About the property

Experience a memorable family/friends vacation in this lovely, lakeside home

Each evening, when on the Lake Champlain Islands in northern Vermont, enjoy being at your new lakefront home in South Hero with family and friends, to watch the sunset over the lake with the majestic Adirondack Mountains in the background. You will probably have your favorite beverage in hand while sitting in many prime locations watching this spectacular sunset. You can choose sitting in many prime locations watching this spectacular sunset. You may choose relaxing down at the plateau by the water's edge after building a fire in the pit, or putting up your feet on the chairs overlooking the split rail fences at the edge of the expansive lawn. Another night you might like swinging on the swing in the screened in porch or eating by torchlight out on the deck. Whatever you decide to do that evening, you probably will be reflecting upon the fun day you have had. You will have enjoyed the tranquility, peacefulness and privacy of your vacation house's location.

If you want to go indoors you will lounge around the three-bedroom home complete with oak wood floors. Two bedrooms are upstairs each having a queen size bed overlooking the Lake. They share a bathroom complete with a tub and shower. You can make meals on granite counter tops and in an up to date modern kitchen on the first floor while watching the lake. Or you might be enjoying your family in the dining room or watching TV while preparing or cleaning up your meals. The living room/dining room has a gas fire place overlooking the water. It also has a pull out sofa and a reclining double love seat. The furniture has high backs so they are very comfortable to watch your favorite TV

shows on the large flat-screened TV. A guest bedroom with a double bed is off the living room. There is a bathroom on this floor complete with a shower. Downstairs is the carpeted playroom with a pool table, ping pong table, a Nordic track, a treadmill and pull out sofa, to stretch out in. There is also a stationary bike inside.

The house is located about a 30-minute car drive from down town Burlington, the Burlington International Airport, St. Albans or a ferry ride to Plattsburg, VT. There are two local boat ramps to put your power or sails bats in close by. The vacation home is located near several state and private campgrounds if trying to plan outings with friends in the area.

You probably will not want to leave your idyllic vacation spot. Once you stock up on food, beverage and paper and soap products locally, you will be able to relax the remainder of the day and week.

There are so many activities to do in the Islands each week. You will have difficulty choosing. Most choices depend on the weather. Usually the temperature is in the 70 to 80 degree range throughout the whole summer. The sun shines brightly over the Islands. Because this house is located on an island, there is a longer growing season and usually have less snow and warmer temperatures in the winter and cooler ones in the summer than other locations in Vermont.

Just locally, there are also restaurants to dine at or take out from, or grocery stores to purchase all of your needs. Gas for your car and grill are less than a mile away so you can pursue all of your adventures.

There are gift shops to bring souveniers home, a fish hatchery to explore, a winery to imbibe, concerts to listen to, and farm animals to pet. Save room for ice cream cones to eat, visit local orchards and indulge in the state fruit pie, 'the apple pie. We even have a pharmacy, local library, Protestant and Catholic churches and a post office to name just a few.

If you want to have off Island adventures Montreal is an hour and a half away. Or closer still is touring and eating ice cream at the Ben and Jerry's Ice cream plant, exploring the Shelburne Museum, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and or the Echo Science Center. Have fun cruising above the mountains on the Stowe Gondola ride or making a bear at the Teddy Bear Factory. Children love petting the animals at the Shelburne Farms, while my favorite is combining this experience with eating breakfast at the Shelburne Inn over looking the water. It was built as summer mansion retreat for the Webb family. I love to eat at the restaurants lakeside in the Islands . It's much fun to indulge your taste buds in tasting wines at local wineries or tasting beer at their manufacturing breweries. So many choices and so little time, makes these your hardest decisions in you travel planning each day in this idyllic island lake front home. You will want to come back yearly. This spot will capture all your dreams and hopes in planning a perfect vacation time.

The Lake in front of this house has been here for millions of years. It has had a rich history. Learn more about its importance because of its location throughout times, when it was a sea, and when the Abenaki Native Americans first settled it. Travel through times during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to name just a few. There are many near by spots that will aid you in your endeavors to appreciate its history and geographical importance even more.

About Lake View Rentals, Elaine Sinclair-Fowler

Hello, I am a recent retired educator. I love living here in the Islands as well as traveling to visit family and friends though out the year. I would love to have you stay at my home while I am away to share this picture perfect location with you. I am confident, my new friends, that you will be respectful to my home, its grounds, and neighbors. I have lived in South Hero for over thirty years and raised my family in this town.

What ever your age, there are so many different activities to do. Once you leave the island and drive back across the cause way you will feel that you are leaving the outside world behind and coming home. Because there are only 600,000 people living in the state of Vermont you will feel connected with people in businesses and government throughout the state. There are only 1,000 people living in this town of South Hero and 4,500 people in the other 4 Islands. When you leave the state and see that green license plate you feel an immediate connection to the people in in.

I have allergies so I like a dust free, dogs and cat free home. I have spent much time, energies, and money upgrading the house in this perfect location. The house can be rented out weekly in the summer. It can also be by months in the winter college semester schedule, perfect for sabbaticals. Please contact me if you are interested. I can negotiate long term rentals and dates. I have a team of reliable, knowledgeable and responsible professionals that will assist you during your stay if you have any problems.

Lake View Rentals, Elaine Sinclair-Fowler purchased this house in 1999

Why Lake View Rentals, Elaine Sinclair-Fowler chose Lake Champlain

I bought this home and 100 feet of prime easily accessible water front and settled in this area because of its uniqueness of Island living in rural Vermont. One you see your first sunset while swinging on the swing bench on the screened in porch you also will be hooked.

