About the Property

5 BR, 3 bath, private pool, great outdoor spaces. Less than 5 min.walk to beach!

We purchased the property in the Fall of 2013. She was a little dated and needed some TLC. This is our 3rd beach house renovation in the area. We loved this house because of her west mid-island location on a corner lot with easy beach access. The street is on one of the public beach access points and the house is a very short walk away from the public beach access (less than five minutes). You can also view the marsh from the property - so you have the best of both worlds. In the summer high season - staying a few rows back from busy 1st Street can be a lot more peaceful and quiet at night.

The home is a two-story 90's era home featuring an open concept living area, dining area and kitchen in the center of the house. There is a large deck and screened porch on the front and a large deck overlooking the pool on the back. A rooftop deck offers 360 degree views of the island - including the ocean and marsh and even the bridge in the distance.

The first floor houses the living & dining rooms and kitchen. This area was updated with beautiful new hardwood floors. We gave the kitchen modern updates like stainless steel appliances and 'Pebble Beach' quartz counter tops. On the first floor you will find two master BRs complete with king sized beds and private bathrooms. The second floor has 2 BRs with queens that share a large, double vanity bath. The 'bunk room' has two bunk beds to sleep four guests. The bedrooms have neutral carpet and paint and are decorated in the colors of the sand, sun and surf - nice and relaxing. We have used some fun nautical touches in our decor like vintage water skis, oars and life rings to add to the coastal feel. All BRs have their own flat screen TVs and ceiling fans and the house also has WIFI in the event you must access your laptop or other devices! (But we encourage relaxation!)


Our philosophy is to offer spacious and comfortable bedrooms and not to 'cram' multiple beds in each room. However, there is plenty of floor space in each BR for sleeping bags or blow up mattresses if you would like to bring those for additional guests. We also have a full size sofa in LR. (NOT a pullout.)

On the front of the house, there is a large porch with rockers and a screened porch with additional seating areas for relaxing. The second story has an outside stairwell leading up to a rooftop deck where you can take in the ocean and marsh views. You can see water in every direction from up top. The back deck overlooks your private pool. Southern Comfort has a ton of outdoor living space! (Every BR except the Bunk Room has deck or balcony access.)

Ahhhh...The Pool! The pool is gated and fenced for privacy. It features a 'waterfall' and the trickling water sound will melt your cares away! There are lounge chairs for sunning by the pool. The pool is open, maintained and treated year-round (unheated). We have a charcoal grill in this area and a shady spot under the deck so you can sit out of the sun if needed and watch the swimmers!

There is an outdoor shower stall in the pool area. You can conveniently rinse off the sand before you hit the pool or enter the house. The laundry area is in the garage just outside of the pool area which makes dumping sandy suits and towels convenient. We like to hop in outdoor shower, drop bathing suits and beach towels in the laundry room and leave the sand outside!

There is ample shaded parking under the house and more space in the pebbled driveway. We think we have the perfect spot to enjoy your visit to OIB!

  • Each BR is beautifully decorated and offers a relaxing retreat. The two main level masters have king sized beds, private baths, TVs, ceiling fans and deck access. The upstairs queen BRs share a bath - each queen BR has it's own balcony, TV and ceiling fan. The 'Bunk Room' sleeps 4 and is located upstairs and shares bath with queen BRs. It has it's own TV and ceiling fan. King and Queen BRs are spacious and have room for sleeping bags/twin blow ups (renters bring their own as needed). Location

Once you cross the bridge over onto Ocean Isle Beach, the house is located on the west side of the island. From the property, you are a short walk (less than 5 minutes) to the public beach access walkway and you are on the beach. The pier is a 10-15 minute walk via side walk or beach walk. When you are not relaxing on the beach or enjoying the private pool at the house, you can play putt putt, fish off the pier, visit numerous ice cream & surf shops and restaurants and bars.

If you have golfers in your group - you will be delighted with the numerous area courses. Favorite courses include River's Edge in Shallotte, The Thistle in Sunset Beach, Sea Trail in Sunset Beach, Tiger's Eye in Ocean Ridge Plantation and Glendornoch in Little River SC. (All very close - 10-15 minute drives.)

