Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

This is a house in the village with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom.

Please contact us before making reservation.

The Austin House is located in a small coastal village in a very rural area of Maine. This is a quiet place, close to many scenic areas and parks that offer places for all kinds of outdoor activities. The home was an Inn during the latter part of the 19th century owned by the local blacksmith, Moses Austin. The home was completely renovated in 2010, preserving most of the original Greek revival architecture. It is a cozy place to just sit on the front porch and watch the tide come in and out. The location is convenient for sight seeing in either direction as it is only an hour from most major attractions from Bar Harbor to Campobella Island.

The home is completely equipped with everything you will need for your stay. All linens and towels are provided. The kitchen contains everything you may need for cooking. Lawn chairs are provided for sitting in the back yard, and rocking chairs for sitting on the front porch.

The home is just 5 minutes from Hwy 1 - so easy access to the highway for sightseeing trips. There is a grocery store just 5 minutes away on Hwy 1 as well as a hardware store, so you can easily pick up food on the way home when you are cooking.

Live lobster can be purchased directly from the wharf down in South Addison just a 15 minute drive.

Terrific place, great hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for a family wedding, and used Lynne and John's house in Addison for a long weekend. We were there with our two adult kids, their partners, and an infant grandchild.

The house is terrific. Everything was very clean, and the place is well

appointed. John and Lynne were very helpful.

Great place, great people.

Owner's Response: We do not have a TV in our house as most vacationers prefer the peaceful and relaxing quiet of the front porch. We do have wifi internet which is very reliable and most vacationers bring a laptop and can watch movies and TV from the internet. We provide a TV that is connected to a VCR and a DVD player in order to play movies and we have a collection of movies for rainy days. We do now have a microwave. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full set of stainless steel cooking pans and pots, a lobster pot, and all of the utensils and dishes needed for cooking a full meal.

Comfortable stay in Addison, Maine

  • 4 of 5

We booked for 4th July long weekend. John & Lynne, owners of beautiful cottage had to wait past 10 pm to hand over keys as we made it late due to heave traffic. We had a comfortable stay, John & Lynne made a point to explain each and everything about cottage and they also shared there experience with best nearby places to visit. Amenities and location of the cottage is as per description.

Thanks John & Lynne for making our stay warm & comfortable.

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having Kumar and his friends stay and didn't mind at all waiting for them. We want to make sure our guests feel welcome when they arrive and understand how everything in the house works. The area has a lot to offer to visitors and we hope to be able to offer our visitors suggestions for activities based on their interests and time constraints.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

The house is great, newly renovated with a lot of love. Very confortable, extremely clean. The owners have a special attention to all the little details.

The area is quiet but it is nice to have the occasion to feel the authentic Maine outside the tourist traffic.

Beautiful home in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this home last August to escape the extreme heat and humidity of the Florida summer. The Austin House impeccable, we loved the decor of every room, not the tiniest detail was overlooked in this home. Each room has hand painted floors, and everything we could dream of needing. We especially loved the large claw foot tub in the bathroom for bubble bath soaking after a long day of hiking through picturesque trails and beaches. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything to cook a feast, and there was even a garden in the front yard where we picked fresh veggies, and an herb garden in back for seasoning. We spent our evenings rocking on the front porch in old restored rocking chairs. The neighborhood is quaint and friendly, we walked down the street to get lobsters by the dozen for cheaper than you can imagine. Near the home was whale watching, wild blueberry picking, and don't forget to pick up a whoopie pie! We can't wait for our next visit to Maine, we will be renting the Austin House again!

Our house is about a half hour drive from the Schoodic part of Acadia National Park and about 1 hr and 20 minutes from the Mount Desert Island part of Acadia Park. In addition, we have many conservation areas and state recreation parks within a half hour drive that have beautiful coastal views, hiking trails, and access to the water for kayaking or beach activities. These include Petit Manan Wildlife area just outside of Milbridge where you will find a beautiful hike up Pigeon Hill with views of the coast, Tunk Mountain hiking trails just outside of Cherryfield, Wass Island off of Jonesport where there are several miles of coastal hiking on Nature Conservancy land, and the Cutler wildlife areas with hikes to the coast, and Roques Bluff State Park which has a very large beach and hiking trails. There are also several boat tours that leave from Milbridge, Lubec, and Bar Harbor, including one from Addison to view Puffins and whales , and take in the lobster fishing.
