My company has offices in nearby Sherman Oaks, and my assistants are also available to attend to urgent matters. I live in Europe, and can be reached via phone or email.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

In the early 60s, the Los Angeles River, which provides the north border of the neighborhood, flooded. For weeks, residents could only access their homes by boat, bringing about the neighborhood's name: The Island.

Though a risk of the river flooding no longer exists, The Island maintains a secluded, private feel for its residents. While a convenient 15-minute walk to Universal Studios and the Universal City Metro Station, and a short drive to the junction of the 101, 134, and 170 freeways, The Island is made secluded by the river bordering it to the north and the ample-sized South Weddington Park to the south and west.

Many of our neighbors are in the entertainment industry, and enjoy The Island for both its tranquil atmosphere and convenience to all LA has to offer.

GETTING AROUND

The Universal City/Studio City Red Line Metro station is a 15-minute walk from the house.

The Metro station is one stop from the Heart of Hollywood at Hollywood/Highland, home to the Dolby Theater, Mann's Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, El Capitan Theater, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and much more.

The Metro station also provides a gateway to Downtown L.A. (Staples Center), Santa Monica (Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach), Wilshire Boulevard, LAX, and much more.

The house is less than 5 minutes driving from the junction of the 101, 134, and 170 freeways.

The house is a 5-minute drive from the nearest supermarket and shopping center, as well as the Toluca Lake shopping district on Riverside Drive.

The house is a 10-minute drive from Warner Brothers and Disney Studios, as well as Studio City's shopping district on Ventura Boulevard.

The house is a 15-minute drive from Burbank Bob Hope International Airport.

1) NOISE

Quiet hours at the property are Sunday-Thursday, 10PM - 7AM; and Friday-Saturday, 11PM - 7AM. Once these hours begin, please bring all outside activities indoors (including all activity in, by, or around the pool) and refrain from excessively loud music or noises that may permeate the walls of the house. 

We live in the suburbs and share walls with the homes of several families, including a neighbor who lives in the guest house by the pool. WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR VIOLATION OF OUR QUIET HOURS. Any noise complaint we receive is grounds for immediate eviction and a refund on the remaining nights on your reservation.

2) PARKING

One car fits comfortably in the garage, and one car fits comfortably in the driveway. Please do not break anything in the garage or block the sidewalk in parking; the latter is subject to a ticket from the city. Per city rules, parking on our street is not allowed Monday-Friday 8AM - 6PM. Additional parking is available in the lot behind the baseball field at South Weddington Park, just south of the property.

3) POOL OPERATION

Please turn off the pool heater and jets after usage. Leaving the heater on causes the pool's chlorine to dissipate much more rapidly, resulting in water that's murky, filmy, and unfit for swimming. Leaving on the jets can cause the pool and spa to drain completely overnight! Any party that leaves the pool in a condition unsafe for swimming will be subject to a $100 post-stay fee.

4) SMOKING

Though smoking is allowed on the pool deck and front patio, it is NOT allowed at any time inside the house. Any party leaving behind odors from smoking will be subject to post-stay fees not already included in the rental rate and cleaning fee.

5) PETS

Pets are permitted to stay at the house; we only ask that you pick up after them. A dog bed in the lounge area is available for use. Any party leaving behind odors or stains from pets or any other pet-related damage will be subject to post-stay fees not already included in the rental rate and cleaning fee.

6) TRASH

Please find alternative methods of disposing your excess trash and recyclables if it exceeds the capacity of our black trash and blue recycling bins. Please do not dispose of trash or recycling in the green yard waste bin. Any party leaving behind trash and/or recyclables that exceeds the capacity of our bins will be subject to post-stay fees not already included in the rental rate and cleaning fee.

7) GLITTER

No products containing glitter can be used on the property. Any party leaving glitter on the property upon checking out will be subject to a $100 post-stay fee.

8) CHECK-OUT

We need to begin cleaning and preparing the property immediately at 11AM so the property can be fully ready for our next guests’ arrival. Please have your entire party checked out and off the property by 11AM so we can do this. We are sometimes able to grant a later check-out time if such is requested in advance.

9) LAST NOTE

As long as our neighbors don't hear you, nothing is broken or damaged, nothing illegal occurs on the property, and your party is off the property by your check-out time, you'll generally be OK. Have fun, relax, and make yourself at home. :) -- Thanks, Amie, Jason, and Phil

I live in Bulgaria where I have a movie studio where I produce films for Sony, Universal, Fox, Lifetime Channel and many other channels and companies around the world. If you look up my name in under Phillip J. Roth you can see the list of over the 100 movies I have produced, directed and written to date. My passion is skiing and I still compete on an international level in Eastern Europe where I am the only American racing and representing the United States in Eastern zero percent. Some of these ski races have taken me to Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia, Greece, Romania and I was even invited to compete in Iran but was prevented to attend because the Iranians wouldn't give me a visa, but my team did go and had a very interesting time skiing some very challenging mountains. My other passion Is wake-boarding in which I do mainly on a local lake called Iskra near Sofia, a local cable park or in the Greek isles. I am married to Ekaterina Roth, a former model and is a 3x winner of Mrs. Bulgaria, representing Bulgaria in various international contests in Orlando, Palm Springs and The Domican Republic. We have 2 girls 8 and 3 and I have a son and daughter 16 and 25. All were raised and went to high school here in Bulgaria. We rarely get back to the states so I hope you enjoy the house. Great home!

