Lovely private cottage located in the big, serene backyard behind my home in the Berkeley Hill's exclusive and beautiful tree-lined neighborhood, within easy walking distance to downtown Berkeley, just 4 blocks to the University of California campus, just 4 blocks from the 'Gourmet Ghetto', and a quick 20-minute drive to downtown San Francisco. Best neighborhood in the Berkeley Hills!
More specifically, we are located in the Berkeley Hills--the safest and most affluent neighborhood in Berkeley, a neighborhood in which the average household income is over $100,000 per year, compared to just $57,000 per year for Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood, for example; yet we are just 0.3 miles from UC Berkeley's North Side entrance, 0.3 miles from the shuttle bus to MSRI and Lawrence Berkeley Labs, 0.3 miles from the Gourmet Ghetto, 0.3 miles from Andronico's store for organic food, 0.4 miles from the Safeway store for food, 0.5 miles from the Berkeley Hills Rose Garden, 0.8 miles from the Greek Theater, 0.9 miles from the Downtown Berkeley BART station, 1 mile from the North Berkeley BART station, and 13 miles from Downtown San Francisco. In addition, we are just about 378 feet from the #65 bus stop which takes you to the Downtown Berkeley BART Station or downtown when going down the hill, or the #65 bus can take you to the spacious Tilden Park, or to the Lawrence Hall of Science if you are into seeing math and science exhibits when traveling up the hill. Some of the other listings in the Berkeley Hills are much farther from everything, so our location is not only safe and affluent, but also convenient, because it is easy to get around from this location, instead of from Berkeley Hill locations that are miles away from just about everything.
This quiet, secluded cottage with rear deck and fragrant garden has no steps, and is within easy walking distance of the famous Berkeley Rose Garden, a vast array of wonderful restaurants (including world-renowned Chez Panisse; the very popular Cheese Board pizzeria; Asian, European, Indian, Mexican, and other international cuisine; delicatessens; cafes and coffee shops), grocery shopping, the Berkeley Farmer's Market, banking, post office...and more!
Downtown Berkeley is an easy 10-minute walk, and just several minutes by car or bicycle. Public transportation is convenient and abundant, with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations and AC Transit bus lines nearby.
There is plenty of available on-street parking, and you also receive an off-street space in the driveway for your parking convenience.
We also provide access to a washer and dryer for washing all your bed sheets, covers, and any laundry you need washed. In this way, you will be able to make up your bed with fresh linen. In addition, we supply free Tide detergent, bleach, as well as continental breakfast, such as muffins, strudel, donuts, fruit, and croissants.
The cottage includes full kitchen, full bath with shower, cable tv with HBO and other networks, Netflix, dedicated Internet and WI-FI, and offers a quiet, safe, secure place for studying, visiting friends and/or touring.
New additions to the cottage include a brand-new Malibu love seat and ottoman that convert into a full-size bed, a Weber barbecue pit, an outdoor picnic table with four matching chairs and umbrella, a brand-new queen-size bed, and a brand-new shower door for the bathroom.
There are spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge from this property. And the Educator/Teacher neighbors are very friendly and nice!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Thank you for your interest. I look forward to your visit!
I would stay here again. The host is the best!
We booked this cottage months in advance of our trip to Berkeley for a concert and we are so happy that we did. This cottage is very lovely, quaint, quiet and clean. There is everything you need to enjoy a nice time in the Berkeley Hills area. The location is terrific and things are close enough by to take walks to places to visit. There are plenty of places close by to eat at. The neighborhood is old Berkeley, with established trees and gardens everywhere.
We intend on staying at this cottage if we ever have a need to go back to Berkeley. Greg set-up the cottage and we found that to be clean, neat, in order and there was not anything that we wished we would have had. He thought of everything and that made our stay even more special.
If you are looking for fancy uppity hotel accommodations, then go to the city and pay for that there. This is for down to earth people that have a need for an affordable, clean, comfortable place to stay and do not mind not having maids and bell hops bothering you. We were looking for peacefulness and we found that here in this cottage on lovely grounds of lush gardens. Wonderful place!
When I booked this cottage well in advance, the reviews had been OK, when I checked VRBO, a few days before my arrival, I saw Maria G.'s 1 star review. I called the property manager Gregory and asked if the review description was correct. He didn't seem to think it was. I mentally prepared myself for condition of cottage. Maria G.'s 1 star review was very accurate, right down to the "still cleaning" even though I left & came back 3 hours later. This property has so much potential. I gave 2 stars instead of 1, because Gregory is a very kind human being. He was nice enough to offer ride to get groceries & showed me how to work TV/cable. and because the safety/location of the neighborhood is great.
The cottage is extremely small and didn't have the cleanest feel, but it is tucked in a real nice area. It functioned as we needed and offered us privacy. The bed was comfortable. Really nice owner.
We were in town for medical appointment in San Francisco and Berkeley. This cottage was anything but lovely. From the moment we drove up we saw a stack of old mattresses, old shop vacuum, wheelbarrow and other debris right outside the door. When we arrived Greg was still "cleaning" even though we arrived approx. 1 1/2 hours late due to traffic. The fridge had old food, windows had torn or no screens, old stained worn out bedding (not 100% sure the bedding was even clean), there was a musty mildew smell, the stove pilot light kept going out giving a gas odor when my husband relit the pilot it looked like the stove or oven had not been cleaned in years. Bathroom had many different used bars of soap, shampoo bottles, sponges, used toothpaste and toothbrushes. There was no water pressure from the shower. We were extremely disappointed all around however we did feel safe and was quiet we were planning on staying 5 nights however when we were able to condense or doctors appointments into 1 1/2 days we high tailed it out of there. The cottage has potential but the owner needs to put some work and money into.
