I've stayed in (especially for some odd reason the highest priced places) have dull kitchen knives. But it's really a moot point because it did not adversely affect our stay.
We will definitely be renting again. At less than the price of one hotel room it was an affordable and great experience for two families with young children and dogs. Thank you Climbing Partners for offering your wonderful cabin for all to enjoy! Cheers!
Perfect for our family camp out
Our family just enjoyed another great trip to JT and a second stay at the Climber's Cabin. We highly recommend this rustic cabin which has all the basics covered. Thanks again!
loved this rustic cabin!
no nonsense, just what you need for a weekend in the desert. amazing views, quiet area. the cabin was cute and had everything we needed!!!
Authentic Joshua Tree retreat!
Keeping in mind it is a rustic cabin, it was great with plenty of space and clean. Pretty nice diggs. Had a water heater issue and didn't realize which heater to use. Owner was on it asap!
Took my wife, parents and 2 year old son and we had a great time, beautiful scenery and great accommodations for the price. If your sense of adventure involves valets I would probably look elsewhere but if you like being in the quiet and the outdoors it's a great find. I would definitely stay again.
Thank you for the perfect review! Your comments bring smiles to the partners faces as this was our goal. Simple place, not to fancy but built with great vibes and love.
Cheers, The Partners
There are some great restaurants in the town of Joshua Tree 2 miles away as well and in the Yucca Valley which offers a much larger selection of food stores and is less than 8 miles away. The other fun place to visit is Pioneer Town which is about 15 miles from the cabin and of course Palm Springs.
