Rest & revitalize at a great,cozy So-Cal cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I recently had open heart surgery, and wanted to get away from a cold spring in Salt Lake City.. we had stayed at Casa-Marina in the past & was very excited to find that the property was available! Casa-Marina was the perfect place to relax & recharge my psyche. We did not need to rent a car as the beach, grocery store, many wonderful restaurants were all walking distance! The kitchen & patio were soo nice to have a nice place to cook for our selves. The gas grill work very well & was used often! Marina made every aspect of our stay so enjoyable, the property had all the amenities we could need! The landscaping was very beautiful, and the neighbors were very friendly & were quiet after 9 pm every night. We woke to sweet birds singing every morning.. just what I needed to relax & recharge before I had to return to work after my life saving surgery!! I will hope to re-visit Cass-Marina many more times in my new lease on life! I highly recommend this wonderful getaway! Thanks to a great & gracious host for one of the best times of my life!

So relaxing, and close to wonderful beach!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Casa Marina- great kitchen, and beautiful blooming flowers on the patio and yard, and the beach nearby is the BEST one in La Jolla, gorgeous in every direction. Plus we hardly used our car, exploring the area, with so much close by. Great!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at Casa Marina. The house is clean and spacious, with all amenities, very comfortable furniture. The location is perfect, walking distance to local beaches and La Jolla village, and easy access to highways to explore downtown, Balboa Park, Torrey Pines and other attractions in the area. We would love to return!

Fleas and spiders

  • 2 of 5

I stayed at the house with my husband and our three boys for 80 days. The first impression was great. The bedrooms are well decorated and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen is small but well equipped with new appliances. The backyard is charming with a grill and a beautiful garden. The only negative points seemed to be the old towels and the lack of air conditioning.

After a few days, we figured out that the itchy red dots on my son's legs and feet were not an allergy, but flea bites. The fleas were in the rugs and in the sofa bed. When we opened the sofa bed, we found out dog food, lost toys, pens and dirty under it. Nobody has ever opened the sofa bed in order to clean it. About the sofa bed: don't count on it as an extra bed. The mattress is old, dirty and stained. I wouldn't let any child sleep on it.

Besides the fleas, there were spiders and spider webs everywhere: in the garage, in the backyard, on the ceiling inside the house and around the curtains and the windows. There was even a big venomous brown widow spider living with its eggs on a web next to the washer machine.

We called Candance, who was responsible for the house, to schedule a pest inspection. The exterminator wasn’t able to solve the spider problem at the first extermination. He had to return and redo his work two more times. Finally, after 50 days of our arrival, we got rid of the spiders.

Each time a new extermination had to be done (three at total), my family had to stay four hours out of the house.

The house is old and every door has gaps through which any insect can come in. I guess the house is not receiving the proper maintenance because the owner is trying to sell it. During our stay, an investor came to see the house.

Although Marina (the owner) told me that the spider infestation had never happened before, I don't think it is true because she knew exactly the right places where the control guy should spray (“… ask them to pull out the sofa bed, take off the cushions and spray the frame.”)

We tried to return the house because we didn't want to spend Christmas Eve looking for spiders under the beds or inside our shoes. Unfortunately, we had to stay because we wouldn’t receive all of our money back unless the house were rented by someone else for the same period.

All of the problems with fleas and spiders could have been avoided if the house were properly cleaned and inspected before our arrival.

I gave two stars because of the neighborhood, the new linens and appliances.

Fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Marina. The listing was accurate-the place was clean and cozy. The cottage is in a great location-walk to town or the beach and has a lovely enclosed patio in the back. The owners were helpful with restaurant advice. We will stay there again next time in La Jolla! Cheers!