Seafood restaurants are bountiful. There are several on the island and MANY others within a short 10-15 minute drive to Calabash NC. Our family loves The Boundary House in Calabash and the Inlet View (between OIB and Shallotte) where you can dine overlooking the waterway and see Holden Beach - another area island). We also love the Sugar Shack - a Jamaican inspired local restaurant just back over the bridge. For lunch, we love a visit to The Purple Onion in Shallotte - and there is a movie theater in Shallotte as well. The Causeway Gourmet is another wonderful local restaurant (take out available and delivery too) just back over the bridge. Everything on the menu is wonderful and they make great desserts! Pizza delivery available too. We have a complete information book in the house - complete with various area restaurant menus.

There is a grocery store within 5 minutes of the house and a local convenience store (Sheffield's) on the island. The local ABC store is near Lowe's Grocery Store.

Into fishing? You can fish off the pier or charter a trip at the Ocean Isle Fishing Center. Surf fishing is also fun! In the info book, you will find information for Windy Point Nautical Adventures and Captain Scott. He is a local boat captain who will take you shelling, tubing or on a relaxing boat ride around the area.

There are cute shops in the area and there is a Tanger Outlet within a 30 minute drive to North Myrtle Beach SC. Barefoot Landing in NMB is also a popular entertainment destination. The House of Blues and other attractions and shopping are located there.

You can head north for a day trip to Wilmington NC. Wilmington is the 'Hollywood of NC' - many films and TV shows are filmed there. You can also visit the Battleship North Carolina and stroll the downtown area. The town of Southport is about 30 minutes away and it has a lot of cute shops, good waterfront restaurants, historic homes and light houses to see. Bald Head Island is a ferry ride from Southport.

We love the versatility of staying on a small island that isn't too 'commercial' and offers a small town feel. If we want a change of pace, there are MANY things to do within 30 minutes of OIB as previously described.

About the owner: My husband and I are both North Carolina natives and met in college. I am the nature lover and am content to be outside all day - on the beach, on the porch or at the pool! My husband is a GOLF FANATIC! He loves the area for the wonderful golf courses. We own a real estate company in Winston-Salem and have a lot of experience with managing our own rental properties as well as those of our clients. When we choose a vacation property, we want to feel as comfortable in the rental as we do in our own home. We have put a lot of TLC into this home and hope you will feel it is your home away from home!

Why the Owner Chose Ocean Isle Beach, NC, USA:
I started coming to Ocean Isle Beach when I was a kid. In fact, my high school girlfriends and I make a trip back every year. It has always been my dream to own a place in the area and I have a passion for decorating and renovating houses. My family and I love the small town feel of Ocean Isle - but we also like that you can make a trip to the Myrtle Beach or Wilmington areas in 30-45 minutes for a change of pace. There is something for everyone in the area - water, golf, shopping, great dining, relaxation. From the moment you drive over the bridge onto the island, you will feel the cares of the world melt away! We purchased the house in the Fall of 2013 and have loved renovating it. The house needed some updates but had great bones. We've given it the 'modern creature comforts' you want in a home away from home. When we found out the lot was big enough to install a pool - we were thrilled. It is a wonderful addition! The location is a short walk to the beach or the marsh and is located on a public beach access street.

This home has an interior that is completely updated, inviting, comfortable and spacious. If you love outdoor spaces - this house is for you! Sun on the roof deck, rock on the front porch, have drinks on the screened porch or swim in the pool! This house lives large because of all of the outdoor spaces. I have timed my walk down the street until my toes hit the sand and it's less than 5 minutes! New in 2015 - an accessible public beach access point with ramp (no stairs) is one street over. It is super convenient if you need to wheel a stroller or pull a wagon. Adds maybe two minutes to your walk. Our goal is to help you enjoy your vacation. We have an Info Book in the house with area restaurant menus and activities. We're always happy to help you with suggestions if you are not familiar with the area already.