I taught school for over thirty years and no matter what the day was like I could come home and relax at this spectacular spot. I also am half owner of the local newspaper, 'The Islander.' My husband and I looked around New England for newspapers to buy and this location was the best.

When the house was purchased, the lake side of the property was covered with trees. I had some of them cut down to maximize the view from every window inside the house. I also wanted to keep the trees to provide shade for the house so it would be cooler in the summer. When you open the windows you can hear lapping of the lake water on the rocks below.

When taking a commercial plane ride, hot air balloon ride or a seaplane ride over this property you will see and feel why Vermont and why I chose this location on the Lake Champlain Islands.

Also when zooming down the lake in a power boat or exploring the many beaches and restaurants along the water, these experiences will reinforce why I have chosen this property to make my home and you will love it for a vacation spot year after year.

South Hero is a warm friendly community. The two churches are welcoming. People go out of their ways to be friendly, helpful and kind, whether a shop keeper or a local. We have a volunteer fire and rescue squad. Many volunteers are needed to keep all the organizations in town going.

This house and location are a perfect, idyllic, recreational vacation spot to escape on an island accessible by roads, a ferry and or a boat.

What makes this house unique

The Island lakeside property is in a quiet neighborhood and the neighbors are awesome. Thus this is not a noisy, wild party house , but a home to enjoy family and friends while vacationing together.

Since I have owned the house I have put in many upgrades every year. You will love the screened in porch, the deck, the open kitchen floor plan to see the lake view and the carpeted playroom. Thus my new friends I know you will appreciate each addition while being respectful to its care.

Being able to swim outside your home, once, twice or three times a day makes the days cool and refreshing. Also heading out in my kayaking adds to the variety of outdoor activities I can and you can do independently.

There are so many outdoor activities to do. You, your friends and family will love its variety. Visitors can even horse back ride, fly kites, mountain climb, or hunt. In the winter, snow shoeing, cross country skiing , and down hill skiing abounds. You will enjoy the ease and fun of doing a wide variety of activities throughout the year.

Terrific Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

Sue and I spent 2 weeks here and we hated to leave. The house is definitely up-scale, modern, and spotlessly clean. There are neighbors on both sides, but existing greenery makes for total privacy. We met the neighbors---------very nice people, quiet and friendly.

We were only 2 most of the time, but the house would comfortably accommodate a family and kids.

We are both familiar with Grand Isle, and we took advantage of the great restaurants there, plus live music at the winery, the air show at Shore Acres, etc., etc. A variety of stores are conveniently located nearby.

The screened-in porch is a real plus, and the sunsets are wonderful.

This is a perfect summer retreat and we definitely plan to return .

The Lake Champlain Islands offer many varied natural and manmade attractions and activities.

Visitors can use the local paper,' the Islander', and its 'Vacation Guide' and the Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce to plan just what each member of the family would like to do.

Besides all the fun activities listed above there are many more a few miles away, less than an hour's drive. Each day's activities depends on the weather and what people like to do. Throughout the summer, temperatures range in the late 70s to mid 80s. Most days are sunny and gorgeous. Many visitors have stayed at this Island retreat and all find the activities they wish to do.

Because the lake water where this vacation home is located on the west shore open broad lake, the water is very clean right outside your door. You will want to spend much time in it. The lake temperature rises to swimmable opportunities usually from the end of May to mid September. Use the convenient dock and ladder to access it. If you prefer a sandy beach for the little ones the Sand Bar State Park is a few miles away.

If you like fishing there are many opportunities for both lake and river fly fishing. Lake Champlain is know worldwide for its outstanding fishing with its wide varieties of fish because of the depths of Lake Champlain. At the end of the dock it's about 5 or 6 feet.

You will want to bring a camera as it is so pretty here. Each view is another moment to capture. You want to remember all the happy memories you will have staying at this vacation home. You will listen to the many birds calling throughout the day. There are places to walk and hike in the area. Right at the end of your driveway is a quiet dirt road that gives other views of the lake; A few miles away is the Lake Champlain Rails to Trails bike paths. One route takes you out onto Lake Champlain and the absolutely the most beautiful spot in the world. You can travel to many places in the world but will always want to come back here to this beautiful spot. There are many scenic drives as well.

Everything you do outside in this lovely home, is more special because of its natural beauty. Here are just a few other suggestions:relaxing, reading and or writing on the lawn or porch furniture; Eating out in the screened porch or on the deck at night. With the torches lit, you will enjoy a perfect romantic evening. You can create a home cooked meal from the modern kitchen or buy take out from local grocery stores, take outs or restaurants. There are many outstanding lake side restaurants throughout the Islands, too; You will have fun trying many different local wines and or beers to compliment your meals. Farmers' Markets are held weekly to pick up farm fresh vegetables and baked goods to enhance your food planning's variety.

Any activities you participate in whether the arts or musical events, they will fell more special because of the surroundings. You can do things on your own or participate in a variety of classes offered throughout the year, from star gazing to jazz in doors or outsize. Island Arts offers many classes and concerts throughout the year. Each Thursday night and other select times go to the Snow Farm Winery bring a picnic or pick up something there and enjoy a free concert sitting on their lawn. There is plenty of dancing for the whole family.

Children love petting the farm animals at Apple Farm Market and buying a creamy. They also love to see the fish at the Fish Hatchery in South Hero. Mostly they could spend hours at the beach. It's safe to let the teen agers roam about, and they will love the water activities and other outdoor nature experiences. There will be guides and books at the house to help you plan many adventures.

Many adults just like to do nothing at all, while sitting indoors or out, every season of the year. You will enjoy looking at the ever changing mountain, lake, and trees views on Lake Champlain.
