About Sabine Naber

My husband and I have been residence of Carlsbad since 2003 and have loved every inch and every aspect of the hustle and bustle of this charming city. Most of all we have enjoyed and loved the sun and just adored (our kids especially) the many outings to the beach, the surf and sand and the busy and yet sleepy and laid back beach town we call downtown Carlsbad. And so we wanted to have a little place to retire in when our kids are grown and independent. We wanted a small and cozy place easy for us to navigate and yet roomy and welcoming for our kids and their significant others as well, and so we came across this charming little property on Jefferson street although, I have to say, it looked nothing like it does today; we saw through the deserted little house's battered walls, floors, kitchen, bathroom, broken closets and very old and neglected bedrooms and windows. Although we underestimated the amount of work and resources we would need to fix it up, after 3 months of continuous hard work and a lot of back and forth decisions, a lot of support and help from family especially with the kids , this coastal cottage is ready to be enjoyed and relaxed in. We hope that every family that visits our cottage will fall in love with our quaint and yet busy downtown, our amazing beach, our beautiful sun, the refreshing breeze of the pacific and the many attractions all within a few miles of the cottage. If for any reason you want to expand your sightseeing, only steps away, the coaster will whisk you to down town San Diego where oodles of possibilities awaits you....

Cozy and Accommodating Near Beach and Legoland

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay in this adorable little cottage right in town. We found it very clean and the owners were very responsive and friendly. Plenty of sleeping space with the queen in one room, double with twin trundle in another room and hide-a-bed couch in living room plus a cushy floor sleeping mat rolled up in the closet! We walked to the farmers market, the chocolate shop and doughnut shop. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby; yet it still felt very private. The front and back yard are fenced and were perfect for our little ones to spend some time outdoors. The beach is several block away, within walking but we have little ones so we drove about 3 min and parked nearby. In the cottage we found beach chairs, sand toys and boogie boards that we enjoyed very much. There are also card games, children's toys (including Legos which kept our children busy the whole stay), a high chair, playpen, stroller, extra floor sleeping mat and many other little extras that made this quite a comfy place to stay. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes and appliances like a toaster oven and a blender; they even have a cupboard with little extras you might have forgotten like oil and seasonings. There is a fireplace, large TV with DVD player, washer and dryer, plenty of extra bedding and towels and just all around very comfy. The washer is fairly small but was still a nice commodity to have while near the beach! Although there is only one bathroom the hot water heater kept up perfectly with our little crowd. If you are a light sleeper and not used to being in a city bring earplugs; there is a train that comes through town but with earplugs we were able to sleep fine. We noticed there is heat but doesn't seem to be air conditioning but there are ceiling fans. We came in May so this was not a problem, we did open windows and doors when arriving after our time at Legoland and let in the cool evening air which was nice. There are lots and lots of kind reviews written in a binder so it seems that many other people have had a wonderful experience here too. Overall our experience was wonderful and we will definitely recommend this beach cottage to others and come stay again!

Thank you so much!

The coastal cottage is a perfect vacation home. It is truly a home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is not only adorable but it is equipped with everything you will need. It is walking distance to so many unique shops, restaurants, the beach, park's and several churches in the area. My kids felt like they were at home and didn't want to leave. I recommend the coastal cottage to anyone visiting this area. We would definitely return and would like to also rent the casita for more of us to be together. My only recommendation would be to purchase more plastic dishes for people with children. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

We were lucky enOUGH to stay at this cottage for 4 nights and had the best time. We walked to the beach and to restaurants every evening. Actually the only time we used the car was to go to LEGOLAND and the grocery store. The cottage had everything that we needed and more. Great location and price!!! They even had legos and books for out son to enjoy. We cannot wait to go back- there is a rental in the back also if you have a bigger group. There was someone staying there at the same time but you would have never known. The owner was very attentive with her responses. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!!!

Good choice

LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION. Parked my rental car in the driveway and walked everywhere. Locked myself out the first day but it was not a problem. Property manager came and let me back in and explained the lock system and gave me a backup key. As reported by others, this area can be noisy due to the coastal train and traffic. (The train stops and midnight and begins again at 6:30 or so. Traffic also slows down significantly after about 9:00 PM.). I will stay here again on my next trip.

A charming cottage with amenities galore.

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for something different for our annual spring break vacation this year. We even own a timeshare in Carlsbad, but decided we wanted to try a vacation rental instead. After 20+ years in hotel management, we've stayed at countless properties throughout the US and abroad. I am extremely picky when it comes to lodging and tend to critique every aspect of our stay. Since this was our first experience with vacation rentals, I really didn't know what to expect. I thought I'd try it once and if I didn't like it I'd go back to what I know best. I researched numerous rentals, reading all of the guest comments and comparing amenities. Sabine and George have thought of everything you might need for your vacation. When we arrived, I couldn't figure out the tv remote control, so Sabine and George quickly came to the cottage to see if the batteries needed to be changed or if I was just technically challenged. I was concerned that there was only one bathroom and we were traveling with two teenaged girls, but they had enough room in their bedroom to do whatever it is that they do to get ready to go out. We made good use of the gas grill in the back yard and the girls loved making s'mores on the backyard fire pit. We discovered more of the village this year since we could walk to everything, and yes that means that my wife spent more money this year in the local shops. This rental fit our needs perfectly and I highly recommend Sabine and George's cottage. The value you are going to get for the price you pay doesn't get any better than this. Mix in their hospitality and customer service, and this is a home run. We will definitely be back, hopefully over and over again. Thank you for your hospitality, Kent Rutledge and family.
