About Kelly or Shannon Patterson

We built this beautiful home in 2008 it has the touch of elegance w/the feel of comfort & privacy to relax in the luxury of nature. We're fortunate to have this slice of heaven & careers that enable us to live here & travel abroad. We both love to travel & experience new adventures, then come back to our home for the peace that our slice of heaven provides us. We welcome others to share the bliss we feel each time we come back to the magic of this part of the island.

Kelly or Shannon Patterson purchased this house in 2008

Why Kelly or Shannon Patterson chose Puna District

This property is built in a wonderful development called Mauna Loa Estates. It is unique that the owner's here have 1/2 acre parcels to build on that offers privacy w/nature abound. We love the cool nights & warm days w/no humidity! The higher elevation makes our home virtually bug free.

What makes this house unique

We love that our home is built by us & that it's modern with a local Island feel. Our master bedroom is the place you can really spread out it's almost double the size of most bedrooms! The kitchen is great for entertaining, you can be part of the conversation with the open concept layout. Plenty of lights & overhead fans to spread the warmth & laughter. Our featured hot tub is probably one of our most treasured assets of the home.

A perfect location near the National Park.

  • 4 of 5

We had a good experience. The house was clean, the directions were clear. We received a refund for a non-functional hot tub. The beds were soft in my opinion, but that was just me. Otherwise, the location was great.

Lovely house, exactly as described.

  • 4 of 5

Nice location, just a few minutes from the national park. The house was clean and fully equipped. We especially enjoyed sitting on the covered lanai in the mornings, listening to all the jungle birds and sounds. The hot tub had broken just before our stay so we unfortunately didn't get to use it. The owners were responsive about helping us figure out the TV remote. A nice experience all around.

Overall: loved it! Just wasn't aware of the extra person charge (over 2)

  • 5 of 5

Anything we needed was at the house. Great location for the park and loved having a hot tub! Plenty of room for the 5 of us. I just wish I'd realized there was an extra person charge as we didn't go over the max of how many it slept. Other than that, no complaints! Thank you so much for opening up your home!

A great place to stay near Volcano National Park

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great time staying in this spacious house. We spent 5 nights here, exploring the national park, as well as the Hilo area. We would definitely stay at this house again. We did have two minor issues, one with the BBQ and one with the oven/range, but they were easily resolved and the owners were very responsive and friendly. We did not have any problems with the hot water, it just takes time to reach the shower/faucets.

The house is not far from the highway, but isolated enough that not many cars drive by, and you can't see any neighbors due to all the awesome vegetation. It's definitely like a little slice of peace and quiet in a rainforest; well, quiet except for all the bird and critter noises, but you can easily fall asleep with those as background noise (and when you close the windows it gets very quiet inside).

The umbrella over the hot tub is a nice touch if you're trying to manage your sun exposure, but still want to enjoy the hot tub after a lengthy morning hike. It was great!

My favorite part was being so very close to the park, so it's really easy and quick to wake up early and catch the pre-sunrise lava glow at Jaggar Overlook. Or catch the post-sunset version. Or both! You can check the park service webcams of the crater to see what it's doing, and then cruise over there in no time at all.

Mahalo!

Convenient Location & Comfy Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here w/ 2 couples and it was the perfect location for exploring the park as well as the Puna district. It was a short 2 mile drive to the park entrance, but still in a very quiet and private location. We felt like we weren't even in a neighborhood, but just surrounded by acres of rainforest. The home is very well stocked for cooking, beds are comfortable, and there was plenty of space to spread out. The hot tub was wonderful after long days of hiking. I would definitely recommend this home for groups up to 6.

Superb, cozy, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The outside front of the home is nice, but the back deck and inside make this an awesome hideaway. Yes, the hot tub was very nice. The master suite very comfortable as well as the rest of the rooms. The kitchen (as was the rest of the home) was very clean and comfortably designed with everything a homemaker needed. The washer/dryer were very conveniently located and in very nice condition.

This home is super conveniently located to the National Park. Coming back to this home each evening was like a soothing blanket. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend this home and owners. Thanks for making us feel welcomed!!
