About the property

Beautiful Highlands Mountain Cabin in quiet neighborhood very close to town

I owner manage this property my self. My VRBO Calendar is up to date and I handle payment directly with all clients. I also pay the NC accommodation bed tax so there are no additional fees or taxes. Pine Crest Cabin is located in the friendly quiet neighborhood of Mirror Lake in Highlands, NC. The cabin is only a short drive to downtown where you will find superb dining and unique shopping. Highlands is located at an elevation over 4100 feet and is known for its cool summer weather and wonderful hiking trails which include many waterfalls and perfect mountain views.

We have completely renovated Pine Crest Cabin over the last several years and everything has been updated including adding hardwood floors, wood ceilings and a central HVAC system. Our cabin is a very comfortable and cozy 2 bedroom/2 bath home furnished with beautiful American and European Antiques furnishings from our family antique store Jacqueline Adams Antiques located in Atlanta. You will feel very relaxed in the morning sitting on the front porch drinking coffee or watching the sunset over the wooded ridge from the expansive back deck with brand new out door furniture. The cabin has a nice mountain ridge view with a grill out on the large back deck. There is very easy access into the cabin with only one step up into the cabin and everything is on one level.

The large kitchen is fully equipped and is a dream to work in with all of its space and the butcher block as the center island. The two private bedrooms each have wonderful new bedding and bath linens, pillows and quilts with nice size closets. The master bedroom has an attached bathroom with shower/tub and a double vanity. The guest bedroom has a full bathroom directly across the hall. The family room has a wonderful stone fireplace and another wall filled with books for your reading pleasure. There is also a stackable washer/dryer available for your laundry needs. Pine Crest Cabin is a very comfortable homey rental for either a quick long weekend or an extended stay.

Highlands is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life or from the heat of the summer. Each season there are so many different things to do. There are a wide variety of wonderful restaurants ranging from 5 star rated fine dining to casual fun places to grab a sandwich. The downtown area has wonderful shopping which include high end designer clothing shops, art galleries, candy and ice cream shops and several antique stores. It is a pleasure just walking thru town with our two Yorkshire Terrier dogs. We also like to walk the dogs down to Mirror Lake to see the ducks or to the Botanical Gardens to go for a walk near the lake in the woods/gardens. Highlands also hosts several cultural, automotive, culinary, and art related weekends during the summer. Also, if you love wine all the restaurants have great wine lists with experienced sommelier’s. During the summer there are always a nice selection of theater events to attend at several different local area playhouses (very unusual for a town of this size!). Make time to attend one of the events at the Bascom Art Center. Nearby you will find the lovely town of Cashiers and nearby Lake Toxaway which are both wonderful to visit.

Highlands is a resort like destination with the renowned Old Edwards Inn. We love to go to the Old Edwards Inn Wine Garden or Madison's restaurant and when we have time visit their world renowned Spa for a massage or facial. There are so many great restaurants to list here but we just want to mention a couple of our favorites (On the Verandah overlooking Lake Sequoyah, Wolfgangs on Main for their seafood and Paoletti's for Italian and we can tell you about several others...too many to list) If you have never been to Highlands, I think you should come visit our town up in the mountains! We have been visiting Highlands since 1989 and have many great suggestions to make your vacation special.

About Vicki Adams Beam

Vicki and Chuck Beam

I manage this property myself and own several other properties in Hilton Head Island SC. We live in Alpharetta, GA 20 miles north of Atlanta and my family owns an antique store located in Buckhead.

Vicki Adams Beam purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Vicki Adams Beam chose Highlands

We loved the quiet location of the Mirror Lake neighborhood and love the fact that Highlands NC is only a 2 1/2 hour drive from our house in Alpharetta. We completely renovated the house from top to bottom both inside and outside. It was a labor of love and took several years to complete. The house is all on one level and is very comfortable and cozy being a great size for a getaway.

After my grandmother purchased a house up in Highlands we started regularly coming up to visit her and fell in love with the area.

What makes this cabin unique

Very close to town in the quiet neighborhood of Mirror Lake. Dog friendly cabin with central air conditioning and very large back deck. Beautiful sunsets over mountain ridge viewed from back deck. My dogs love the great walking neighborhood with the cool air and gentle hills. Fireplace with plenty of firewood.

House is cozy for fall and winter getaway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Vicki,

We had a wonderful visit to Highlands. The cabin was very nice and the weather was lovely, a nice change from FL!

*We hiked each day and found the trails, waterfalls and scenery amazing.

*We shopped a little and dined in town. Downtown has a nice variety of shops and restaurants. Dined in a few nights and the local butcher provided the best petite filets we've had in a long time!

*Visited the Bascome Art Center - how interesting that it is a reassembled barn and bridge. The folks there were kind and knowledgeable. Enjoyed the guided pottery exhibit.

*Went horseback riding at Arrowmont - a scenic trail ride and the guide was fun! (Did appear our horses were little tired! I am a horse owner, so a I am picky!)

*Enjoyed a play -" 9 to 5" - at the playhouse -Very entertaining. We were pleasantly surprised by the professional talent.

The only thing we didn't get to do on our "to do" list, was white water rafting or canoeing. - that will be our reason to return!

Overall our visit to Highlands was a 10!

Thanks so much, hope to return again soon.

Anniversary Celebration

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in comfort at the upscale cabin. Every amenity was there. The friendly welcome to the cabin was terrific. The views and water falls were gorgeous and your helpful hints for entertainment and food were right on. We did everything you mentioned and had a blast. We really appreciated the ease of travel and close proximity of the cabin to everything. We will visit again many times! Thanks for an anniversary we will always remember.

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was really warm and comfortable even in the middle of winter. The two bedrooms and living/dining areas were perfect for us. We fully enjoyed the fireplace even when it was cold and snowing outside. I can only imagine how nice the decks would be in the summer and fall and will definitely be back again for a visit during the summer.

Perfect cabin and location

  • 5 of 5

After weeks of searching cabins and emailing owners, we became dizzy. In the end, we chose this cabin and couldn't have been happier. We wanted the peace and quiet of the mountains but, hailing from Miami, we didn't want to be 30 minutes from civilization either. This has it all. Views of the mountains from the deck and, literally, 5 minutes from town. When I forgot something from the store, it wasn't an issue to go back to town. Our goal, now, is to visit during the summer to take advantage of the many other activities offered in Highlands. The cabin has all the essentials needed and cleaner than most 5-star hotels we've visited. It was nice to have appliances that were new, clean and worked. The outside grill was clean and not rusted. The carport fit my 2015 Yukon which was great because it poured two days, during our week stay. And, for me, the most important feature, I didn't have to break my back carrying all of our luggage up a flight of stairs - one level.

We'll definitely be going back, without a doubt. As a husband and father of two girls, if I had to make one complaint - not enough hangers in the closet. Also, the pictures do not do it justice, my wife wanted to retake for the owner.
