About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Nestled in the Heart of Provence, on the south side of the Luberon mountains, this charming, spacious, two-bedroom, two-bath stone house is available for rent in a small village founded in 1506. Surrounded by vineyards and Chateaux, olive groves, sunflower and lavender fields and picturesque medieval villages, this is the area of Provence described in Peter Mayle's series 'A Year in Provence'. The house is 35 minutes north of Aix-en-Provence, 45 minutes north of the Marseille International Airport and the Mediterranean Ocean. In spite of its' old world charm, the house offers air-conditioning, Broadband Internet access (via Wi-Fi) and unlimited international calling to the US and Canada.(Other destinations may be included - please inquire)

The completely furnished house is on two levels. On the ground floor, there is a living room area decorated with rustic Provençal furniture and fabrics. Also on the ground floor is a dining area for six, a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom with bathtub, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The view out of the windows is onto an 18th century church and the Luberon Mountains. On the second floor, up from the spiral staircase, are the two spacious bedrooms with Queen-size beds, a full bathroom with shower, and access to the terrace.

The village is a small, quiet, and increasingly rare, authentic French village in Provence, with spectacular views of vineyards and mountains in the immediate surrounds. This is a very calm and wonderfully rich part of Provence and offers the authenticity of the French countryside in which you can become truly immersed. The villagers will welcome you and you will no doubt wish to have aperitifs and Provençal delicacies along with them at the village cafe/restaurant..

In the immediate surrounding areas enjoy hiking and walking trails in the Luberon National Park, biking, wine and olive oil tastings, swimming, fishing, tennis, antiques shopping, and visits to medieval villages with their wine cellars and farmer's markets.

The house is perfectly situated to explore the entire region of Provence. Within one hour are the following destinations: to the west are the famous wineries of Chateauneuf du Pape, the cities of Arles and Avignon, to the north are the hilltop villages of Gordes and Rousillion (the 'Colorado of France'), to the west is the striking Gorges of Verdon, and to the south is the city of Aix-en-Provence, the Mediterranean Ocean, and Marseille. A bit further drive and you come to the costal towns of the Cote d’Azure, including St. Tropez, Nice, and Cannes.

In the immediate vicinity of the house, however, explore farmers' and craft markets, a lake, restaurants and castles in the nearby villages of La Motte D'Aigues, Ansuis, Lourmarin, Cucuron and Grambois. La France profonde in Provence!

Free parking is available just in front of the property.

Property not handicap accessible.

About Holly Poirier

I've welcomed visitors to the South of France since 2001. I must have been born in a small Provencal village in another lifetime; it feels like home - and I look foward to welcoming you to this amazing part of the world. The house is in one of the few remaining authentic villages of Provence - a wonderful opportunity to become immersed in Provencal village life. 'Bienvenue'!

Holly Poirier purchased this house in 2001

Why Holly Poirier chose Luberon Area

The smell of lavender, the food, wine, cheese, the art, architecture, chateaux, sunflowers, etc., etc., Does one really have to explain their love for Provence?

Not yet overrun with tourists, this village is the real thing. Some of my neighbors work in the vineyards and make their own cheese and wine. The village is not lost to the modern world however - we can still boast sophisticated world travelers and world class (true) artists who call this village home. And of course, being in the heart of Provence, we have access to all the cultural attractions and sites that make this area so famous.

What makes this house unique

The property is a wonderful combination of the old and the modern.

DREAM VACATION

  • 5 of 5

My week-long stay in August of 2013 marked the third time that I have stayed in this comfortable provencale house and I can say without hesitation that it still delivers charm galore in a beautiful setting while also offering the modern conveniences of home. I always feel at home in this quaint stone house furnished with French antiques and located in a classic French country village. So many evenings spent sipping an aperitif on the house's second-floor terrace while enjoying beautiful mountain vistas after a day packed with touring the many nearby villages, each with their own array of charming shops, restaurants, and markets, or a trip to the amazing city of Aix only 20 minutes away, or even a lazy day of strolling through the village or walking (or biking) down the old country roads that lead from the village where you can smell the lavendar growing wild by the roadside, see farmers working in their vineyards, or see the views that Cezanne saw all set against an amazing blue sky. After three visits over the last few years, I still find the location both peaceful (maybe even magical) and yet close enough to many attractions to be convenient and there's ample parking near the house which made things easy for our group which on this visit had brought two cars between the four of us. Many times we've brought back local produce and artisan cheeses from the local markets (or have hit the modern supermarket which is in a neighboring town about 10 minutes away) and cooked a splendid meal in the house's large large windowed kitchen which has always proven be up to the task of providing ample room and everything needed to prepare a nice meal. Coming from a large city, I've always found it extremely soothing to fall asleep in one of the houses large bedrooms, with the windows open and the soothing sound of the "cigalles" in the distance, and an itinerary of great adventures planned for the next day in my head. As I often have to check emails, etc, while travelling, I also find the house's WIFI very convenient and although on a hot summer day, it still feels very comfortable inside the stone house, its nice to know there's air conditioning at the ready just in case. I highly recommended this house in all ways - if you're looking for a place to stay that will surround you with charm, beauty and also convenience, this is the house for you!

Authentic Provence Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Owing to the great reviews on this site, we decided book a week in this house in the Luberon followed by a week in the same owner's apartment in Aix en Provence. When I arrived at the house, I was greeted by the house owner, Holly, and was embraced immediately by the authentic French village and home. The house is large and comfortable, the bedrooms are roomy, the bathrooms are clean and well equipped and we had many nights on the terrace enjoying the smell, sounds and wines of Provence. This has been a perfect experience for our visit to the South of France and are already planning to return for next year. Holly's attention to detail and our comfort made us look forward to our stay at her Aix en Provence apartment!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Anita! I knew from our telephone conversations prior to your booking that staying both in the Luberon house and the apartment in Aix-en-Provence would be the absolute best way for you to enjoy all of Provence. I'm so glad you and Charlie loved your stay and of course I look forward to welcoming you both again next year. Merci!!!!

Peypin D'Aigues vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect! It is in a small village that is the ideal base for exploring the Luberon. We were here for three weeks and loved it. It is in great condition and had everything we needed. Very clean and extremely comfortable. The owner was wonderful! She really went out of her way to make sure we had a great time. She treated us like old friends! The house has a deck off the master bedroom that was perfect for relaxing. It had a view of a small church and we would sit there and drink wine and feel so lucky we were there! The village is quiet with only a small cafe. But the house is close to several towns with restaurants, stores, shopping, etc.

The house had everything we needed including flat screen tv, stereo, A/C in the bedrooms, washer and dryer. The beds were great, lots of linens, towels, and virtually everything we needed

The photos were 100% accurate!

It was perfect and we would certainly stay here again!

It really is charming! And so relaxing

We didn't want to leave! We loved it!

A Quiet Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

This house has a 2nd floor terrace that looks North over a church tower toward the Luberon Mountains, so you feel they are cradling you.

This is a house that would easily serve two couples. Both bedrooms are large, and the beds are comfy. The kitchen is the smallest room in the house, but is suitable for preparing a dinner for a half-dozen.

The village is small, and very quiet. Five minutes from the front door we watched farmers driving herds of sheep home in the evening.

If you want quiet, privacy, and don't mind driving, this is the place for you
