About Scott and Lynne Van Dusen

We relocated to Portland in 2010 because of the vibrant and creative environment in and around the city, and to be within the amazing and beautiful Pacific Northwest region.

Scott and Lynne Van Dusen purchased this house in 2010

Why Scott and Lynne Van Dusen chose Portland

We love Portland and the Pacific Northwest, and chose this house in Sellwood because the location is close to everything we need and enjoy, we can walk to almost everything from the house, and the neighborhood has a great comfortable vibe.

What makes this house unique

This cozy Bungalow has more depth than one would think. There are nice spaces like the upstairs room for reading and relaxing with a rocking chair and sofa/futon, and the finished basement with a private queen bed, full bathroom, sofa/futon, bucket chairs, TV and laundry. One of our favorite features of this house is the front porch, which on warmer days, is literally an extra outdoor room overlooking the garden below.

Just steps away are two amazing parks, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, Riverfront Park along the river, Oaks Amusement Park, some of Portland's finest restaurants, some great local casual dining including food carts, a New Seasons market, Sellwood's Antique Row, some of Portland's most unique shops, a public library, public transit, and more.

fantastic house in great neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

First off, this house located in a phenomenally, walkable urban neighborhood. If location is important to you then you can't ask for a better location. You're close to Portland's great mass transit-which means you can conveniently get to just about all of Portland's fantastic attractions. The neighborhood is bustling and that can mean a bit more noise than you'd like. But the home is nice and secluded so that's a plus. Also, the neighborhood is super safe. We walked all over the place-even at night-and felt safe the while time. We spent just about every morning and evening we were there sipping coffee or wine on the porch.

As for the house itself-very comfortable and roomie. We've got a family of 4 and everyone got their own space. The home was clean and had all the sheets, towels, utensils, appliances, etc. you could want. I'll be honest, I was a little intimidated by the stove. But the washer, dryer, fridge were all great. And we went with teenagers and they sure can vouch for the wifi. When we were there the weather got pretty warm (close to 100) and the house retained a comfortable temperature.

We couldn't ask for better hosts. They were easy to work with. Prompt in getting back to us with questions and reliable-if they said they were going to do something they did it...when they said it was going to get done. And they also nicely provided all sorts of helpful ideas and reference material about the area.

Portland can be pretty damp and Portland basements aren't always great for people with allergies, so you'll want to be careful there...although my 16 year spent a week down there and didn't have a problem.

I whole heartedly recommend it this Sellwood bungalow.

Fantastic house in the perfect neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

We just left the house this morning and wanted to thank the owners for providing a great house for our stay in Portland. We had the house for a week and though we only used it mostly to sleep in, it worked out well for my husband and me and our two young kids. After exploring all the neighborhoods in Portland, I think we chose the best one with the proximity of restaurants and food trucks in less than a 5 minute walk. The house was much larger than I expected and even bigger than we needed since we would leave early in the morning and come home after dinner with all of our day trips so I highly recommend it for couples and families. The owners provided everything we needed and thank you for the bottle of wine! Overall, great house and location and excellent communication from owners.

Beautiful landscaping, loved the front porch & back patio. Quiet neighborhood & easy walk to river & restaurants. If you love books, Walton books is awesome, just about 10 blocks up on Milwaukee. Bylee street has fun things to see too. We stayed in basement & it was like a separate apartment (& cool on hot nights). Cozy place to stay!
