Cute and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Me, my kids and two of my friend's kids, plus my dog stayed here for two nights and we loved it. With plans to hike the 'Channels Natural Preserve, the location of the cabin was ideal. Upon walking in to the cabin I was pleasantly reminded of my grandfather's shops and summer camp cabins. The place is small and cozy, there were plenty of linens, extra blankets, pillows and towels. The futon is on the smaller side so I wouldn't recommend it for two adults. There are a few movies for the older crowd, some books and games. The guest book was fun to page through, and there is a notebook with helpful tidbits as well. The kids very much enjoyed sitting on the deck by the river's edge and I loved the rocking chairs on the cabin deck. On either side are what appear to be abandoned cabins and since the road was infrequently traveled the atmosphere was very serene. The security lights over the main door and back door plus the motion light on the stairs helped us feel secure. We really enjoyed our stay and if we are ever down that way again (it's a 6 hour drive for us) we will definitely go back.

It was a great spot to get away.

  • 4 of 5

We went up to hike the Channels (they are worth it) and needed a place to stay. Once I saw the pictures, I knew this was the place for us. It is just far enough from town to be quiet. We loved everything about the place. It was a great stay. If you are looking for out in the wilderness, this is the place for you.

great stay

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin. I enjoyed the rustic nature and the cozy feel. Really nice. The view of the river is great. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck and going down by the water to watch the river roll by. I would highly recommend. It is not luxury but the fun of a cabin stay is to feel like you are in a cabin and not a hotel, so it works just right. And Abingdon is very nearby, great little town. Go to the Wolf Hills brewery and to a play at the Barter Theater.

Perfect Retreat

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is spacious and very well decorated, with a gorgeous view and an incredible deck right on the river. The gas fireplace is just right on cold nights. The cabin has an extremely pleasant and rustic atmosphere, so it is very easy to relax and let time slide by while reading or just enjoying the view. It's a very short drive from downtown Abingdon, which has some of my personal favorite restaurants in the all of Virginia.

Nice, Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little house in a secluded location, but still close enough to Abingdon for easy access. Would definitely stay here again.

Gas Leak!

  • 2 of 5

Upon entering the cabin there was a musty bad smell. We opened doors and lit every candle in the house. That masked the smell but we noticed it was strongest near the fireplace. My husband lit a lighter near the incoming line and a blue flame lit up confirming a gas leak. My husband was able to stop the leak but is certain over time it will return. He texted the owner who did not reply until the next morning. The owners response was shocking. "It shouldn't" was what we got. My husband explained the situation via text and asked that they call so he could explain what is needed. Owner said she would have her husband call but no one ever did. The ignorance of the owner and their lack of respect for our safety frustrates me. The fact that our first time using VRBO turned into us dealing with a gas leak without a care from the owner leaves us with no desire to do this again. So I highly recommend if you stay here and it smells bad near the fireplace don't light candles cause gas is highly flammable. Don't call the owner they don't care. Just call the fire department! Let the owners deal with them!

Owner's Response: First of all I would like to apologize for not replying to your text until the next morning. However, the text came in at 11:15 pm and unfortunately, since I was sleeping, I did not receive the text until the next morning, at which time I responded. In our correspondence, you indicated to me that you had "tightened the valve" and that "it seems to have stopped". I did discuss the leak with my husband, and since you seemed sure that you had stopped the leak, we chose to wait until Sunday to have a maintenance person come and check it out. You had, in fact, tightened the valve enough that the leak stopped. I agree that when I did not respond, you or anyone that is experiencing a gas leak that you feel is a true emergency, should call 911 immediately. Your safety is a priority to me and I apologize if you felt that it wasn't.
