About Scott and Lynne Van Dusen

We relocated to Portland in 2010 because of the vibrant and creative environment in and around the city, and to be within the amazing and beautiful Pacific Northwest region.

Scott and Lynne Van Dusen purchased this house in 2010

Why Scott and Lynne Van Dusen chose Sellwood District

We love Portland and the Pacific Northwest, and chose this house in Sellwood because the location is close to everything we need and enjoy, we can walk to almost everything from the house, and the neighborhood has a great comfortable vibe.

What makes this house unique

This cozy Bungalow has more depth than one would think. There are nice spaces like the upstairs room for reading and relaxing with a rocking chair and sofa/futon, and the finished basement with a private queen bed, full bathroom, sofa/futon, bucket chairs, TV and laundry. One of our favorite features of this house is the front porch, which on warmer days, is literally an extra outdoor room overlooking the garden below.

Just steps away are two amazing parks, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, Riverfront Park along the river, Oaks Amusement Park, some of Portland's finest restaurants, some great local casual dining including food carts, a New Seasons market, Sellwood's Antique Row, some of Portland's most unique shops, a public library, public transit, and more.

Perfect location - Quaint home - Lovely porch

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, and my 11-year-old son stayed here for 5 days, and we loved the experience and the house! The living room furniture was comfortable and cozy, the kitchen was well-stocked, the fridge a very nice size, and the stove was very interesting! Scott, the owner, was quick to reply anytime I had a question. He was also very flexible when we needed to delay our arrival day due to my son being sick. I'm super grateful we found this home on VRBO, as it's really the perfect location for exploring the area. It was a quick 15-20 minute drive into Portland and about a 7-10 minute drive to Lake Oswego, which is a lovely area just south of Sellwood. Having a nice, comfortable home to come home to after a day of being out was an added plus. Sellwood is a lovely location to stay in, and I would highly recommend this house. We could easily walk (5 minutes) to restaurants and the yummy bakery nearby. The neighborhood gelato "shop" (Atlas) is a fun! People are so friendly and welcoming in Sellwood...we loved visiting The Bottle Shop and Ancestry Brewery. We were fortunate enough to have such lovely weather and enjoyed sitting on the porch having our morning coffee and waving hello to the neighbors walking by. We wish we could have stayed longer, especially when we realized that there was a really cool attic upstairs...we didn't discover that until the day before we were supposed to son would have loved to sleep up there! :)

The house was perfect for what we needed

  • 5 of 5

We loved the style of the house and room it provided. Location was fantastic. We could walk to shopping and restaurants. The last day we discovered a room that we didn't know was there. All rules were to our liking except that towels had to be washed and dried. We had an early morning flight, so were not able to shower the day we left. The owners have done a wonderful job with this property

Holiday Stay

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and Scott and Lynn were wonderful to work with. The only drawback is a neighbor who will tolerate no noise after 9:00 pm. This makes it a little difficult to enjoy the backyard or even in coming and going after 9:00. However, this is more than made up for by the comfort of the home.

Comfort and convenience

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time here. What a lovely, clean and inviting house. So much room. The hosts, Scott and Lynne, are kind people and make themselves available when you have a question or need something. The neighborhood is quiet, and the house is a short walk to coffee shops, restaurants, lots of antique stores and a New Seasons Market. The house comes with a vintage gas stove that is fun to use and brings you back to another era. Laundry in the basement is convenient, the kitchen is well-equipped--no dishwasher but we didn't mind hand washing at all. We visit our daughter at college when we are here, and this house will be part of our fond memories of her time in Portland. I feel so lucky that we found this house. What a gem!
