About Lisa Harris
My husband and I currently live just outside of Blowing Rock. We love the mountains and love to hike, ride motorcycles and just enjoy the view. We want to introduce other people to this wonderful place. I am an interior designer by trade and have worked in the building industry and the furniture industry for years. It comes natural to me to create beautiful spaces for people to live.

Why Lisa Harris chose Blowing Rock
Blowing Rock and the mountains of North Carolina have a special place in my heart. It is an intensely spiritual place and being of Native American heritage, I find that I am at peace here. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have lived in North Carolina all my life but I didn't move here until 2001. It took me that long to get to Gods country!
What makes this Bungalow unique
I love coming into this home with its amazing views! The world just slows down when I am relaxing on the decks or in front of the fireplace. It is a quiet place even though it is close to town. We have added extra insulation in all the walls so that you don't hear the hustle and bustle of the outside world. We named this place Elkstone because the original home that was here had special Elkstone rock fireplaces in it. Elkstone is a native rock to this area and you can still see remnants of this stone in the old outside fire pit and in the old stone wall in front of the house. We used this as inspiration when we selected lamps, art work etc. We found an old antique antler chandelier from a castle in Germany that is gracing the entryway. We also found a special lighting sconce from the Mayview Manor which was an old grand hotel that used to be in Blowing Rock. We have tried to stay true to the traditions and history of Blowing Rock.

This is our 2nd visit and the view never gets old. We could sit outside for days and never get tired of it. We will be back again. Great location as well. We walked our dogs into town everyday. It is about 1.5 miles to get into town and is a lovely walk.
Thank you for coming back to see us this year! I'm glad to know about the walk. I've been meaning to walk into town myself and just have gotten around to doing it, so I'm glad that you shared that information. Now that the highway project is over I see that they are planting some lovely trees along the boulevard that will really make the walk even better. They will be planting in front of our house as well.
What a wonderful property!
This was our first visit to Blowing Rock. We've always had good experiences with VRBO and this was no exception. Elkstone was one of the nicest properties we have stayed in. Beautifully furnished, well maintained, clean, and stocked with necessities (trash bags, dish soap, paper towels, etc.). What an amazing view from the back of this property. We enjoyed most sitting on the patio in late afternoon/early evenings while our dog explored the fenced yard. We loved that there was a bird feeder and that we could refill it when it was empty! Location is so convenient, and so easy to access the house compared to the challenging driveways of so many houses in the area. Most days we enjoyed walking our dog around nearby Bass Lake. We packed picnic lunches and explored the Blue Ridge Parkway. Grandfather Mountain State Park is not far away and we had a blast crossing the "mile high swing bridge"! There is some road noise out front from passing traffic, and we could hear it in the bedroom, but it did not interfere with our sleep, and was not an issue out back, where we spent most of our time. Lisa was welcoming and made sure we knew we could text her with any questions. We had a great stay and would highly recommend Elkstone!
I was very impressed by the property overall. I would stay again.
The place was great. The house was very clean, spacious and newly remodeled. The house had the best views around and was also very close to the downtown area. The only issue was the proximity to a major road and the traffic noise.
Thank you for your review and especially your comment about staying here again. We try very hard to make our guests as comfortable as possible. Elkstone is in the village of Blowing Rock and when the weather warms up there are a lot of visitors to the area so there is more noise. The house is very well insulated so there is not much noise when you are in the house and it is quite peaceful on the view side with perfect viewing of Grandfather on the stone patio. Thank you for coming and we welcome you back anytime!
Breath taking view from comfortable backyard.
We absolutely loved this home and the beautiful view of continuous mountains from back. There were four adults and it was plenty spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. We did have to buy ice. The home had a newly remodeled smell and was decorated splendidly. It did take me ( light sleeper) awhile to get use to the noise of busy 321 hwy at night...no one else seemed to mind though. The back of the house and yard were very accommodating and view so majestic we never wanted to leave! As far as walking to the shops downtown we felt it was too far and opted for a quick drive there. Do not forget to bring a hat as the sun shines brightly and beautifully on the rolling mountains. You will be reminded of how small we truly are while gazing at God’s creation.
Beautiful, panoramic cottage. Separate living quarters for two families. Beautiful kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, and den with an excellent fireplace. No steep driveways and easy access to main roads if it snows. We hope to be able to return.
Amazing house on amazing property close to all amenities
We spent New Year’s Eve here with our two young children and dog. The property had a completely fenced back yard which was perfect for letting our toddler and dog explore. The house was just down the street from restaurants and downtown blowing rock. Boone was a short ten to fifteen minute drive too. Lots of options for hiking and dining. We have stayed in the mountains at various houses over the last five years and this was our favorite by far.
