We grew up in the Chicago area and my husband spent his summers on Scenic Drive as a child. We built this house next door to the original family cottage in 2008. We live in the Lansing, Michigan area and will until retirement.
Lisa Bruun purchased this house in 2008
All the furnishings are rich and warm. 50 feet of private beachfront ! Everyone who has been in this home raves about how beautifully appointed it is! And the sunsets are just AWESOME !! Hang by the fire pit at night with your favorite toddy and tell ghost stories :-).
Large parking area on roadside of house.
This house is perfect. The attention to detail both in construction, decor, and pre-guest preparation are unsurpassed. I have been a host for four years, I know the amount of work that goes into creating an environment like this.
Every day we walked the beach for more than an hour (down to Duck Lake Channel and back) and many days we never saw another person during our hour walk. Lake Michigan was warm this year, and several long time ocean fans became fresh water converts. We built a fire on the beach and several in our party slept on the beach one night.
There are 46 stairs to the beach, I loved the exercise going up and down, but those with limited mobility may have trouble getting down to the beach. There was a beautiful deck at the top of the dune for sunset viewing and cocktails.
Great communication with the hosts. Everything as pictured here, but better. We cannot wait to return next year.
The house was even better than advertised. Inside, the home is beautifully decorated, comfortable, functional, and features a great kitchen and stunning bathrooms. (I want the owners to come and redecorate my house). Outside, there are three seating areas. First, there's a combination deck and patio, which features plenty of comfortable seating, wonderful views of the lake, and a table for outside dining. We had all out meals outdoors. A short stroll through a wooded area takes you to a platform on a dune, overlooking the lake. It's a great place to watch the sunsets. Walk down the stairs and across the dune and you're at another seating area, just above the lake. It was great for sitting out and the two year old in our group loved playing in the sand there. The beach is just below. It is all sand, with a generous sand bar about 30 or 40 yards out. Perfect for wading, swimming, and playing. The location is terrific; it is just about five minutes from a state park that features a smaller lake, an inlet that is ideal for younger kids to swim in, and a really nice Lake Michigan beach. The owners were very nice and offered great recommendations about restaurants and activities. (Try the fish boil; it's fun and the food was delicious.) Everyone in our group agreed that this property was a great value.
