Home is a Hexagon shape, and has windows all across the front. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is just minutes away from Kanab. Wrap around deck and private back deck give views in all directions. Home sits on 2.2 acres and has addition RV hookups, and a garage. Home is very private. You can sit on the deck and watch the sun come up or down!
I was raised in Kanab. This is my parents dream home, they build it in 1986. My father was a Sgt. on the Utah Highway Patrol. My Brother and I both followed in his footsteps. Thus the name 'Bear Den'. I live close by and work as a DOT Inspector for the State of Utah.
Lindsey Jones Or Tad Mecham purchased this house in 2014
I made a promise to my daddy that I would keep this house and take care of it. What better way to show my appreciation? I love sharing my parents beautiful home with explorers wanting to see the country we have all loved for many years!
The wrap around deck and large windows provides the best view around!! The Bear Den is Homey, Comfortable and a beautiful place to vacation in!
My family and I were very pleased with the home we stayed at. Clean and comfortable and very affordable. LOVED sitting by the fireplace in the evening and LOVED the deck during the day. Perfect for a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. If there is ever another event that finds us in Kanab, Utah we will definitely stay at The Bears Den again!!
Positive comments first; the property owners gave clear information on accessing the house, and operating its features. It seemed very clean. There were many things provided in the pantry, laundry room and kitchen which were useful. The setting is nice and very quiet.
However, when we first entered, we all noticed the odor of past smokers. As a former smoker myself, I easily detect it as it permeates the carpet, walls and furnishings. I know it is now a non-smoking property and probably has been for a long time, but it was noticeable.
The furniture and decor are pretty 70s-era, a bit dark and heavy to me. Beds were OK, a bit "bouncy" and the pillows could be updated. Two cold showers on our last morning there.
The house rules ask that you empty the dishwasher and return everything to its right place. Also that you return the furniture to its original position if you moved it. We certainly had no problem with doing that, as we had moved the couch and chair to face the fireplace instead of with their backs to it. The rule that asked us to wipe off the countertops, etc. was also no problem, until it came to the part about wiping off the toilet. Wouldn't the housekeeper be scrubbing and sanitizing it and include wiping it in his/her duties?
Our stay was not a bad experience, but it was disappointing.
Perfect respite after long days in Zion and Bryce. Very convenient to town! Loved our stay and would definitely come back.
We truly enjoyed staying here. We fixed breakfast every morning and cooked one evening meal as well. Just everything we 'suddenly needed' was there, and mostly exactly where we guessed it would be. I loved the 'X-BEAR' personalized license plate on the wall! We really hated to leave when it was time for us to head on to further attractions down the road. (btw - there is one bulb out in the living room ceiling fixture)
Had a great time here staying in this home. Lots of room, amenities and the weather was perfect. Don't know who arranged that but we appreciated it!
Very nice accommodations. We enjoyed our stay. Kanab was a very interesting place and it was so easy to get to the parks from here. We cooked out and ate on the patio several times.
Close to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Hub for Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, The WAVE, Coral Pink Sand dunes, and Grand Staircase Escalante.
