About Nona Morlan
I have lived on this property since early 1980's. I lived and trained in the Jackson, Mississippi area. I graduated a program and wanted to move away from home and parents, so after visiting some friends in this area, I decided it was the place for me. I met and married my husband and we lived in the cottage for 15+ years. We did some remodels, to move in and take care of the aunt that lived in the primary home on the property. This wonderful woman passed away in 1997 leaving the properties to my husband and me. My husband passed away in 2001. For many years a friend stayed in the cottage, keeping with the beach living. Hurricane Katrina came and a lot of things changed. I was blessed that there was minimal damage to my home and the cottage. The bluff, that my property is located on is one of the highest points between Apalachicola Bay, Florida and Galveston Bay, Texas. I never believed that fact prior to Hurricane Katrina, but have since become a confirmed believer. For years, the cottage was just used when friends or family came to visit. I am now a retired medical professional and have decided to try sharing my beautiful beach way of life with others.
Why Nona Morlan chose Bay Saint Louis
One day, as I was looking out the kitchen window of the cottage, towards the back wall of the primary dwelling, I realized, I had seen this home and all the landscaping before. I had dreamed of this place many times since I was a young girl. Deja' Vu ...well I believe. I had such a feeling of peace. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know, at this time in my life, I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
What makes this Cottage unique
The town and all the interesting activities are wonderful. There has been an increase in arts, shopping, and fun things to do but the thing that draws me to this area the most is...the PEOPLE. They are the friendliest I have ever run into. I have made so many friends over the years. Friends and family that come to visit have made the same discovery. People smile or speak to you as you walk down the street. Join us in 'A Place Apart'.

Great location. Wonderful owner.
Clean, bright, and well-equipped!
Our stay over Thanksgiving week was flawless. Nona stayed up for our 1AM arrival and showed us the basics we needed to know. Short and sweet, and then we went right to bed--which was a comfortable experience for each of us.
It was immediately obvious that the owners make cleanliness a priority. My husband and I with two of our adult children were quite comfortable and managed just fine with one bathroom and our son sleeping on the fold-out couch.
Although the weather didn't draw us to the beach very often, we did enjoy a couple of walks along the bay and through the quaint downtown area. There is a nice selection of restaurants and shops withing a couple of blocks.
Nona was readily available for any questions or suggestions, giving us a local's perspective on things nearby. We'll certainly be back whenever our plans bring us to the area!
The Perfect Bayside Retreat!
My family and I spent the entire summer at "Life's a beach" cottage, and the house and location were perfect for us (my kids are 3 and 4 yrs old). It's ideally located with a 5 minute walk to the center of downtown BSL (boutiques, frozen yogurt, great restaurants, festivals), but not so close where the foot traffic from downtown visitors becomes an annoyance. The house appears small from the exterior picture, but it's much bigger on the inside (especially the master bedroom). The owner is wonderful, providing you with plenty of helpful information about the BSL area and upcoming events, and she's always easy to reach with any questions. This cottage is perfect for a memorable summer or a relaxing weekend get-away. We'll be back!
Thank you and hope to see you again....
Pirate Fest Celebration
I've stayed quite a few times & its always very clean & comfortable. I look forward to my return visits. This was a great weekend as the pirate fest was the theme of the celebration. It was even more fun than Second Saturday's!
Lynn, so glad you enjoyed your weekend! We hope to see y'all again, real soon!
Relaxing beach bacation
Nona and Kevin were very gracious hosts. We loved the cottage and the location was excellent. Hope to return soon.
We look forward to seeing you again. Thank you!!
Such a wonderful littl cottage. We loved our stay here.
The boys and I were amazed at how awesome this little cottage is. It's not our first beach cottage rental but it is the absolute best one ever. It was clean. So very very clean! Several times we have arrived to a rental only to fine we had to clean it before we even got to unpack. But not this one. It was ready to go when we go there and it had all the basic supplies we needed to keep it clean while we were there. The kitchen is amazing as well. I never knew such a tiny kitchen could be so functional and it was very well stocked with everything - or everything we needed - and more to make meal prep an ease. We travel with kitchen supplies whenever we rent a place and it was so nice to be able to leave them in the car the week we were there. As for Bay St. Louis, it is one of our favorite places to visits and we have been coming down this way for years. There were so many restaurants within walking distance of the cottage that if I had been traveling with a more gastronomically adventurous crew, we would have eaten out every night. Alas, I was with two teenage boys and year old lab, so we only ate out once though we visited the nearby bakery several times. The beach is so close that it took our pokiest walker only two minutes to get there. The boys had such a good time on it, we scrapped all our other sightseeing plans and just stayed in town the whole time we were there. The dog enjoyed it as well. She walked on the beach and all around the downtown area. Even our late night/early morning walks were pleasant because the street lighting in that area is phenomenal. I didn't even need the flashlight we normally walk with. The owners of the cottage are fantastic as well. They were easy to contact, quick to respond, and had a great stock of information on area sightseeing and local restaurants in the cottage. We loved our stay there.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the cottage. We try to provide the items we look for when away from home. We want our guests to feel like they are home away from home....We look forward to seeing you and your family again.
'Life's A Beach' Cottage is walking distance to many restaurants, shops and churches and only a short drive to local casinos, golfing, tennis, boating, bike trails antique shopping, swimming, and fishing. There are many festivals and fun things to keep you occupied during your visit. Second Saturday (the Second Saturday of each month) is always a blast with downtown streets blocked off to accommodate bands, various entertainment and vendors set up to market their local art or products. Bay St. Louis was named one of the top ten small beach towns in the country, in 'THE BEST LITTLE BEACH TOWNS' in Coastal Living Magazine, September 2010 and also one of Budget Travel's 'Coolest Small Towns', for 2013. There is an app you can download to your smart phone to help you explore Old Town. Come see us, you can stay busy or do absolutely nothing.