Great home! Yes, you can walk to the tram that takes you to Universal studios. Grocery store and restaurants near by. Our stay included two families, 4 adults, 5 teenagers. The house had plenty of towels, dishes and room to spread out in. We would stay here again.

If cleanliness is a factor...

You could actually walk to Universal. There is actually a pool. It does have an open floor plan. They did do a great job of staging the photos to show the house. The house was not very clean. The dishes and silverware needed to be washed. The pool is very small. The pool deck is in disrepair. The bed covering was stained. The closets were full of baby stuff. I hung my clothes on a plastic rack next to the bed. The dressers were stuffed with old sheets and pillows. The heat did work. The television worked.

Owner's Response: Tobias: We supervised our cleaning service's full service of the house prior to your check-in. | Following your check-in, the only issue with cleanliness you mentioned was the pool deck not being swept up for leaves. Your family arrived in Los Angeles on a windy day. The wind blows leaves onto the pool deck. | All dishes and silverware were cleaned and put away prior to your check-in. If you stay with us in the future, we'd appreciate your party not throwing away provided silverware and cooking utensils in the trash, as they did during their stay. | The dimensions of the pool and hot tub were noted on our listing prior to you completing your booking. We do not know what you mean as to the pool deck being in disrepair. One of the bed coverings had a now-removed chlorine stain that was not on it prior to your family's arrival. | One of the closets in our second bedroom includes a car seat, high chair, portable pack and play, and crib sheets, which we provide free of charge to all of our guests. We also provide an additional set of sheets and pillows in each bedroom for guests to use as well as additional blankets, sheets, pillows, and pillowcases located on shelves in the back of the master bathroom. The adjacent master bedroom includes an empty wardrobe, empty shelving unit, and empty walk-in closet for guests to store their belongings. | We provide a rack with hangers in our third bedroom, as there is no closet in this room. We're surprised you had issues hanging your clothes on this rack as you stated several times that it was your family, not yourself, who was staying on the property. | If you choose to stay with us in the future, we would also appreciate you following our check-out instructions, which include locking all doors prior to your departure. | Thanks, Jason and Amie

Wonderful experience

This place was far better than what we expected. We were greeted by Amie who was so lovely. She gave us a quick little tour of the house and how to use the outside facilities.The house was perfect for what we were looking for. We had a group of six ladies and we all enjoyed our stay so much. The beds were so comfortable, kitchen was stocked with all the utensils/cookware we needed, outside pool area was nice and cozy. Amie was so helpful with recommendations and questions about the house all weekend. The only downfall was some difficulties with the heat in the hot tub but Amie sent the pool guy out to take a look at it and we got to enjoy soaking our feet in it on our last morning (great after our 4 hour hike to the Hollywood sign). We had a lovely stay and would recommend anyone traveling to LA to book this spot. Lovely, safe area, and very close to several destinations. Enjoy :)

Really cute house that is close to everything but still in a quiet calm neighborhood. Beautiful home

So much we wanted to see and this lovely house was right in the middle of all we had planned. Just blocks away from Universal Studios it allowed for us to go all day and then return to a nice tranquil place at the end of the day. A pleasure to stay there and Amie and her husband were amazing on making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our trip. We will be back to stay at this wonderful house again

Great location!

Home is located in a quiet, residential area close enough to walk to Universal Studios and the train station. It is an older home with plenty of character but in need of some upgrades. I believe the home was built in 1951 and could still have the original stove which put out a great amount of heat due to the 6 or more pilot lights. At first we thought the oven was on!

Bedding and beds were comfortable but would be nice if the two guest bedrooms had TV. One guest bedroom did not have a ceiling fan which may sound weird that I even bring it up but I thought worth mentioning.

Cleanliness factor was just average. This house would be challenging to anyone with a disability as there are steep stairs from the garage into the house.

Management staff for the house were great and just a text away answering any questions I had regarding house and area.

Great location, very close to Universal Studios

Nice neighborhood, great house, beautifully landscaped pool and hot tub area. Met by Aime when we arrived and were given the tour. We were in town for a wedding with multiple generations of family staying at the house. Beautiful master suite upstairs with a balcony overlooking the pool, nice kitchen, overall a great place to stay while in town. Nice large newer washer/dryer. There were some areas that needed updating: work out room needs help, treadmill is quite worn, frayed on the edges of the belt and when operating was very loud, seems like it needed some maintenance at the very least, we were told that the stationary bike didn't work which pretty much just left the free weights. Pool is smaller than I expected and complicated to operate, at bare minimum there should be some lighting near the controls and pumps. It was super difficult to see anything in that area of the back yard to get the pool turned on and off after dark. It would be really nice to have an updated control panel mounted on the house that would be more automatic. Closet space downstairs is cluttered and didn't leave much space for hanging clothes. Grandparents would have loved having a couple of nice recliners (most all of the furniture was very soft and low to the floor so it was difficult for them to get out of once they were in). Overall a good stay and very nice host.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very insightful review. We are glad you enjoyed the house. I am sorry that treadmill wasnt working as well as it should. I replaced the bellt a few years ago and they said it was good for at least 5-6 years depending on use. I guess it's been getting used more than we thought. Will make sure that that the belt and bike get serviced. I'm not sure about closet, will review with Jason and Amie. Yes, furniture is low and made for lounging which seems to be what alot guests desire, but will see if we can add a lounge chair in the future. Yes the pool is small, I thought it outlined that in the description that it is more of a hot pool- more for relaxing and not laps. Will check that out. Anyway hope you enjoyed and look forward to seeing you again. Best, Phillip
